Wow. I just played the demo, and I'm extremely impressed. I was really confused about the fighting system at first (and the main character looked really awkward holding the sword the way he does), but after a few minutes of messing around I got the hang of it.
If this isn't one of the games I get for Christmas, I'll be buying it Dec. 26th.
Hopefully I can ask a retarded question here. I'm just starting the game after hearing about the excellent new patch which decreases the loadtimes, and I have to speak to the Reverend for the main quest, yet he's never in his house when I go to it. Is there a specific time when he's there?

He doesn't hang out at his house, he hangs out in front of the chapel.

He's there at night, but during the day, you can find him in the front lawn of the church (the chapel next to his house.) He's usually bent over, praying next to the graves to the right of the door.
Im pretty stubborn when it comes to graphical settings, I have a 3 year old system and stuck the settings on medium anyway. The framerate wasnt perfect, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it looked, theres a lot of detail in some of the faces. My brother just spent a small fortune on a new rig, Ive been waiting to get stuck into the game for that reason, now really looking forward to some silky smooth combat

Combat has been great for me except on Boss Battles. Pretty much every boss has a non-needed super special effect that is swirling around them or the combat area that just chugs the shit out of my machine. Kind of annoying.

So AA is greyed out in the options menu for me. Does anybody have any idea why this might be when I have a fairly top end DX10 Vista setup?
Thanks for that, now for another question: What are "places of power" for? I've encountered several and recieved no explanation as to what they are or what the ritual of magic does. There's even a talent to let you use them more which I didn't take because I didn't know what it was for.

They power up your magic, and I dont know for sure, but you may be able to use them for

So far as I know all it does is give you a power advantage dependent on what type of place it is.
Also, I'm thinking of giving this game another shot. After I got a little ways in I just couldn't take not checking out houses anymore. I'll reinstall and see how much difference there is. Hopefully lots
There's a huge difference when going in and out of houses now. I also believe that the game doesn't autosave quite as often, which helps. It usually autosaves when I walk into Important House Where You Might Die or Screw Something Up, but it doesn't usually autosave when you walk into Generic Shack B.
Edit: Awful top of page, sorry! Hmm. So, that Witcher guy. He sure gets a lot of tail. At least mine does. I can't help it! It's like Pokemon!

Load times were never really a problem for me, but the faster the better. My biggest complaint was the fact that you can't organize your stash (as far as I know). Has this been addressed?
I'm still not really clear on what place of power actually do, but, meh.
I'd just like to say that this game is actually really awesome and I don't think it's recieved nearly enough spotlight. All it's recieved on PA (comic wise) is jokes about its name, for crying out loud. EB doesn't even keep The Witcher on the shelves visibly either, you have to ask them to bring it out. (At least, at the 3 EBs I've checked out in the past month)

Some later talents in the Intelligence tree I believe let you do more rituals at places of power giving you temporary buffs.
And I agree. I am shocked this game isn't the talk of the town everywhere. That's the first RPG in a long time I absolutely demolished since getting of World Of Warcrack.
I only played the demo, and never heard of sex cards. Oh well. If I get the censored version, I can deal with it. Although that redhead was pretty damn hot... :winky:

Shani definately is. Triss, not so much. I still haven't collected the Shani card yet, unfortunately.
As a sidenote, what do people think of the 'card' system? While it's somewhat nifty, I also feel like it's promoting the 'women as sexual objects' ideal, based purely on my own thoughts of "I wonder when I can unlock the option to collect her sexcard!" whenever I meet a new female character.

I view the cards you get for sexual relations as the logical progression of Pokemon. I mean the gotta catch 'em all aspect, not the stuff them in cramped quarters with no light or food until you're ready to make them fight for trophies part.
A lot of non-Tolkien fantasy is meant to have this kind of blatant debauchery though. Along with the going out with a sword to create a bloodbath and binge drinking on a daily basis aspects, fantasy worlds being more sensual than the modern world is a staple of this kind of setting. People may not be dressed as skimpily as in, say, Conan but there's still an undercurrent of less restrained violence, partying, and sex.
Does anyone have a problem with it crashing to desktop? I'm starting to think I've got some graphical option on that causes the game to run like a nightmare. I can never play for more than a half hour before it boots me.

The AI really sucks at dice poker. You can make some easy money by them. They may have a better hand, occasionally, but they'll throw it away in the re-roll every time.

I've noticed that. The computer can't tell what numbers you have in your pairs, it just sees pairs and assumes that you have a better hand if they're otherwise equal. On the other hand, some gamblers seem to have really good "luck" overall.

Nice sig. I just went through a entire 5-season re-watching.
To include something on topic, the 1up Yours podcast nickname for The Witcher is Witch Fucker 2.
Also...Witcher Christmas Card
little bit of boob in it if you're worried about that.

Yep, Vir from season 1... about something that happens in season 4.

From what I understand, witchers are immune to diseases.
It does call to question whether or not they can be carriers though

The sex cards have nudity in the uncensored version. In the U.S./Canada release, they have somewhat shoddily-drawn-on clothes.
Has anyone noticed that the English VA for "Gramps" in Chapter 2 sounds like Jon Stewart's George W. Bush impression? Kinda chilling...
Triss looks more like a cheap whore than anything else.

Sounds like you'd love Ireland
Oh God... That'd be my heaven. I've met two Irish girls in my life... Both of them redheads... And both extremely hot to me.
I can't explain my fixation on that.
