Really I just didn't want to deal with the hassle.

A few years ago I was at a Fry's Electronics buying some RAM. Right before paying I grabbed a Diet Coke bottle and put it on the counter.
I was looking at something, so I didn't notice that they never rang up the Diet Coke. I walked out of the store, passing the person who checks the recipts (Because there was a line and I had assumed I'd paid for all my stuff.) Someone chased me into the parking lot, looked at my recipt, saw that I wasn't charged for my diet coke, and escorted me into an office while they called the cops. When I asked "Can I just pay for it the manager replied (In a whiney mocking voice "Can I just pay for it? That's what all caught shoplifters say."
The cops came, they asked to view the security tapes, and the manager got nervous and said he didn't have access to show them. The cop said "Bullshit" and then got to look at the security tape of me putting the diet coke on the counter and neither me nor the employee not noticing that it hadn't been rung up.

The manager then recieved a ticket and got yelled at, while the other cop escorted me out, grabbed a diet coke out of their fridge, and said "It's on me." as he handed it to me along with his business card (Assuming I'd probably sue or something.)

That took 4 hours, then I got yelled at for taking a 4 hour lunch break.

So yeah, the hassle of dealing with employees who threaten to call cops isn't something I want to deal with normally, but after writing all this down I'm all fired up and I think I might go with Zenitram's idea to get the guy fired.

I was told by customer service that they'd try and get billing to cancel my order, and if they didn't cancel it, just refuse the package when it shows up and they'll refund me. Took a bit to get that far though (at first I got a bit of a runaround on "it's just waiting to be shipped tomorrow!" "No it's not" "Oh, it looks like it's not!")

    Fail.

They have no right to either detain you, or "escort" you back into the store. You were in no way obligated to go back in with them. In addition, you are not legally required to show your receipt at the door, either.

I haven't gotten to play much lately, since I've been busy at work. I just got to the "I Remember Me" assignment, and it was just as awesome as I'd been told.

However, I still don't understand a few things. What does the First Aid skill do on teammates? Since I can't tell them when to use medi-gel, what good is it?

I'm wondering something similar about teammate electronics / decryption. When I check a decryption object, does it just look at my decryption skill, or does it check the highest in the team?

Yeah, following you out of the store is a fireable act on the part of the employee.

If he touched you in any way, that would be grounds for immediate termination and a lawsuit on your part.

I figured it was all a misunderstanding when he told me to go back into the store, and I'd just have to pay for my drink. I didn't mind that at all.

It was when they refused to let me leave fover $1.15 until the cops came that I got really pissed.

And yeah, I agree that following me out should've been grounds for immediate termination but the manager looked really happy with the employee when he brought me in.

Basically, the people were lucky that my hatred for dealing with Lawyers outweighs desire to sue them.

Re: the Fry's story. I'm not a litigious person, but now that I think of it I would have sued. Those people were willing to have you arrested as a thief under false pretenses either out of malice or laziness, and that manager tried to lie to a cop. That shit is fucked up. Those people and that organization deserve to be punished both for your sake and for other people in the community that kind of thing might happen to. Hell, I'd take them to court and after winning donate the money to charity after court cost and lawyer fees.

First Aid stacks for your entire team. Meaning that the increase is in effect for your entire team. So if your whole team has maxed first aid, your medi-gel will restore so much health that the xbox will explode. Or something similar to that.

According to the tutorial window on Decryption and Electronics, when it checks your skill level it goes with the highest one in your party. So if Kaiden has maxed Electronics you can bypass any bypassable thing. And if Tali has max Decryption, you can open any locked door.

Electronics also seems to stack with regard to the Mako and its shields and repair function.

By the way, I just specialized as an Engineer.
I am now a Medic. My medi-gel function ignores Toxic damage, recharges almost instantly, and brings dead squad members back to life. Yeah... I'm never going to die.

Exactly. The ONLY thing a business can do is ban you from coming back. They can't hold you, they can't remove you (they'd have to call the cops to have them escort you if you refused to leave), they can't do shit. And if they're going to take that stance, do you really want to shop there?

We're getting off-topic, but briefly, you've already purchased the items. They are yours. Asking you to show the items and the receipt is an illegal search. If you refuse, they can't force you; merely ban you from the store if they choose. 4th Amendment FTW.

So as of last night I am 21 hours into Mass Effect.
I still have 15 side missions and 3 primaries in my journal and those are just the ones I know of. I've visited about 60% of the (solar clusters?) shown on the galaxy map. Each (solar cluster?) contains at least two solar systems which each contain at least four planets, though you can only land on one of them. I think I've only gone into two solar systems that don't have any planets you can land on...and one of those had a derelict spaceship I was able to dock with.

There is no way in hell I'm beating this game in 25 hours. Hell I haven't even returned to the citadel since I left it the first time.
Maybe I'm just really slow, though I haven't died much, or maybe I'm just finding a hell of a lot more side missions than other people. Every (solar cluster?) I enter has at least one side mission given to me as I enter. Then there are the ones I randomly find on planets, the stuff I get from talking to my crew, and the various side missions I've grabbed and still haven't done from the citadel and a few other random planets. The game is huge. Granted at least a few hours have been taken up from reading every last journal and Codex entry I've discovered and I do thoroughly explore each planet I land on (though I don't drive over 100 of it I cover the majority. I just know I've missed a deposit or two on at least a couple planets, its going to be a bear going back to find them).

So, in short, <3 Mass Effect.

God fucking dammit. Now TrU.com has taken Mass Effect down from the site. I can't click through from my order and search turns up nothing.

This is the fucking newegg bullshit all over again.

Newegg Customer Service is now saying my order has been voided, but it could take 12-24 hours for that to show up on the site.

They better not take forever to refund the money to my card. They sure took the money quick enough.

According to the tutorial window on Decryption and Electronics,
Wait, what? Why haven't I heard anything about tutorial windows? Where is this?

Since everyone got distracted by Accault gushing all over everything, I'd like to repeat my question for possible answering.

Where are these tutorial windows, and why don't I know that First Aid stacks across the team?

Mine is still up, they haven't voided it yet.

This plus the Toys R Us things is getting me so pissed.

I'm aware that I have no right to be pissed that I can't get the game I'm not supposed to get until the 20th until the 20th. But I am still pissed. This may have something to do with roughly $140 being missing from my checking account and nothing to show for it. I'll be getting it back but still.

I shouldn't have to suffer for these people's fucking up in putting a product up for sale that they shouldn't have.

I am going to the kmart downtown today... it's a pretty crappy kmart so hopefully they haven't taken it off the shelves yet (or sold out).

I went back to the K-Mart I mentioned earlier.

The guy behind the electronics counter yells at me "I TOLD YOU I WOULD CALL THE COPS!"
And then he picks up his phone. I say I just want to speak with a manager. 2 minutes later I'm talking to the manager privately.
I now have a gift card to cover the price of Mass Effect (Minus taxes) when it's released next week. And the asshole in the electronics department will no longer have a job at the end of the business day.

In short, thank you to the people who suggested I do something about that asshole.

If it's a crappy K-Mart, they won't have even put it on the shelves come 11/20.
