Ok, starting about 3 days ago, these odd, powdery white stains keep appearing in my bathroom sink. They kind of look like dried toothpaste. Thats the only way I cant describe it. They just sort of appear out of thin air in as little as 10 - 20 minutes. I have no fucking clue where they are coming from. The sink doesn't leak, the ceiling above is solid and isn't dripping or anything, and I know it's not my roommates because even when I'm here alone they show up.
Any ideas? Do I have ghosts? Are dangerous fumes leaking into my bathroom and reacting? Am I just a moron and it's something else completely obvious? Help me H&A.
Are you sure it isn't toothpaste? And, concordantly, when was the last time you washed your sink?
Positive. And I just cleaned it today. They came back.

It could just be calcium deposits from the sink mixed with whatever the hell is in the water, and also adding to the mix the fact you might have hard water (remember the old commercials.) I'm from the south (not that it should matter, but just as a reference to the water system) and I've had those spots in my sink since I can remember. It's not mold or anything, so don't worry about that. It's just some random (IE: I'm not a chemist) chemical reaction that causes it. Just clean the sink once a week and try not to let it get to you.
