For those wishing for a 3rd film, this has to be it. Have you seen Murray lately? I seriously doubt he could do any action scenes or woo Sigourney Weaver. And thats coming from a guy who likes Bill.
Okay so basically nothing much to look forward to...so sad - I too was a child of the 80s and loved the movies. They should have went with the original idea of CG movie ala TMNT. The story / script will be funny though since Ramis/Akroyd are doing it.

Hey, I remember playing Nocture, and it was awesome. Film noir style monster hunting!
And I'm told that Bloodrayne 1 wasn't atrocious... I dunno...
Well anyway, I'm very much looking forward to this game. It's the freakin' Ghostbusters! How can it NOT be awesome? I remember playing some old mediocre game a lot when I was a kid, so this would surely completely blow away my five-year-old self.

This is a fine principle that applies very well to, say, Enter the Matrix.
Ok, I guess that's a good point.
But I thought the second Matrix movie was kinda meh anyway, and never even saw the third...
But, I suppose there have also been mediocre TMNT games, also. And there's that new mediocre Transformers game, isn't there... Ugh. No! I refuse to abandon hope! It must be awesome!

To be fair, though, The Matrix Reloaded was kinda meh and The Matrix Revolutions sucked donkey cock.
You forgot about the first one. That one wasn't so hot either.
So really it's a very different situation from The Matrix.
Hey now, the first one was pretty good. But they went a little overboard with the cross-medium stuff with the sequels. Two movies, a series of animated shorts, a game, an MMO and several comics all tied together? Of which only the Animatrix and some of the comics were any good? It's a bit ridiculous.
Hopefully they go the route with the PS3 special edition of Stranglehold, and include HD versions of GB 1 and 2. I'd buy that so hard, then rub it on my crotch for a while. Also, not all the games were shit, the Genesis GB was actually pretty cool. You bought equipment, like different types of weapons, food and so forth. Went to 'houses' to capture the ghosts, and one of the levels had 'stay puft' as it's final boss.
I loved the old C64 free roaming game. Drive around a city, pick up ghost jobs when they're available, trap the ghost between two streams and launch the trap! All the while things got crazier and crazier with the keymaster and the gatekeeper getting closer to the centre of the city, with the music speeding up dramatically.
If you passed that stage, which I only did once or twice, you have to dive between the legs of the marshmallow mine to get in to the building.
I never got further than that, I sucked.
::edit:: I forgot the awesome driving segments, sucking up ghosts with a hoover thing! That was awesome!
There was a ghostbusters arcade game that I loved back in the day. The view was from the top-down, and I think it involved the Real Ghostbusters. I remember that you had to shoot ghosts until they were weak enough, then use your proton pack. Most of the monsters actually kind of freaked me out.

I think I had this for the Appple II.
Didn't you have to buy a car and equipment as well?
Yeah, that was the one. You could choose from four different cars and you kept an account. The more money you made in game, the more carried through to your next playthrough (you got passwords). I didn't realise this till I got older though and kept starting from the beginning!

I fed that machine many a quarter. You could get a Slimer shield to protect you from hits.
Well, if it is a retelling of the first two movies, and they are looking to build a franchise of Ghostbusters games, then it's likely that this is just the logical first step and they'll be planning sequels to the movies in video game format.
Which is actually a pretty solid idea. The first game will sell well because of the movie tie-in, and any gameplay issues will be mostly forgiven by die-hard fans. They can then use the imput to improve the engine/controls in later installments that won't have direct movie roots.

Yeah, that's what I concluded about it too. They'll see if it takes off, if it does and sells really well they'll get the ability for more. Some would say maybe an actual theater movie, but I doubt that. Even though there are good ideas they could do about it that would be hilarious. Being a long time GB fan, this game alone is awesome news.
Looks to be like you're playing through the first two films, rather than a new story
OK, I've just gone from 'pretty excited' to 'all my dicks'
That looks hot, kinda bummed it's just a retelling of 1 and 2 however... but still, that looks cool.
Given that there really hasn't been a good Ghostbusters game like.. ever.. I'm all for it being based on the first two movies.
Even being based on the first to movies they have alot of room to manuever, while the movies really only showed one or two scenes of them actually ghostbusting the amount of jobs that they were doing each day was alot. Think of all the housecalls you will be able to go through and still stay within the cannon of the story. As was said before all my dicks are cumming.
According to that press release though, Akroid and Ramis wrote a post-Ghostbusters 2 story for the game..
Hmm.. Maybe the game is divided into 3 parts: Ghostbusters, (five years later), Ghostbusters II, (five more years later), Ghostbusters: Exclusive Videogame Story

This is true, GB2 had a lot of the clips with them doing a variety of jobs. It's cool either way, and you're right, the amount of jobs they did gives a lot of room.
Under the Game Info, they say some more. It's apparently based on a new invasion of ghosts and the like to New York, and you "take on the role of a new recruit joining the original film cast". I'm unsure what to think of that. We'd be playing as a fifth ghostbuster? That might be awesome or lame...
Perhaps the classic movie moments are the training mode or something? Or some sort of Classic mode? Who knows? But the official site clearly says there's a new invasion of ghosts.
Good thing their probably going to go through the movies first since it almost been 2 decades since GBII was released. They do this they grab some new fans and retain us diehards. At the core of the movies there's really nothing that would show their age.
When Zootfly released their stuff however long ago I said I'd buy a 360 just for Ghostbusters if it's Co-op over live. So when someone plays as Winston we can have some fun, Hello? Hey? HELLO? Winnnnnnnnssssssssssttonnnnn.
I guess they just don't make games from movies like they used to......
No, they never made them this way.
Seriously though, I'm sure Vivendi and Sony Pictures came up with this idea after the monumental buzz that was created by Zootfly, so I'd thank Zootfly for making this possible. And if their intelligent they'll realize the amount of cash and praise they'd get from this/these game(s) because from people I've met over my years, no one ever said they hated or disliked the movies.
Making you a new character is hte only real way to do it since otherwise you'd basically have to give players the option to play through as any one of the ghostbusters but with no significant difference between them. Its not like can only operate traps and the other can only fire the rifle or one is capable of climbing boxes.

Now to figure out if those points are positive or negative...
Terminal Reality. Bloodrayne 1 & 2, Nocturne, Fury3, Monster Truck Madness.
Hmm.

Also, wonder if they're going to incorperate any bits of the (real) cartoon in this (Probably not, but it would be nice).

Ghostbusters 2 wasn;t as good as the original, but it was still damn funny. And the villain was cool.

I swear, if they screw this up, there will be blood.
Venkman confirmed for Brawl?
Revolutions was better than Reloaded.
Not that that's hard.
And Ghistbusters 2 is indeed a little underrated.
I never got farther then that though...

Don't say that. The Gauntlet-style 3 player arcade shooter was fantastic. I don't think it could easily be replicated on a home system, though.
