The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I just finished Doom 3, it was okay but it was a little too easy. I need more games like it, I've been mostly playing CS and never had a chance to play anything except for Red Faction and D2. I'm really thinking about buying the Orange Box. What do you guys think?
You really can't go wrong with the Orange Box. Half-Life 2 is excellent, as are its two followup episodes, Portal is fanfuckingtastic, and Team Fortress 2 is an insanely fun multiplayer game...although I can only speak for the PC version.
Orange Box is worth the 60 bucks for Portal alone. It is a short game, but gameplay is very original and fun, plot is intriguing, humor is fantastic, and the ending song is possibly the best ending song ever.
If you haven't played HL2 yet, you certainly must do that, and follow it up with Ep1 and Ep2. One of the most groundbreaking games of the decade.
TF2, I found to be vastly over-rated. But that is probably because I am more used to Halo 3's multiplayer, which is superior to TF2 by several orders of magnitude.
No no, I HAVE played hl1 and 2, and I really liked them. And it's $50 here, although I'm not gonna buy it through steam, only cause of the time it's gonna take to download it.
I've heard good things about Portal and TF2 those 2 are enough to make me buy it. Well then I think a trip down to the local gamstop is in order.
Steam actually downloads pretty fast depending where you are; I'd try deleting HL1 and reinstalling to check your DL speeds (I get ~3.5megs/second). It might end up being faster than going to the store, coming home, putting in the CD, installing, etc. But yes. Orange Box.
As for first person shooters, well, you have barely played anything, so...
Deus Ex
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Rainbow 6: Raven Shield
Rainbow 6: Vegas
Tron 2.0
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
Painkiller
Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4
Brothers in Arms
Bioshock
No One Lives Forever, No One Lives Forever 2
Far Cry
Unreal
Elite Force, Elite Force 2
STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl
Republic Commando
Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142
Day of Defeat: Source
I wouldn't waste my money on Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. That was a very mediocre game.
I'm going to suggest:
Titan Quest
Command & Conquer 3 - the whole series from the very beginning in fact
Warhammer: Dawn of War (one of the best RTS games that was ever made)
F.E.A.R.
Oblivion (only if you have a really powerful computer though)
Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2
No no, I HAVE played hl1 and 2, and I really liked them.
Have you played Opposing Force and Blue Shift? Both are excellent companion games.
I also strongly recommend every Call of Duty, Unreal Tournament 2004, Halo (the port to PC was terrible but you might find the multiplayer fun) and Day of Defeat.
So you know that one part and hahaha...oh wait you don't have orange box So yeah, go get that.
Umm, are you only looking for FPS? What about genres like Hitman (each one subsequently better than the last) or Prince of Persia (insanely fun)? PoP series was probably one of the funnest games off of a console that I've played. FEAR and Doom and all that was OK, but oh well.
Hitman is funny, I just got Hitman Trilogy last week, and I got it at a deal price of $30 spam
It features three critically acclaimed Hitman games in one killer package: Blood Money, Silent Assassins, and Contracts. Plus a sneak preview of the next big franchise from the makers of Hitman, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men.

no really, just get the orange box. You get way more than your 50 dollars worth of FPS action.

That should keep you going for a bit.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of others.

I personally DM was more enjoyable than Oblivion. YMMV.
I'd recommend picking up Far Cry and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time free off Fileplanet. They have in game ads in them, so their free.
If you've got cash to spend, get the Orange Box.
Simple as that.
TF2 is worth the price of it alone, it's like getting 4 other games for free. I bought it, and I already had HL2 and ep 1.
