[Game On!] Soldat: Real-time + Worms + CS = Awesome?

What is this Soldat?
Soldat is a unique side-view multiplayer action game. It takes the best from games like Liero, Worms, Quake and Counter-Strike and gives you fast action gameplay with tons of blood and flesh. Soldiers fight against each other on 2D battle arenas using a deadly military arsenal. This is what multiplayer was invented for.
The best part? Its completely free. While registering does unlock certain features (colored jets, more interfaces, etc.) gameplay is not affected.

I demand pictures!

Man those graphics suck.
Shut your mouth!
It may not be the prettiest game in the world, but the gameplay more than makes up for it.

Oh really?
Watch for yourself:

Alright, I'm convinced
Download it!

PA Server:
I might be able to wrangle a dedicated server out of the Fractured Soldat admin, but for now I'll try hosting it on my own computer.
Port: 23073
Pass: wang
Game mode is CTF.

Alright, what else can you tell me?
Don't like the default graphics? Check out the modding forums:

Offical forums:
North American Soldat community:
European community:

Soldat has 7 modes:
Deathmatch - The usual slaughterfest
Pointmatch - Deathmatch with special bonuses for holding a flag and consecutive kills
Teammatch - Deathmatch featuring teams
Rambomatch - A bow is spawned on the map, and whoever gets it becomes Rambo. Only Rambo gets points for a kill. Make sure you throw your weapon before trying to pick up the bow!
Capture the Flag - Typical CTF, and the most popular gamemode
Infiltration - Alpha has to capture the flag from Bravo's base and return it. Alpha gets points per cap, while Bravo gets points for the flag being in their base.
Hold the Flag - TWo teams fight for control of a flag. The team that holds the flag gets points every couple of seconds.
There are also many community created modes, from dodgeball to trenchwars.

And quite a few weapons:
deaglesnn0.gifDesert Eagles
augsw1.gifSteyr AUG
Tip: The Spas is great for boosting yourself or teammates
rugercx4.gifRuger 77
Tip: M79 boosting is one of the best ways to capture a flag quickly. Think rocket boosting - just jump and fire at the ground. Throw a nade and fire for even greater effect!
Tip: Crouching and proning will allow you to zoom, but watch your back
Tip: Minigun surfing is an easy way to get across the map and grab the flag; just fire the minigun opposite the direction you want to go

Tip: The knife may not do much in terms of melee, but becomes a deadly weapon once thrown
Tip: Make sure you're either crouched or prone to fire the LAW!

And grenades
Tip: Everything you ever needed to know about grenades:

How do I not suck at this game?
I would first recommend playing with all of the weapons in single-player against bots. Get a feel for the weapons, decide which weapon(s) you'd like to use, and start playing in public servers.
The best public servers are the U13 and Fractured Soldat servers, generally you will find these servers have a better playerbase.
If you're looking for alternate game modes, try the !Elite or Enecse servers for things like Hexer, Trenchwars, Climbing, and so on.

I am too awesome for publics, where do I go from here?
If you find you're doing pretty well in U13 or Fracs CTF, I encourage you to head over to #sna.gather (for the North Americans) on Gathers are more organized matches, and consist of a best of 3 match between two teams of 3. You'll find that the best players play here, and its usually the quickest way to get better. For more info, head to:
There are other gathers for different game modes, but the normal CTF community is by far the largest.

More later if I can think of anything

The Fractured Soldat admin said he'd be happy to make a dedicated server, but there hasn't been much interest thus far.

Would people play if one was put up, or should I tell him not to bother?
