On a 2 Ghz Intel Duo, Radeon X1600 256mb, 1 gig computer, how much would an extra gig of ram (2 total) actually improve performance in video games?

It would be worth the 40 dollars, lets put it that way.

Framerate and loading times will improve vastly.

Also, your computer can run more programs simultaneously than before.

Windows XP with all the service packs, security updates and stuff easts up between 300-400MB on its own, meaning that if you have one gig you only have a maximum of ~66% of that gig available at any given time. That second gig? Every byte of it goes toward whatever you're running on top of Windows.

    Definitely worth it.
