[The Boondocks] is over, the finale was awful. Sigh.

As much of a Boondocks fan I am, they should've just ended after McGruder left. This season just felt like the current director/producers decided to; "lets just slap some Family Guy flow to this season, that'll show em!". Such an embarrassment to a great show.

I'm not even excited to rewatch any of this past season's episodes on DVR. Bleh.

How many episodes of BD are there, cause I've only seen/heard of maybe 4 or 5 and I want more!

Seasons 1-3 are about 15 eps each on average. So around 45.

Season 4 is bad if you haven't got that from us talking, so ignore it.

I just found the finale to be offensive. Not in the social commentary, let this make you think way, but in a very bad way. To the point I question the writers' intent.
You talking about "the new black"? Because that was revolting.

Yes. Honestly, I was going to turn it off, but was sure there would be some kind of pay off at the end. I was wrong. Very, very wrong.

I'm 99% certain that episode is the reason MacGruder left.

So I cancelled my TV mid-season, so I missed the latter half. Curious if you could describe how badly it went off the rails.

Ooops, I meant BD as in Black Dynamite, not BoonDocks.

Oh dear lord, what was that shit? *just saw "The New Black"*

Oh, cool, a Riley episode! Finally something that doesn't focus on Granddad!

    ...oh.

Not only was that just a regurgitation of "The S Word," but let's slip in some misbegotten gay, handicapped, and pedophile jokes. Like, I'm not the most PC person in the world, because I think that you can make anything into a good joke, and people need to learn how to laugh at themselves... but this? This was malicious.

Now I hope that McGruder makes a feature film to be a proper send-off for the show, Serenity-style. Because leaving the show on this note is a travesty.

    You know I can't say I'm surprised.

This always happens when people try to take over something that's funny without understanding why it was funny in the first place.

    But man...what a low-note to end on.

Disappointing to hear that the last season was such a wreck, but I can't say that the trailer showing Grandad losing all his money didn't give me a bad vibe about the season being really stupid. The guy was a skinflint who worked hard and saved up the cash to retire into a nice home, which he was able to share with his grandkids who had lost their parents; throwing all that away seemed like a horribly contrived and forced scenario and sounded awful as soon as I heard it.

A real shame, too, since the show went full-tilt at plenty of stuff nobody else would even risk touching, and did a great job of it. Well, up until last season, apparently.

At first I thought 'wait, what, Black Dynamite is up to season 4 already?'

Then I realized what mistake had been made.

I've only seen the pilot, and apparently its good, so having four seasons to catch up on would've been like whaaa~t...

@Dracomicron I enjoyed reading your thread. Lots of really funny takes here. Are you looking forward to The Boondocks returning on HBO Max?

That's gonna be weird without John Witherspoon. Did they announce any new casting?

I was looking forward to a season five (provided that McGruder was actually back to being involved again).

But then John Witherspoon died last month, and man... if Granddad's no longer with us...

The new reboot of the series that will be on HBO Max, it has not been confirmed if it was a continuation of the Adult Swim series. It is good that Sony has come to the realization that what they own doesn't work without its creator & he must be allowed to work at his own pace. When I see the word "REBOOT" I am not alarmed. Its wise not to set any expectations about the cast and production of the HBO Max series. Im hoping for the perfect mix of the newspaper comics and the Adult Swim series.

    I am cautiously optimistic, yes.

I didn't know about Witherspoon...that is a tough hit, but there are lots of talented folks out there.
