I don't know why, but Power Metal/Epic Metal is totally awesome. I love the songs because you can imagine so many cool things as the song's playing. Most of my choices are usually Finnish groupd, but I've got a good scathering of Germans, American and even some British [Saxon anyone?]. While regular death metal is cool as well, I don't think that it holds a candle to Power/Epic Metal.

Of course, there is the usual staple bands, Iron Madien, Iced Earth etc.

So what Power Metal/Epic Metal do you listen to?

    Never liked Dragonforce. Don't know hwy but they seem to be all, sort of a fake band just to cash it in. Of course, some of their songs are cool, but mostly, yeah, they try to hard.

    Actually, I dont know why people don't like Sonata Artica, I find thier songs cool though. Some one care to inform me? Is it because of Jani being kicked out?

    On that point, anyone ever listen to X-Japan? Found them through Wikipedia. They were a Power Metal Band, but broke in 1997.

    Death metal (and I guess thrash metal), from my understanding, tend to have gloomier/angrier lyrics.

    Power metal, like Dragonforce or Rhapsody isn't actually inspiring music, but it's usually about killing dragons and kicking ass.

    Slayer is thrash metal because their music does not stop. death metal occasionally slows down. Slayer does not.

    Power metal is usual like swords and knights and battle and princesses and such.

    Death Metal from what I could understand is about death and the usually scream.
