There's another community I'm a gym leader of called the The Livejournal Pokemon League. I'm the leader of the Grass/Ground gym. Right now there's only me, my "apprentice," and four members. I was hoping to recruit more people.
The rules are:
-You must have a Livejournal.com account
-Sign up as a member of the Livejournal League
-Then, sign up as a member of my gym
There's a small gimmick though: Each gym is offering "Starter Pokemon." You have to have the evolutions of one of these starter pokemon on your team.
My starters are: Mudkip/Hippopotas/Gible/Bulbasaur/Shroomish/Tangela
If you pick a starter who is a Grass pokemon, then you have to have at least one ground pokemon on your team.
If you pick a starter who is a Ground pokemon, then you have to have at least one grass pokemon on your team.
I'd really appreciate it if you guys want to sign up and help me get more members. Don't worry about trainer cards, I'll make them for you.
Let me know if you're interested and thanks!!

I have badges, yes I do! I have badges, how about you?
I wouldn't mind being a gym leader in it since I started making my ideas for a double battle gym. mostly centered around normal type. If the pokemon all had to be one of the two types of the gym i'd probably have Normal/Bug. Although the rules seem kind of complex. So every pokemon on in the gym needs a move of the other type? im not sure i can pull that off with my team, and the starters thing is kinda confusing x_X
If you're a member though, the rule about movesets doesn't apply to you, it only applies to me, so don't worry about that.
I know the rule about starters is confusing, but this is the best example I can give:
Your team is 6 pokemon. Your 1st pokemon is the "Starter Pokemon". Let's say picked Mudkip as your starter. Then your second pokemon can be any Grass type pokemon. Then the other four can be anyone you want (except legends).
That's the only complex rule for members, everything else is standard (sleep clause/item clause/etc.)

Nah, I'm terrible. I only managed to sweep three out of eight gyms so far. The rest actually took me more than one try, with Kabuki's team being the most difficult thing I've ever had the fortune of battling repeatedly. And being beat that many times by a bug team tends to crush your ego, no matter how well planned and executed it is.
it's hard to beat a double battle team at their own game. and he has the kind of team that can just switch out to avoid a counter pick, and even counter pick you. besides, bug pokemon are beasty, it's one of the few types i'd hate to go up against

These are the situations where it's rather handy to bring in a Stealh Rocker
So my team has four member bred and mostly trained! So close. I'm looking forward to battling again.

My team so far appears to be the anti-bug.
The only pokemon who isn't supereffective is my Alakazam
Doubles does open you up to some nifty strategy though. For example, Fake Out + STAB lets you take out most speedy openers first turn before they can pull anything off, or prevents a first turn Forretress from explodin' all over your mans.
So who's trying to take over the ground gym again?
I was thinking about it. But I never formally challenged Green Lantern (the ground leader).
I'm surprised no one else has thrown their hat into the ring.
I'd like to understand this new rule a little better before I issue a challenge. c02y had to beat two different gyms with pokemon that are weak to those gyms in order to take the poison gym? I really don't think I could do it. Mainly because I only have about 9 ev trained pokemon. Obviously I would need to train 6 pokemon for a gym team, but then i'd also have to train a few pokemon to beat some gyms? I don't have enough interest in being a gym leader to do that.

Or, you could just make your ground team, and challenge Chen, Faust, and/or Whippy to a fight. Theoretically, being ground and having at least 4 mans weak to those elements, you should be fine.
I honestly don't see the point in this rule. If we have an inactive gym leader it really should be our preregative to see him replaced as soon as possible, and not have the tentative replacement have to jump through hoops. As of now it seems easier to take over an active gym (i.e., beat the current gym leader with your prospective gym team, neither team having a real elemental advantage over the other) than it is to take over an inactive one (beat two other gyms with guys who have advantages to yours O_o).

Hahaha, I didn't remember that Ground was weak to those types.
I'll be the best ground type trainer ever!

Not all of them have to be weak, just three of those. You also don't have to use the same Pokés you used for the challenge in your gym team.
My reasoning behind the rule is that I believe there should be some sort of challenge instead of giving it away without any kind of effort.
Also, if you want, I can lend you some of my Pokés.

Well, to be fair, Electric, Rock and Steel, wait... those aren't gyms.

Ok, so I am officially going to try and take the Ground gym.
Should I send a pm to Green Lantern saying so? I looked up his profile and he doesn't even have his gym team in his sig anymore, so I just assume he's done with the game.
How does this look for a ground team?
Hippowdon
Nidoqueen
Swampert
Flygon
Politoed
Lucario
I have the Hippowdon bred but everything else is going to take a little time. Despite Mario Galaxy, Fire Emblem and Zack&Wiki, tomorrow i'll start coming up with movesets, ev spreads, and etc.
Hopefully the team will be done within a week. Depends on how obsessive i'm going to be about IVs.
and if I do take the gym, i'd like this:http://screenshots.avatarspiritmedia.net/209/434.jpg to be the new symbol on the ground badge. I'll need to ask for someone to make that image for me. I tried to find a better picture of the symbol inside the square, but thats the best I could find.
For people who get the reference, Hippowdon will be called The Hippo and Nidoqueen will be Oma or Kyoshi.
Perhaps Swampert as Bumi? and Flygon as Toph. I don't know if those fit very well.
I guess Lucario could be The Avatar or just Aang. Hugh is the swamp monster guy, but that would fit Tangrowth more than Swampert.
I was thinking of going full on with the avatar theme. Gyarados as Oonagi, Golem as The Boulder. Maybe Marowak as Sokka. Claydol as Koh (the face stealer). But I decided that I shoulld focus more on the gym instead of the gimmick.
In my opinion, badges should be a generic representations of the gym, not symbols of existing franchises. But if everyone here agrees with Ink that we should have that badge design, we'll keep it.
I don't see why not. Still represents ground, even if it's a pre-existing symbol. Hell, the fighting gym is basically a Street Fighter theme, so whatever.
It's not like we can really afford to be choosy and impose unnecessary rules, what with the huge groundswell (pun!) of applicants and all.
I have pretty bitchin' Mudkipz if you want one, Ink. I did breed like 500 of those son of a bitches. Just say what stats matter you the most and I'll see if I can find one with 30/31 IVs.

I'm willing to compromise with the Chinese symbol for Earth
since it could still be considered a reference to Avatar.
Anything is better than the current badge.
I mean, what is that?
Chen, thats a really generous offer. Thank you. I'll get back to you about that tomorrow when I start planning things a little more.
Although, I think it'll just be a pretty standard Swampert. Physical attacker, high HP, nice Defenses.
Man, I got a very awesome Mudkip after just 6 of them. Do you do incest breeding? It speeds things up a lot.
Man, I don't know about you, but breeding starters is a pain in the rear end in my experience. There's only a 1/8 chance of a baby being female and you kind of need two good parents to pass down IVs in a somewhat consistent manner. I got lucky and hatched a female with 31 HP, 30 Attack and 31 Special Defense, but even if it passed down those IVs I still needed decent Defense and Special Attack since I wanted it to be a Mixpert.
So I bred and checked hundreds of eggs and got either shitty Attack/Special Attack or shitty Defense/Special Defense. When I got excellent ones it turned out to be Bold or Impish heh. So in the end I settled for that Impish one. It's kind of pathetic when I think back how much trouble I went through. so i herd u leik mudkipz m i rite?

Could I maybe get in on this offer? A mudkipz with bitchen IVs would be fantastic, and on my shopping list of things I need to trade for to complete my team.
I'd actually prefer to have a male with Stealth Rock and/or Roar and/or Avalanche on it (fuck this game and it's ridiculous one-shot TMs), but I'll take anything I can get really.
Well, the babies don't have Stealth Rock and Avalanche unfortunately, but the Impish Mudkip I'm using does have them, so I can probably breed one with a Ditto and hopefully pass down those sexy, sexy IVs. What nature would you like to have?

Does it matter? The everstone nature-passing thing doesn't work unless it's a guy (well, girl) from your own game.
Unless you're proposing that you do my breeding for me O_o. In that case, I'll take an Impish one, and thanks!
Also, I'm in Europe at the moment and the uni I'm studying abroad at absolutely forbids local wireless networks (seriously, if I try to make one on my Mac they'll just cut off my internet), so in order to do this we'll have to work out a time we can trade at a later date. I'll have to go to a coffee shop or something...
Ugh.. either I'm messing something up repeatedly, or Metalkid's calculator isn't liking my latest batch of baby Pokes. Probably I hit a button wrong somewhere.. anyway. Any chance I could get a quick IV battle?
Also, figures Pokecharms gets its Pokecard generator back up and running just as I'm in mid-Paint to make my own version instead. Oh well, my card shall be stylish!

I wanna go with an all bug team, and flygon isnt a bug. And again I should say how much I hate sleep attacks.
The Bug Gym is mine!

Seriously, the E4 shouldn't hog all the good types even when they are technically elite and therefore above us mere non-elites. We shouldn't have to stand for this crap. I suggest we bundle our forces and perform a coup d'état to overthrow their monopolistic practices.
Or, just get 8 badges and challenge them.
