Apparently my CD key is inside my manual but I've looked through it and it's simply not in there? Where else could it be?
The registration process on the site says it's in the manual's last page cover (on the inside I assumed) but I can't find it anywhere in the book.
If your talking about the old manual and live especially in Canada you didn't get the key, you have to contact Atari and they'll send you a fresh new one. Only took me two hours to get mine, I posted a link two or three pages back.
I am fairly far in the 1st chapter, and so far I am absolutely amazed by this game. The art direction, graphics, voice acting and music, they are all top notch. And the actual story so far is really engrossing, and even tho I have some suspicions about the beasts nature, this game is certainly going in an interesting direction.
I do have one pet peeve... how can I turn off the head/camera bob during running? It is giving me a headache.
Also, is blocking automatic in this game (as I keep seeing word parry pop-up once in a while at random intervals) and is dodging the only way of active damage mitigation?
Also a question concerning one of the quests in Chapter 1 :
After slaying the plant creatures in Orin's garden (and being totally wasted) I have noticed that the dog is actively looking/guarding something. Didn't get any follow up options, so is there something I need to do to get to the bottom of this, or will this mystery be solved in due time along the main quest line?
not sure on the camera bob.. and yeah blocking is automatic.
and
dont worry about that dog, it will reveal itself to you later but not in the way you think, without spoiling too much basically something will happen later involving the people youve been dealing with, and if your smart enough to think about all the plot and information youve been given it will hit you do what the dog was guarding, but thats it and thats all its supposed to be, come back when youve finished chapter 1 if you cant figure how what hes guarding and ill explain it in detail.
I've done chapter one and I still don't get it. Enlighten me, please?
First of all, mind the following entry in the monster section of the journal:
Echinopsae grow in places where crimes have been committed or on the graves of the victims of such crimes.
Remember how the beast was summoned by people being general pieces of human shit? Mikul raped his girlfriend (with a bunch of salamanders, IIRC), Haren was both trading with and turning in squirrels, as well as selling weapons to the salamanders, and the reverend was selling kids to them. Abigail was in on all of it, let it/made it happen, profited on it, then bitched about them being evil.
Odo?
Killed his brother in his sleep.
Yeah he killed his brother and buried him in the yard thus the dog found his bones and is hording them
Also,
cant remember where it says this (think it was a dev quote actually) but the dog is actually Odo's brother's, thus he's guarding his old masters bones, since both the brother was a good guy he doesn't raise as some monster and the dog is a good loyal dog the beast doesn't turn him into a bargest like the rest of them

oooh interesting, that makes sense Deaderinred, I didn't put that together on why the dog just stayed a dog.
Glad someone mentioned that the language pack and the patch should be on the same directory a few pages ago, that whole "you need the patch installed to install the language pack" and "you need the language pack installed to install the patch" was messing with my head.
Of course, now that's it's updating, it tells me "this may take up to two hours". Now, I'm no programmer, but seriously - what the hell. Can't it just, you know, overwrite the existing files?
Playing the EE alongside Clear Sky, and I can't tell if this is an oversight or if I'm just missing something, regarding Leuvaarden's quest in the outskirts:
Geralt claims to recognize the King of the Wild Hunt as the one who 'chased' him - I can only assume he means during the intro - but this is never really clarified. The journal indicates that the Wild Hunt appeared again; does anybody know if there's an earlier reference to it?
I know some of the plot elements are kind of subtle, but I honestly can't remember hearing anything about it earlier.

Yeah I was like wtf? at that part too. They clearly don't say what prior to that. I think it's just one of those lore things you are just supposed to know.

triss and/or lambet mention the wild hunt/magic storm was out when they found geralt, and it was the wild hunt that was chasing him in the intro.. its generally assumed that is what he was referring to, some also take it as a reference to the wild hunts appearance in the books.

Interesting. I'll have to pay more attention during the prologue, and I didn't even think about a connection to the books. Thanks.
Incidentally, it is beyond cool that they packed in the soundtrack and bonus music with the free downloads. Hell, Sentinels of Brokilon makes the two-hour wait worthwhile all by itself.
Is the soundtrack saved somewhere we can listen to it outside of the game? That's some pretty music.
I restarted this game since the EE came out. I officially love the hell out of it. The sometimes rough translations were my primary gripe, it's pretty much why I stopped playing. I can't tell if the EE fixed all kinds of stuff, or I'm just in a more RPG mood, but I am absolutely enamored with this game now.

Question regarding the captain of the guard in Vizima (endish of game spoilers):
Has anyone ever killed him instead of letting him live? I was wondering how that affects your relations with Carmen later on. The mutagen you can make out of his skin sounded pretty useful.
I killed him on my playthrough. The mutagen is pretty sweet, but Carmen refuses to talk to you at all for the rest of the game.

So I'm playing through the game for the first time after holding off on playing my import copy for 8 months and I'm at a bit of a loss as to what's a good way to upgrade my character. I am about an hour into Chapter 1 after the Prologue and the upgrade panel is a bit bewildering. Any tips on what a good upgrade path to follow is?

When it comes to upgrading Geralt's abilities, I just pick whatever sounds interesting or useful. That said, I would really like to hear more about how other people do it. Are there any really good "builds" to be squeezed from the system?
Did Canada get the EE? I don't see either version of The Witcher listed on the Canadian Future Shop or Best Buy sites, and when I went to EB last night they didn't even have it listed in their computer.
I got at least three weeks of play out of it. Admittedly, part of it was because Chapter 2 is kind of a mess storywise and I wandered around a lot looking for what to do next, but it's not a short game.
Attributes: Strength > Dexterity > Endurance. I ignored intelligence except for a few key upgrades.
I ignored magic spells except for aard and the fire one
I maxed out both group style as soon as I could and put points in the rest of the styles later.
Because of the bronze - silver - gold system, leveling up is a lot more flexible and forgiving. My build murdered people and monsters pretty well but for ghosts I had to use fire.
Try to prioritize skills that are active all the time (10% to parry over extra dodge when drunk). Upgrade your base stats (strength, dexterity, etc) over the rest since they usually affect all attacks. You won't get a silver sword till chapter two so no reason to upgrade that section till you get one so concentrate on steel sword. When upgrading weapon techniques I distributed points evenly between the three styles of each weapon.
Finally the only two signs you'll really need are Aard and Igni. Having Aard at a level where you can knock down or stun helps immensely with the final boss of chapter 1.
I like going a little heavier on the magic end of things, which I find strange considering I'm usually a melee player. I guess I like to take advantage of being a spellsword any opportunity I get.
I really like the increased endurance regeneration. If you get the silver talent and drink a tawny owl you can pretty much cast spells non-stop.
Also, the trip line in the group trees are fucking awesome. Get them.

Just was able to convince my boss to upgrade my work home PC for a new one (I got a Dell XPS 730) so I will finally be able to run that try this game.
So has anyone played the EE all the way through yet? THey haven't changed anything about the subtlety of the ending have they?

Aard is useful, no argument there, but I do love setting fire to people with the Igni sign and might invest more in it this time around. The pain sign (can't remember the name) interests me as well. I reckon you can't go too wrong with pain and fire at your fingertips.
While playing through the first chapter, I noticed what looked like random attacks. A ghoul was out on the road late one evening and had killed a bunch of people. The road was covered in blood and body parts and survivors were running for the inn. I also saw lots of Bhargest remains near the guards, which suggested there had been a battle without Geralt being present. Are these random attacks something new in EE or just something I haven't noticed before?
I just wanted to thank everybody here for telling me to upgrade Aard. I hadn't done that in my playthrough before the EE, and it makes a world of difference. Because I upgraded it, I was able to kill the beast in one hit, and I loved it.

You don't have to worry much about your bronze talents. You will get enough to max out or come close to maxing out those. Getting herbalism fairly early will get you in the habit of having enough potions on hand so that would be something good to grab.

facing the Beast at level 7, or should I get a bit stronger? I'm playing on hard, and the fight itself isn't too bad until I get hit with pain, at which point I eat like ten hits in a row and just die. I guess I should mention I lacked the foresight to mix any new pots before triggering off the whole hideout thing and am only running on a Swallow and a whetstone for my blade. Any tips? (outside of maybe using some different pots, too?)
edit: I do have Aard high enough to stun...so more judicious use of that during the fight?
The part that is really trying my patience is in the swamp forest. There are these pink plants that rape you if you come close. I do 2 damage every time I hit one. Igni does something like 10-12 but I can only get two off before I have to start hacking away. It's really frustrating.

There are probably other places now that have it but the official polish site seems to not be as terrible as it was before.

Good good, that's a start, now go on?
How long would you say this game lasts?
