Initiate Operation: Valkyrie WWII/Movie/EXTREME thread

So there's finally a trailer out for Valkyrie

For the uninitiated, the plot is that during World War II, the German Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Cruise) is severely wounded in Africa and returns home to Nazi Germany. Stauffenberg helps conceive Operation Valkyrie, a plan to implement a shadow government in the death of Germany's Nazi Führer Adolf Hitler. The colonel eventually joins the German Resistance and becomes part of the July 20 Plot, a plot that would assassinate Hitler and execute Operation Valkyrie. Stauffenberg finds himself taking on not only the responsibility of leading the coup, but also the task to assassinate Hitler himself. The script is based on the actual events that happened. It's slated to come out June 27, 2008.

It's directed by Bryan Singer, who did The Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil, X-Men 1 & 2, and Superman Returns. The script (which is highly praised) was written by Christopher McQuarrie, who did The Usual Suspects.

Valkyriecast.jpg
It stars (from left to right) Kevin McNally (Gibs in POTC), Christian Berkel, Bill Nighy (Davy Jones in POTC), Tom Cruise, Terrence Stamp (ZOD), David Schofield, and Kenneth Brannagh. Not pictured is Eddie Izzard or Tom Wilkinson.

Stauffenberg_and_Cruise.jpg
Cruise was drawn to the role when he was sent a picture of Strauffenberg and noticed how similar his profile was to his.

There's also a featurette up
I personally only had heard snippets of a plot to assassinate Hitler before I had heard of this movie, but from the reports that have come out concerning the production and the trailer itself, I am very excited.

All I have in my mind is "Blue valkyrie shot a potion! Blue Valkyrie is about to die!"

    "Welcome Red Warrior"

No a slightly different note, this film looks pretty good.

If I didn't know this was a movie about Stauffenberg, I would have guessed it's a new Nick Fury movie.

If only there were a cameo of Ed Harris as Rommel... I'd hurt myself with joy.

There should be a Rommel -v- Patton dance-off.

    In some other movie though.
