Can anyone reccomend good electric razors?

I am in the business of saving lives.

Absolutely. I've got an extremely sensitive face when it comes to shaving, and some stubborn as hell facial hair. The best product I've found on the market are the Braun electric shavers. I've got a model like this, and with the self cleaning feature, it's quite nice.

Now none of the electric shavers work exactly as well as a blade, but I find this to give me so much less irritation and it gives a very nice looking shave. Most of them have a trail period as well (which is how I tried out so many shavers, returning many), so use that to find one that works for you.

I'll second the recommendation for a Braun. I use one of the older models, but it still works better than others I've tried before.

They won't be as good as a blade razor. You won't get as close.

    Lies.

I chose an electric razor over shitty blades and I will never go back. Much easier on the face and I still get a great shave. This might be because of my skin, shape of my face, or due to my facial hair. Either way I get a great shave. I also use a Braun self cleaning. Keep up with the maintenance. Foils, blades, and cleaning solution if you have a self cleaner.

That is not always a bad thing. Some people have minor to major issues with their skin.

Exactly. It's not the same as blade on skin, since an electric is going through a foil protector, but the results are comparable. And at the benefit of increased comfort and ease, an electric is a great choice. I've found nothing as comfortable for me, and I've tried every blade shaving trick, foam, etc. in the damn book.

Same for me. I wear a beard now but the Braun 360 I own does a good job when I need a clean shave and as little irritation as possible. A perfectly smooth face does you no good with skin that's simply too sensitive for a regular blade.

(Yes, I also own a safety razor, and have tried shaving "old-school", etc. It just doesn't work for me, even with a really nice shaving cream and a good lather.)

I actually found a barber that does a full shave. It was cool but he was pretty rough. It was a pleasant experience though.

However paying $10 a shave sucks.

Do you notice how you said shitty blades? That's your problem, my ex girl-friends father used an electric because "those shitty blades I have to use occasionally and are useless" I asked him what he used and they were the shitty five dollars for a pack of 20 disposable ones. I've used one of these once and it felt like dragging sandpaper on my skin, it was worse than using a the same blade on my face for a month.

While I haven't touched the electric market since I was 16 I found that electrics caused far more chaos on my skin than a razor used correctly plus cleaning and ensuring it's charged was an overall hassle.

I would look more closely at you shaving technique than look for an excuse for a new toy.

Saying this if you have harsh acne problems stick a knife at 90 degrees to them could be a recipie for a blood beard.

I have a nice self-cleaning braun. I like it, but while I get a really closh shave, it sometimes misses random hairs. I have no idea what it is but it seems like the razor misses hairs on my jawline. I have increasingly found myself going back to my mach 3.

I was about to write this exact same thing. I dont know whether or not its the shape of my face or what but my Braun misses hair too. If i want a quick shave i use the Braun but for a solid, clean one i bought a Gillette Fusion about three weeks ago and its great. Blades are a pain in the ass to buy though.

ps - its Movember anyway, grow a mustache 8-)

Believe it or not, I can't use electric razors because they irritate the hell out of my skin. Blades never did, I can't tell you why. I tried my dad's electric Gilette after I was finished I had a ton of blotches then like a million ingrown hairs afterward. It was horrible.

I wonder If I'm the only one....

No, electrics tended to irritate my skin more than a standard razor. It simply sharpens the hairs on my face, leaving them feeling rough, and after a few hours they just itch like mad.

Friend of mine swears by electric razors, but the few times I've seen him with facial hair, it's very light in color and takes about a week to get to the same spot my face is at in 2 days.

So while I can't recommend a specific electric razor, I can recommend that a) you spend serious money if you're going to get one, because cheap ones are just a waste (so spend at least $100), and b) make sure your facial hair is the kind that will actually be shaved by an electric.

I have very thick and tricky facial hair and I use a really cheap electric razor. It gets most of it off, then I finish with a few swipes of a regular razor to get the stragglers. I get the best of both worlds this way: Low irritation and a super close shave.

You're not. Different people have different hair and skin and not all electric razors are the same either. I've used other electrics that both sucked for my hair and my skin.

It also can take some time for your skin to adjust to an electric razor too. My face didn't always feel so great the first week or two after I got my Braun even though it shaved well without, as an above poster put it, leaving me with blood beard the way a blade did. Now it's much more comfortable than the years I used a Mach 3 even when you ignore the bad interactions between a blade and even minor acne.
