I'm curious, how is Smash Boards reacting to the level editor? I imagine they really have some creative people, but some part of me is afraid they wiped the sweat from their brows and said "Whew, at least we know Final Destination's in one way or another"

I certainly did. I like Final Destination.
My fear is that that was the entirety of their reaction.
I like Final Destination. Wouldn't want to play every match there or anything, but in an almost ironic way, it's a change of pace from the other stages.
Also, I would be totally down with a Sarasaland stage, but only if it was enhanced, not in the style of the GB game. Pictochat and maybe Game & Watch would have that niche filled for me.
And Mr. L as a Luigi skin is a must.

Damnit you guys, pick a better placeholder next time you remove something's name. I thought you were saying Megaman X would be in Super Mario Galaxy.

When I play 1v1 matches, the favorite stages are always Final Destination, Battlefield, Hyrule Temple, Great Bay, Fountain of Dreams and Dream Land 64.
We usually just hit random but when we do select a stage it's usually one of those.
3 or 4p matches, someone always wants to pick the crazy ones.

I just checked. It looks like they've had a "Create a Stage" thread for a long time now, with lots of people sharing their ideas for stages. So, obviously they are interested in making new stages.

You should post your stage editor there and see what they do with it so we can laugh at them.
It would be awesome to make a level that is like a load screen,
Can you elaborate?
Also if the Starcraft community is any indication, we'll probably see a lot of fan made levels that will be used in tournaments that have been tweaked specifically for even balanced matches for all characters. SC tourneys almost all exclusively use maps created in the map editor, I imagine Brawl will be pretty similar. With the SD card support it'd be incredibly easy to implement too.

I wonder what the odds are that you are singlehandedly forcing Sakurai to make the pieces rotatable when he wasn't originally planning on allowing that.

You know what mntorankusu has to do now right? He has to add the old school Mega Man boss door in there.

If Sakurai isn't planning to make them rotatable then he's a dork.
So I started thinking about which characters were likely to be announced for Brawl, and I started wondering what the odds were on the ones we’ve been speculating about. So, because I wanted to do something at work today besides work, I put together a list, and I was curious what you guys might think of my guesses.
Keep in mind, this is all just purely subjective speculation. I’ve included reasons both for and against why a character might show up, and I’ve separated Japanese third-parties from “Western” third-parties because as of yet there’s no indication that US and European third-parties are involved. Anyways, let me know what you think:
Returning cast:
Captain Falcon - 1:20
Smash Dojo has an F-Zero icon, and he’s the series’ main character. Also, not only was he in both of the first two SSB games, but he was one of the more popular characters. His presence in the game is damn near certain.
Jigglypuff - 1:5
S/he is in the first two SSB games and a popular character.
Ness - 1:3
He’s in the first two SSB games and a popular character. The only thing going against him is the presence of Lucas, who may be in the game to replace Ness.
Luigi - 1:3
He’s in the first two SSB games. He’s also one of Nintendo’s best-known characters. The only thing going against him is that Sakurai supposedly said the game won’t have any “clone” characters, and Luigi was very similar to Mario. But it’s hard to say just how true all these “Sakurai said” statements are, and perhaps he’ll be back with a Luigi’s Mansion-influenced moveset.
Sheik - 1:2
One of SSBM’s more popular characters. The only thing going against Sheik is the fact that SSBB is using Zelda’s Twilight Princess model, and Sheik has no Twilight Princess counterpart. Also, in talking about Zelda, Sakurai and the Smash Dojo have been determined to avoid any mention of or allusion to Sheik.
Mr. Game & Watch - 1:1
Going by the “alphabetized” theory regarding the Smash Dojo icons, Game & Watch fits nicely in the slot between Fire Emblem and Ice Climbers. However, Sakurai supposedly said he wasn’t returning, although it’s hard to say just how true all these “Sakurai said” statements are.
Gannondorf - 1:1
The character designer with the Zelda series was supposedly asked to come up with a revised Gannondorf model for the game. However, Sakurai supposedly said the game won’t have any “clone” characters, and Gannondorf was unquestionably a clone of Captain Falcon (who’s far more likely to be in the game). But it’s hard to say just how true all these “Sakurai said” statements are.
Marth - 2:1
There’s really no reason I can think of for him to be taken out of the series.
Roy - 3:1
Was a popular character in SSBM, but he was also a “clone” of Marth (or vice versa, who knows), and many regarded him as a “cheap” character. If he does make it into the game, he may be nerfed.
Young Link/Wind Waker Link - 4:1
Sakurai supposedly said Young Link wouldn’t be coming back, but it’s hard to say just how true all these “Sakurai said” statements are. It may be that he’ll be replaced with a cel-shaded Wind Waker-style Link.
Mewtwo - 4:1
Was considered a lower-tier character by tournament players. However, aside from that, I can’t think of any reason they’d get rid of him.
Falco - 5:1
Sakurai supposedly said the game won’t have any “clone” characters, and Falco was unquestionably a clone of Fox. But it’s hard to say just how true all these “Sakurai said” statements are.
Dr. Mario - 5:1
Sakurai supposedly said the game won’t have any “clone” characters, and Dr. Mario was unquestionably a clone of Mario. But it’s hard to say just how true all these “Sakurai said” statements are.
Pichu - 10:1
Pichu was one of the weakest characters in SSBM, and many consider him a “joke” character. Also, Sakurai supposedly said the game won’t have any “clone” characters, and Pichu was unquestionably a clone of Pikachu. But it’s hard to say just how true all these “Sakurai said” statements are.
Nintendo newcomers:
Animal Crossing Resident - 3:1
Supposedly there was an interview with one of Animal Crossing’s producers (or someone along those lines) who said that the player character from Animal Crossing would be in the game. What’s more, the presence of an Animal Crossing stage seems to hint heavily that someone from the series will be in Brawl.
Mii - 3:1
Considering that SSBB makes use of just about every other non-motion-sensing feature the Wii has, it would seem like an oversight if the game didn’t have Miis as well. They may make it into the game as a custom fighter, an alternate to the polygon/wireframe fighters, or may also be combined with the Animal Crossing Resident character.
Captain Olimar - 10:1
Pikmin is one of Nintendo’s most significant series not represented in Brawl. Heck, if Animal Crossing made it in, Pikmin seems like a natural choice. And of course, Capt. Olimar is the series’ main character.
Waluigi - 10:1
One of the more recognizable characters in the Mario universe, and if the whole “Sakurai said no clones” thing turns out to be BS, Waluigi would make a natural choice for a Wario clone.
Baby Bowser - 10:1
One of the main villains in the Mario universe, as well as the primary villain of the Yoshi series. Also, if the whole “Sakurai said no clones” thing turns out to be BS, Baby Bowser would make a natural choice for a Bowser clone.
Baby Mario (& Luigi) - 10:1
One of the increasingly prominent characters in Mario-universe games like Mario Kart and Mario Tennis. Also one of the primary characters in the Yoshi universe
Ridley - 15:1
One of the primary antagonists in the Metroid series (second only to Mother Brain, who would be pretty much impossible to translate into Smash Bros.). The appearance of Ridley in the SSBM opening cinema seemed suggestive that he’d be in that game, so many are hoping that it’s a good indication he might make it into Brawl. Plus, as an added bonus, his theme is already in the game.
Andy, Sami, Max or Nell - 20:1
The main characters in the Advance Wars series (or just “Wars”, if you prefer). The main reason to suspect they’re not here is that Advance Wars soldiers/tanks are already in SSBB as assist trophies.
9-Volt - 20:1
In my opinion, the most notable character in the Wario Ware supporting cast, and one that opens up a lot of possibilities when you consider a moveset consisting of attacks using stuff from obscure Nintendo games. The main thing going against him is that, like all of Wario Ware’s supporting cast, they’re all relatively minor characters that haven’t been carried over to other games.
Wolf Link - 20:1
The switch of Link and Zelda to Twilight Princess variants has raised the possibility that Young Link has been replaced with Wolf Link. However, given that Link himself doesn’t transform into him, it kinda’ makes it seem a bit less likely.
Dixie Kong - 25:1
She’s nearly as well-liked as Diddy. However, she’s only in DKC2 and DKC3, and the fact that she’s not in the “Donkey Kong and Diddy chase after Bowser” video seems to imply she’s not in the game.
King K. Rool - 25:1
The main antagonist in the DKC games. However, he doesn’t have quite the level of style and personality as, sayyy, Bowser, and he isn’t in the “Donkey Kong and Diddy chase after Bowser” video, which seems to imply he’s not in the game.
Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan Squad - 30:1
Everyone loves these guys! Unfortunately, the way that each series is exclusive to either Japan or to everywhere else makes this unlikely, and they really seem better-suited for an assist trophy anyways.
Stafi - 30:1
The star of one of Nintendo’s long-running Japanese series. However, he’s never made it to the US, and it’s hard to imagine a moveset for him.
Midna - 35:1
Popular choice. Not sure how likely she is, though.
Tingle - 40:1
One of the regular characters in the Zelda series. He even has his own game in Japan!
Toad - 50:1
On the one hand, he’s well-liked by fans from the 8-bit era. On the other, a Toad servant person is already featured as a cameo in one of Peach’s moves.
Tom Nook - 50:1
Probably the most well-known character in the Animal Crossing series. However, he can already be seen in the Smashville stage, which means they’d have to swap him out or something when he fights.
Skull Kid - 50:1
People have tossed this name out there, but I doubt it. He was in one game, and it was two generations ago.
Geno - 50:1
People have tossed this name out there, but I doubt it. He was in one game that Nintendo themselves didn’t make (Squaresoft did), and it was a looooooong time ago.
Boshi - 50:1
Like Geno, people have tossed this name out there, but I doubt it. He was in one game that Nintendo themselves didn’t make (Squaresoft did), and it was a looooooong time ago.
Third-Party Newcomers (Japanese):
Bomberman - 5:1
Hudson has long been one of Nintendo’s closest third-parties (for one thing, they’re behind the Mario Party games), and Bomberman is probably their most well-known mascot. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that he’s already co-starred with a Nintendo character in a previous game (Wario Blast), and appeared in another Smash Bros.-esque fighting game (Dream Mix World Fighters, which also incidentally had Solid Snake and Optimus Prime in its roster).
Ivy or Taki - 10:1
The way I see it, Nintendo lent Namco one of their characters for Soul Calibur II, so it seems only natural that Namco returns the favor. Ivy and Taki seemed ideal picks because they’re being highlighted in the Wii-exclusive Soul Calibur Legends. Besides, this game needs more hot ladies.
Mega Man (or X) - 10:1
A fan favorite to be a contender, and as he’s been one of Capcom’s most consistent characters on Nintendo platforms, he seems the most likely candidate to be in the game if Capcom’s lending a character to be in it. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s been in two fighting game series already. In addition, his series name (Rockman) fits nicely in the empty space between ("Parutena no Kagami", i.e. Kid Icarus) and (Sonic the Hedgehog), if the whole alphabetization thing isn’t just a load of crap.
Pac-Man -15:1
Well, if Namco has a character in the game, their mascot would seem the most obvious choice. The only issue I see here is I have trouble thinking of a moveset for the guy (he may have boxing gloves, but every move I can think of him doing involves him biting or headbutting someone).
One of the Belmonts - 15:1
If third-parties aren’t just being represented by one character, a Belmont seems a natural choice for a second character from Konami. As for which, who knows? Soma, Richter and Simon would be my guesses for most likely bets, though.
Leon Kennedy - 15:1
Leon makes about as much sense in this game as Snake, although he’s obviously not nearly as popular. Still, he starred in one of the best GameCube games late in the Cube’s life, and one of the few decent third-party contributions for the Cube.
Ryu (Street Fighter) - 20:1
Well, if Capcom is contributing characters, and if they’re actually putting in more than one, Ryu seems a good bet, being the star of Capcom’s primary fighting game series.
Phoenix Wright - 20:1
Popular choice, but not exactly one that makes a lot of sense. His series name fits nicely in the empty space between ("Parutena no Kagami", i.e. Kid Icarus) and (Sonic the Hedgehog), if the whole alphabetization thing isn’t just a load of crap.
Chun Li - 25:1
Only if this game has a character roster as big as Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
Alucard - 30:1
Another possible Konami character but probably not too likely.
Knuckles - 35:1
If Tails is an assist trophy, this seems doubtful.
Bionic Commando - 40:1
Might be a nice way for Capcom to promote the new game, but don’t get your hopes up.
Third-Party Newcomers (Western)
Rayman - 15:1
If Nintendo brings any third-party characters from the Western world into the game, Rayman seems the most obvious choice, being an Ubi mascot character as well as the star of one of the Wii’s best-selling third-party titles. In addition, his series name fits nicely in the empty space between ("Parutena no Kagami", i.e. Kid Icarus) and (Sonic the Hedgehog), if the whole alphabetization thing isn’t just a load of crap.
Crash Bandicoot - 20:1
I can picture Crash being in the game if some someone working on the game thought, “Hey, wouldn’t it be a kick if we could make the game with Mario, Sonic and Crash fighting each other? That would be a total trip!”
Banjo-Kazooie - 25:1
Well, Rare still makes games for Nintendo platforms, including a Banjo-Kazooie game back on the GBA. Plus, it would benefit them to revive the characters in players’ consciousness in time for the upcoming 360 game’s release. On the other hand, it seems doubtful that Microsoft would allow it.
Master Chief - 100:1
Don’t get your hopes up.
What do you think? Are there any likely candidates I’ve missed, or anything I’ve said that you disagree with?

I think coming up with a moveset for Midna would actually be really simple. She already attacks with that giant hand/hiar, extrudes a field of darkness, and teleports stuff; as well as having a really really obvious final smash.

Otherwise, not bad at all.
Hmm... good point. I'll be sure to edit my post as people make suggestions like this.
It took me a little bit to understand what was going on here. I was thinking, "Why the hell are the elevator platforms in such a crappy place?" Go go brain speed.

I thought it would be cool to have a stage that only had an opening at the bottom, with nooks and crannies to fight in on the sides, and I accidentally came up with this:

I'd say that the Advance Wars COs are slightly less likely than you said if only because it looks like I.S. is killing them all off in the next game.
Also I didn't think of Rayman but if they're considering letting gaijin companies put somebody in he really is a likely choice. Fits in thematically, too (although a lack of that sure didn't stop Snake).
You know what I now realize I wish for most in the world? For Sakurai to hire the guy who voices Dr. Wierd to make voice recordings of all the updates. It would be perfect.
Uh, I believe Mewtwo will be removed because Mewtwo sucks.
That's a logic deduction right? If anything, I believe Pokemon Trainer is meant to fill in the gap of a extra pokemon character that isn't a Pokemon Character (yes that sounded weird.)

I certainly did. I like Final Destination.
My fear is that that was the entirety of their reaction.
Also, I would be totally down with a Sarasaland stage, but only if it was enhanced, not in the style of the GB game. Pictochat and maybe Game & Watch would have that niche filled for me.
And Mr. L as a Luigi skin is a must.
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!
final destination with items on?
let me guess, you don't use fox either.
you're some kind of madman.
It's totally famous! They already know about it:

SNAPE KILLS GANONDORF
I wonder what the odds are that you are singlehandedly forcing Sakurai to make the pieces rotatable when he wasn't originally planning on allowing that.
You know what mntorankusu has to do now right? He has to add the old school Mega Man boss door in there.
:x
Virtual Console.
Edit - Okay one more.
Jigglypuff - 1:5
Ness - 1:3
Luigi - 1:3
Sheik - 1:2
Mr. Game & Watch - 1:1
Gannondorf - 1:1
Marth - 2:1
Roy - 3:1
Young Link/Wind Waker Link - 4:1
Mewtwo - 4:1
Falco - 5:1
Dr. Mario - 5:1
Pichu - 10:1
Nintendo newcomers:
Mii - 3:1
Captain Olimar - 10:1
Waluigi - 10:1
Baby Bowser - 10:1
Baby Mario (& Luigi) - 10:1
Ridley - 15:1
Andy, Sami, Max or Nell - 20:1
9-Volt - 20:1

Dixie Kong - 25:1
King K. Rool - 25:1

Geno - 50:1
Boshi - 50:1
Third-Party Newcomers (Japanese):
Ivy or Taki - 10:1
Mega Man (or X) - 10:1
Pac-Man -15:1
One of the Belmonts - 15:1

Knuckles - 35:1
Bionic Commando - 40:1
Third-Party Newcomers (Western)
Crash Bandicoot - 20:1
Banjo-Kazooie - 25:1
Master Chief - 100:1
What do you think? Are there any likely candidates I’ve missed, or anything I’ve said that you disagree with?
I think coming up with a moveset for Midna would actually be really simple. She already attacks with that giant hand/hiar, extrudes a field of darkness, and teleports stuff; as well as having a really really obvious final smash.
Otherwise, not bad at all.
Hmm... good point. I'll be sure to edit my post as people make suggestions like this.
Didn't quite turn out how I planned.
Origin: RollThatKatamari
Oh and if Sakurai DID say no clones, which I doubt, it could just mean that returning characters that were clones now play differently.
We could play Fox on Fox on Fawkes!
fixed.
elvish elvis.
Horribly Awesome.
I'd say that the Advance Wars COs are slightly less likely than you said if only because it looks like I.S. is killing them all off in the next game.

Seriously, did you even play as the two characters? They fight as similarally as Link and Marth!
Also, I find it humorous that you think Roy is the cheap one who may get nurfed.
That's a logic deduction right? If anything, I believe Pokemon Trainer is meant to fill in the gap of a extra pokemon character that isn't a Pokemon Character (yes that sounded weird.)
Didn't you hear? Mario has a Luigi outfit.
Luigi is gone. Dead. Change your avatar before they get it too.
I place 5$ bucks that Luigi gets a Mario outfit.
Just so we can have the same mindfuck team battles we had before.
You know you all did it. My friends and I certaintly did it. Green Team vs. Red Team. Green being of Marios and Red being of Luigis.
