Was posted somewhere on PA as a link months/half-a-year back and for the life of me my searches are coming up blank on google and here.
It was a video that involved some university project where someone was placing different shaped 'objects' on a clear flat surface which then produced a specific tone or series of tones. By adding more blocks you could visually see a line connecting them together and then the constant tone changed in relation to the shape/function of the block added to the pattern. They ended up producing rather interesting melodies simply by adding more blocks and manipulating them.
If anyone can find a link to the video demonstration of it, that'd be great. Thanks!
