TV turned itself off, picture is weird now

Just a few seconds ago I was watching a DVD on my 360. However my CRT HDTV (Toshiba model 30HF66) just shut itself off, and when I turned it back on again, the colors were different. It's really hard for me to describe how they're different. The colors are almost right but sort of.... not vibrant? Slightly dulled?

It doesn't matter what the source is, it's always like this, and fiddling with things like color and tint don't really help. Some other information that might be helpful is that this was a floor model at Best Buy.

So.... any ideas what might be wrong with my TV? Any idea if it would be reasonably cheap to get fixed or am I going to be forced to buy a new TV?

Having a TV repaired (even if you know exactly what's wrong) will *always* cost $400+ for parts and labor.

It sounds like you've already played with your brightness and color settings. Unplug it and let it sit for about an hour, then power it back up and see what you get. If it still looks washed out, something blew. CRTs are absolutely not something you want to work on yourself, so if it bothers you, think about repair or replacement. :/

Power supply's frelled. Get it fixed before it starts randomly just vanishing the picture but not the sound, refusing to switch one and generally mucking about.
I say this because exactly the same thing happened to my ex-display TV after three years of loyal service: the power supply went wonky and the picture eventually started fading in and out then just died completely, but it all started with the colours becoming really dull and lifeless.

If it's a recent model then the part should be in stock with a decent repair place, or at least relatively easy to order. I have no idea about the price though; when our TV did this it was under warranty, so we got it fixed free (but of course it took three trips to convince them to actually replace the goddamn part instead of re-soldering the old one because warranty repair places are cheap fuckers).
