I was at work today, checkingout the newspaper, and there was an article on PAX in the Business section (it mainly focussed on the Pitch You Game idea panel).
Towards the end of the article, it said that 7800 attended and that it will be moving to Seattle's Washington State Convention and Trade Center next year.
This should be alot more accessable for people in WA, as well as people coming in from out of town (near I-5 and I-90). And while it is fun to shut down parts of Bellevue by overrunning it with gamers, the heart of Seattle should have more food and lodging options.

Was that as funny as last year's?

If they're going to be at the WSCTC then parking will always be an issue, as it's downtown. Sat. & Sun. parking will be cheaper, but Friday will be 'spensive.
Hotel room rates will probably also rise, unless they subsidize a portion of the rooms.
The proposed legislation stems from an investigation into an Enumclaw, Wash., farm, where a 45-year-old man died on July 2 from internal bleeding due to a perforated colon resulting from having sex with a horse.
Can we get some cheaper parking next year? An extra $14 a day for three days because I couldn't get a hotel room near the MBC.
Dude, don't park at the convention center itself, do as we did and park at the nearby establishments. I parked over at Azteca (a Mexican resturant) a mere two blocks from the Maydenbauer center and had no troubles. I was there for over 12 hours each day of the convention.

There was a lot one block north of Dairy Queen that had 10-24 hours for 8 bucks. That's where I parked every day. Obviously, none of you saw that lot, because my car was always the only one there every night I left.
That's a lot of PS2 demos...specially if it's the same three total games they brought this year!
Imagine the Microsoft contingent!

Alright, when it comes to parking and downtown seattle, keep this in mind, it should help:
Now, I know geeks tend to be socially inept, and thus deathly afriad of public transportaion, but buses in downtown seattle are free! Go find free parking somewhere, anywhere, in downtown seattle, get a bus route booklet, and ride free to the convention center. Not only this, but keep in mind that most of the people that go to this convention are nice (with the exception of half the assholes talking about their idea of enjoying the concert.) And by the way, if you are someone I met during the convention, speak up, I could let you stay at my place (this especially applies to fellow omeganauts - I trust most of you.)
Wait... free transportation? It's almost like they're trying to avoid smog/pollution/busystreets, while giving poorer people access to other parts of town...
Andwarf on
Most inanimate objects find me at least mildly agreeable!

I thought about it parking in some of the nearby lots, but I didn't want to take the chance of getting my car towed by some pissed off manager or something.

Yeah, I hear ya. That was a concern of mine as well, despite my friend doing the same thing in year's past for different conventions.
However, we had no problems oncesoever, even though we were frequently parked there for 12 hours or more.
Two tips: Park in a large lot, and away from the establishments windiws. The lot we were in was perfect, since it was shared with a hotel. So they didn't know whether we were staying at the hotel or not, even though I doubt anyone was paying attention anyway,

Yup, as long as you're in the downtown area between 6AM and 7PM, the busses are totally free. Once you leave DT, though, the fare is in effect.
I, for one, welcome our new Convention Center overlords.
It will be fully renovated (we recently had all controlling interests bought out by SEGA) with a bevy of new games and I...I...
Well let's just say that I can 'hook you up' if you know what I mean.
Any Seattleites out there stop by and talk to me. I'm a lead tech there and currently have this ginormous zit to the right of my nose. I think I am trying to grow another eye. I further have no friends to speak of so...yeah.

I haven't been there in a while(Gameworks)...
Have they changed much yet? Do you still have the flight sim game? Do you have anyone that can run it yet? :P
Last time I was in there, nobody was there to run it. So I didn't get to play it.

That posting of where it will be might be a misnomer. However the logical solution would be to move towards seattle. I hope the hotel they get a PAX rate on is as good as the doubletree.(without the 17$ breakfast)
I have faith in the planners of pax. Our focus should be on childs play coming up next anyhow(no derailment intended). After that, then we can worry all we want about pax.
Got rid of the flight sim game (Max Flight), opening up the area for renovation.
Got a few new games in...plus a full liquor license.
Come on in. Lot of room for improvement, but I will buy your beer.
We can Mushi King it out!
...
I'm honestly excited about the renovation.

But still..I understand your hesitation.
I hope, for my job's sake, that things are on the upswing.

I've heard bad things about downtown hotels and fan convetions, specifically, that the regional manager of the company holding the contract to run the bulk of the hotels near the convention center dosn't like fan cons.
It's really just the Shereton that's a pain in the ass to work with, the rest of the hotels, like the Paramount, Hilton, Grand Hyatt, are all cool. Plus, PAX is actually ran buy a full-fledged business.

hopefully, things have changed.
I wouldn't be suprised. From the faces of the Doubletree staff, they had never seen anything like that.
Mark my word.. it´s not going to be in Seattle, rather it will be in Tacoma next year. The parking´s cheap as free, we haven´t horrified the staff there, nobody´s really heard of us there yet, and one enforcer told me that it´s going to be in Tacoma NOT the WSTC Center next year.. Just wait and see!

Yeah, I know it´s totally gay, and Tacoma sucks a fat one, but it´s cheap (becuase NOBODY wants to fucking go there), nobody really knows us, Seattle is too damn expensive, and Bellevue won´t have us back period. Meh. I´d still go, but only becuase it´s PAX!

Had a room on the super-secret 9th level...that plus being bummed out that I didn't have an RF adapter to hack the freakin non-composite TV in mah room led to much anti-sociality. Had every single Xbox fighting game ever made...was looking forward to alcohol-fueled debauchery, I Hit You In The Face style.

That Flight Sim game was the best thing they had there...
I'm going to go cry now. Didn't get to play it one last time...
I hope this 'renovation' is going to kick ass then.
It sucked incredible amounts of ass. Being in the dumb hangglider was not much different than using a controller.
