By now, I'd assume that any self-described MST3K fan knows what Rifftrax is (for those who aren't in the know, it's Mike Nelson, Bill Corbet (the last crow), and Kevin Murphy's download riff service, the current heir to MST3K). Well, Rifftrax just got some mighty competition:
Joel Hodges, Josh Weinstein (the very first Tom Servo), Trace Beaulieu (the first, most well known crow), TV's Frank, and Mary Jo Pehl have announced their own riffing service. In case this hasn't sunk in yet - that's the original MST3K cast with the original writers. unlike rifftrax, Cinematic Titanic will buy the rights to old, terrible sci-fi movies, and release them synced up (with sillouettes) for sale on their website, along with DVD releases. How can they do this when such an endevor costs so much money?
LUCASFILMS IS BACKING THEM. apparently they have some powerful ties to Mr. Lucas himself who is greenlighting the project.
HOLY SHIT
They're promising that their first project will make Manos the Hands of Fate "look like Santas Claus conquers the martians in a car wreck with Eegah!" The project is set to be released this december.
And for those with observant eyes - yes, their logo is a cross section of Gizmonics institute with the Deep 13 tunnel below.
BUT WAIT, HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENEGER
Jim Mallow, the owner of the actual MST3K licence, announced a few days ago that Best Brains Inc (the company who used to make MST3K) is reforming. Starting
Monday, November 5th,
www.mst3k.com will launch new episodes of MST3K. These flash-encoded episode shorts will focus on Crow, Gypsy, and Tom as they riff "the vaults of Best Brains Inc"
What a wonderful time to be a MST3K fan
squeel with joy with me.
EDIT: Oh, and a final message from Cinematic Titanic:
"Keep circulating the

The Film Crew has been absorbed into Rifftrax. You can download old filmcrew stuff off rifftrax.com.
EDIT: OH SHIT. I haven't seen this stuff...
I would set my alarm to get up and watch it
To be left alone, the goal of every great hero!

new MST3K, and all you can think of is spelling?
sad sad man.
uh that was at the other guy
I have no fucking clue what MST3K is except that it's some TV show with robots a and a guy and they watch horrible movies or something like that.
rrrrrun on sentence hooooo
here, these are some MST3K shorts. Full length episodes of mst3k are usually 2 hours long, but these are 10 minute long shorts:

what to do on a date
I've been a diehard MST3K fan since their days on the comedy channel in 1990. It's bar-none my all-time favorite tv show. I was crushed when it was canceled a second time. I can see why some don't like it, but to me at least, it lives up to the hype it gets online.
Cinematics Titanics is definitely something I'll look into. I'm confused about this third thing though-- it's MST with no humans? If the old voice actors and writers are all doing this other stuff, then how does that work? Is it just MST in name only, like someone entirely different using the license?
It's the old writers for the show and some of the old voice actors doing bots only shows.
Best Brains were the original owners of MST3K. When sci-fi canceled MST3K, Best Brains Inc shut down, killing MST3K. The owner of best brains Inc is relaunching the company, along with a new MST3K.
Basically, everyone who ever did anything with MST3K is now doing their own MST3K-like project.
STEAM!
I care.
BIG MCLARGEHUGE
Let's make one thing very clear though, Michael J. Nelson was one of the original writers on the show from the beginning. And Josh Weinstein was a terrible Servo, at least compared to Kevin Murphy...
Joel and Trace and TV's Frank though? :^: :^:
Mary Jo Pehl has been a writer for the show almost as long as Mike has. The rifftrax with her and mike really felt the most like MST3K of any post-mst3K project because her style brought a lot to mst3k. Having her on board really should help the writing.
I saw a Mr. Sinus showw at the alamo draft house... it's good, but I prefer the real deal.
I just found out Mary Jo Pehl lives like 5 minutes from me. That's pretty awesome.
