If, by chance, you are on XP x64, it's still completely normal as long as you ran the patch in compatibility mode for win95. If you didn't, punch yourself in the face and restart it. Maybe not in that order.
It worked and I actually played for about 30 minutes before going to bed last night. I had to turn the settings to low though because the videos were stuttering a lot. Good time so far, still in the tutorial.
I've heard you really can't go wrong in terms of developing your character so I'm thinking of becoming a pyro-maniac.
The tutorial stuttered for me as well, pre-EE, and post. After you get into the first chapter, the game seems to really balance, and even itself out.
So when are you able to bind those Runes into your Silver Sword? I have been carrying around a few for the last couple Chapters. Iam on Chapter IV at the moment.

Yes you really can't fail at building up your character since everything you can upgrade has a completely obvious and straight forward effect.

You can do it at any blacksmith, though you need at least three, and at least a thousand or so orens. Any possible combination of runes will show up for sale.

Ok, I wasn't thinking you would need 3. Thanks

I'll spoiler this just in case.
Don't waste the orens as you'll be getting the second best silver sword in the game. Provided you do everything the way the Lady of the Lake wants you to.

So I went into a crypt and a tutorial message popped up saying I either need cats eye or a torch to see in the dark. If I can't grab extra weapons without putting down another should I give up having an offhanded weapon like a dagger or hand ax for having a torch on hand at all times. Or how should I handle that?

Cat's Eye potions are far more useful when you jump into the darkness. Always have at least one on you and you should be golden.

So don't even worry about torches?
Personally I used to use torches, at least early on. I didn't want to drink too many potions and increase my toxicity level too much (Groovy effect for it through), limits my options for other things.

With a Cat potion in you, you don't really need a torch.
I got at least three weeks of play out of it. Admittedly, part of it was because Chapter 2 is kind of a mess storywise and I wandered around a lot looking for what to do next, but it's not a short game.
Let's say resident evil 4 was 8 alone in the dark was 10, what would this would be?
It's not. It's just an RPG with a slightly enhanced combat mechanic. The caves in this game are pitch black (for once, most game crypts and tombs seem to be far too bright for being underground and having no real light sources), but that can be solved with a simple potion or torch.
Also, assuming that your scale is from 1-10, Silent Hill would be around 349 on there.
Heck, RE4 isn't even close to as scare as the original games in the series.
Finally picked this up last night. A little bit into chapter 1. Really enjoying it so far, seems to be tons of secondary quests to do. I've been using the OTS camera which is very nice when traveling, but isn't always optimal for combat with groups. So, what camera have you guys been using OTS, Isometric, or a combination of the two?

I mainly stick with OTS. Isometric sometimes if I want to wander a large distance somewhere, iy's simpler to just mouse click in the relevant direction then.
If you hold the middle mouse button you can move the camera around in Close Isometric. I use this to zoom in nice and close and it's like OTS. Then when I get in combat i let go and it moves back away.

I switch between OTS and Close Isometric though.
Hmmm, I like this idea though it would take a bit to get used to holding middle mouse. Is it always point and click movement in Isometric or is there a way to use the KB OTS style movement with it?

The same keys will move Geralt in isometric view. They're relative to his facing though.
Is there any point in using the secondary weapons in this game (ax, dagger, etc.)?
I'm still only in Ch. 1 but they just feel so useless when put next to your swords (especially since you can't upgrade your skills with them).
For the most part they are fairly useless or situational depending on the special ability of the weapon. For instance, axes can break shields. Not that you'll really need to. Also, some instant kill animations use them, and group style once it's upgraded enough will make use of them.
So, are there any legit torrents for the EE patch? My crappy wireless Internet has the habit of disconnecting for a few seconds, and I would rather not download 98% of the file only to get Download failed, please try again.

At the end I had two of the strongest swords in game so I switched between them depending on the kind of opponents I was facing. Besides that: axes and shit give you some nice cash when traded.

Until you get the igni sign and the silver sword, having a torch as a secondary weapon to use against the plant monsters works really well. After that, they are pretty much holding space for crap to sell.
and group style once it's upgraded enough will make use of them.
Woah. Go into more detail? Group style was the style I didn't try to max out when I played the original (waiting on some hardware issues before getting the EE patch).

I think you quoted the wrong guy.. But yeah they are pretty useless except to look pretty and give you monies. Though it's nice to have a torch for light.

I've had attacks with group style, both silver and steel, that he pulls weapons from the offhand and uses them as part of long combos.
So it would seem Geralt and I have just learned a valuable life lesson about not touching magic stones in the middle of a monster ridden swap surrounded by dead bodies.

So your storage, like at inns, is that a magic access anywhere box like in other RPGs or Resident Evil where you can put your items in one and access them at another?

Yeah, all inns are magically linked ( end of act 1 spoiler)
Which is very good because the innkeeper gets offed in Act 1 near the end, so it would suck if all the stuff you had stored went poof
and group style once it's upgraded enough will make use of them.

That has given me all the reason I need to max group style.
Not that I was particularly planning against it before.
Anyway, my copy of the Witcher (UK edition) apparently didn't come with a CD key. I've heard that this was fairly common, who do I need to contact to get one?
Atari, I believe. Not sure through what avenue though.
So, I've only just started playing through the EE. I've seen some of the new animations in action, but all my cutscenes are strangely jerky, even though depth of field is disabled. It's not actually slowdown- it's strange, because the camera view will be panning over scenery or following a moving object like the cart in the opening or a walking person, but it'll suddenly stop for a split second, resulting in people walking on the spot (or a cart's wheels spinning without moving)- and it's really, really distracting. Any idea what's causing it?
Man, I just managed to pull of a simulatanous six-man decapitation with the steel group style against a gang of Salamandra thugs. I haven't even invested a single silver talent into any of the groupstyles :P
Maybe I should invest a few extra silver and gold points into the the group styles this time around?

One day Silent Hill...one day..
Some of the themes might be disturbing though. It's a relatively mature game.
You could always try the demo first and see how you feel about the game I suppose.
