Okay, I own a G4 PowerBook Mac and I want to run EVE on it. There's rumours of a Mac-specific version being released later, but I'm not holding my breath.
I'm pretty sure Boot Camp or Parallels would be able to run it, but that would mean I'd have to buy a copy of Windows. What I would like to do is use CrossOver... but that only works on Intel Macs.
My questions are:
Is it possible to upgrade the processor in my G4 PowerBook to an Intel Core Duo?
How much would this cost?
Generally speaking, would this permit me to use programs designed for later model Macs that depend on the Intel Core Duo?
I saw some websites detailing how to upgrade Mac processors, so I thought there might be a chance, but oh well.
yes, you can (in some cases) upgrade g3's to g4s via a daughter card upgrade. but not g5s, and definately not to intel based x86. generally speaking, it was not worth it. and this is only for desktops. laptops, mac or not, are generally not upgradible outside of the ram.
The Mac version of EVE is Intel only anyway. Sorry.
If it's any consolation, the way Macs hold their value you could probably eBay it and then just spend a bit more to buy a Macbook. Especially if it's a 12" Powerbook.

Of course Macbooks have crappy onboard graphics which may mean you have to get an iMac instead... Or a Macbook Pro (painfully expensive).

I concur. Completely different processor, externally and internally.
