Any furry fanfiction that gets circulated to a non-furry is probably pretty awful. The only ones that don't suck are by people who aren't attention whores, and that's a pretty small % of the furry fandom.

Just because it's "readable" doesn't mean it should exist and should be read. The foundation of it wrong and thus an abomination. If you build a nice house in the middle of a landfill you still live in a dump.
I'm probably putting too much thought into this, but oh well.
As far as writing goes, it's not a straight comparison, because not everyone will look at it the same way. It comes with the territory of being a creative medium.
A vast majority of furry fanfics (specifically ones with the writer inserting their own character) are bad, because only a handful of writers who are good still write that kind of stuff, and the ones that do know better than to show it off outside of whatever limited community they feel will enjoy it. I honestly can't speak from experience on this because I don't write fanfics, nor do I read them, specifically becasue they are very consistently horrible. But that doesn't mean there's no good ones out there. It's just generally not worth trying to find one, because it's the equivalent of sifting through a sewer to get to a piece of cake.
