Lucasarts and Bioware Corp. To Develop Ground-Breaking Interactive Entertainment Product
SAN FRANCISCO, CA and EDMONTON, CANADA — October 30, 2007 — LucasArts and BioWare Corp. today announced that they have entered into an agreement to create an interactive entertainment product. The product, details of which will be unveiled at a later date, will be developed and published by BioWare and LucasArts, and will push the boundaries of the gaming market by utilizing the strengths of both companies to deliver an innovative, high-quality experience.

“LucasArts has a deep commitment to developing compelling stories and characters for the unique medium of interactive entertainment, and we have been searching for a developer that shares this value. We found this in BioWare,” said Jim Ward, president of LucasArts. “Through our previous collaborations, we know that BioWare has an impressive ability to blend gripping stories with technological advancements, and we believe that our upcoming product will deliver an experience that will span the traditional boundaries of video game entertainment.”

“BioWare’s mission is to deliver the best story and character-driven games in the world, delivering powerful emotional experiences to our fans.” said Ray Muzyka, chief executive officer, BioWare Corp. Added Greg Zeschuk, president of BioWare Corp., “The collaboration with LucasArts allows us to combine our passion for creating high quality and innovative experiences with those of a company dedicated to bringing only the finest games to market.

So basically this makes LucasArts like EA, only much, much friendlier... Essentially I'm reading this as "So, LucasArts wants us to make the kick ass games, while they cover the printing costs... Better than EA..."

That's just a rumor. Totally unsubstantiated. Unconfirmed. Can't be proven.

Lucasarts does make games outside of the star wars franchise, you know. They do. Really.

I don't want a kotor mmo because it would almost destroy any hope for a kotor 3 and a mmo loosely based on the time period of the games would just basically be another generic star wars mmo

    and as we all know

I'd rather not see people who use a little reasoning get called shills, please. :P

Anyhow... LucasArts I think has a hit and miss kind of rep with their games (opinion). So whatever they do in this might hurt it. Oh well. Plenty of folks trust in Bioware.

I wouldn't rule out the Starwars MMO rumor just because it's a rumor. This gives it evidence of being true (but not 100% true).

They should get Obsidian to work on KOTOR3 while Bioware makes KOTOR Online. Then you release KOTOR 3 to hype up the mmo.

It better not be KOTOR 3 because if they do it, and it's not Obsidian, I will be pissed. Obsidian took it from generic to amazing. If it is, fuck Lucasarts, because they push it out the door on Obsidian, who set up an amazing sequel, then give it back to Bioware to fuck up again.

Note: I enjoyed the first KOTOR a lot, but the second's writing is a fuckload better because Avellone is god damn amazing.

I still don't get the love for KOTOR2. IMO, it was a sloppy, half-finished, mere shadow of its predecessor. While I commend them for trying to add more depth to the morale choices, I found it to be ultimately pointless.

BioWare is owned by EA. They are creatively independent, but EA gets to publish all their games. LucasArts would not let BioWare publish a Star Wars games. My guess is that it is probably the rumored Star Wars MMO. The reason BioWare and LucasArts are teaming up is because they've probably been working on this for over a year and they have a contract signed.

Just like how Microsoft still has publishing rights to Mass Effect and Sega still has publishing rights to the Sonic game Bioware is making.

Now, don't get me wrong, I never actually played Star Wars Galaxies, but from everything I hear, it blows. Having said that...

If it's a new Star Wars MMO, it's gonna be kinda hard to regain the respect of gamers, won't it? It was really big news when they did it the first time around. It was suppose to be THE MMO. I feel like the only slogan they can go under now is "Star Wars MMO: We're giving this one more shot. Maybe we didn't fuck up, hm? Give a try, will ya?"
