Sentry, I find it pretty hard to believe that your knowledge of Peanuts extends much further than watching a couple of the TV specials, which isn't really a very good way of judging whether it was a good comic strip or not.
And to be perfectly honest with you, I don't think that Calvin and Hobbes even exists without Peanuts.
From about the time I was 8 until I went off to college I read the comics every morning... Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes were both there... if I can remember details about one over the other, perhaps it is due more to the blandness and banality then it is ignorance.
Although I do agree with you about Calvin and Hobbes not existing without Peanuts; frankly, Sunday comics as medium might not have existed. I wasn't trying to discount Peanuts place in history.
