Sooo...I have 5 external 5.25 slots and I'm only buying One DVD RW drive...

So, short of buying a bluray drive, is there anything cool out there, any sort of device that goes into computers in that slot and where can I find them?
I'm open to anything that works with an ATX/SATA setup
Completely worthless, the whole lot of them, but a lot more interesting than another stupid fan-control panel.
I actually have one of those PlusDeck 2c things in my house, it's pretty cool if you were really into music in the 80s and have an impressive library on high quality tapes that you want to actually catalog and listen to easily. Other than that, not so useful for the price.
Use that space to mount more hard drives. Fill said hard drives with porn. You win.
The cup holder is pretty cool, but I don't know if I'd want a can of sugary liquid anywhere near my ancient rig, let alone a newer machine. Really, unless you do a lot of audio work and need front inputs, or you need front mounted card readers, there isn't much you can put into a 5.25" bay that isn't fluff.
If you get a capture card and can get the DC power conversion going you could put a Wii in there. That's about the size of a 5 1/4" drive. You may have to dremel your case up a bit but it seems feasible.
Or if you wanna go cheaper you could do the same with a gamecube but then you'd have no access to the power, reset, and eject buttons or its drive lid. They did that on TechTV though ... set up a PC with 3 consoles in it (GCN, PS2, and XBox for ultimate redundancy) and got it all working. It was pretty cool.
EDIT: non-joking answer: get yourself a card reader. SD and CF cards are cheap and plentiful now. You practically get them thrown at you when you buy other stuff. You can put them to use if you have an easy-to-access card reader.

Maybe fans? More cooling never hurts.
Heh. Welcome to my world. I can never have enough 5.25" bays.
Never ever.

more USB ports and fill them all with USB humping dogs.
Caps denote my excitement when it comes to fluffy 5.25 additions. I have copious meaningless gauges myself. I myself have: variometer, altimeter, airspeed, rpm, voltage, fanspeed for multiple fans, barometer, heading, turn and bank, cpu and gpu temperature, and am looking to make more additions.

edit: bought both from Newegg. Try any of the big online computer components retailers if they don't have what you want.

I think you fail at geometry here. I mean sure, you can get faceplates to do this. But I bet he could just put it in a 3.5" drive bay instead.
There are a lot of fancy dohickeys to spice up your case that fit the 5.25" form factor. You can seriously pimp your ride.

Case in point: shit like this. Or this. And more.

Oh man, those are both kinda cool.
