I find trying to match the lerp to the true ping in the netgraph offers the best results in terms of hitbox lag issues. For sniping, I put it about 10-20ms over. Cl_interp 0.035 is 35ms for example. It's also one of the reasons you see people hitting the 100ms mark doing so well, because the options by default are perfect for them.

Does this fix skill-related aiming issues, too? That would be awesome. Look out, PA servers, I have obscure console commands!
I didn't get to play last night... but tonight... watch your backs!
Also, am I crazy, or does just being near a medic make you gain health? I swear I saw my health go up a little bit a few times when I was just standing by a medic and he was healing someone else.
Nah, it just makes you stop scratching your head when you have a bead on someone's head with a sniper, pull the trigger and nothing happens. You still have to aim a bit off, depending on where they are.

Cereal guys, no space in the name.
Also, for what its worth I've been trying scout a lot more lately and he is ridiculously useful on the 2-2 point in dustbowl, I dominated all the spies on the other team, and generally was making a mess of the medics and such. I'm still trying to find the best way to drop soldiers, because even on pubs soldiers pretty much one shot kill me even after I get the jump on the them and get 2 or 3 shots in with the scattergun.

3 close-range scattergun shots should kill a solider easy.

Pop in, shoot them once, keep your distance, wait until they're out of ammo and close in for the kill. Don't be surprised if they don't fall for it.
Problem is after two I'm usually toast because even if I'm jumping the splash kills me instantly that close.
Yeah, it's no easy task if people can pretty much telegraph what you're going to do regardless of how random you are at moving. It's even worse when they decide to go toe to toe with you with their shotgun.
There's no real easy way to kill a soldier with a scout other then being able to look for opportunities and avoiding suicidal ones.
Personally, I enjoy passing the front and putting pressure in between it and the spawn.
Remember, you're jerk fuck off incarnate. Get people to chase you and heal up in their base. Your friends at the front line will thank you for it.
So someone brought up the fact that I jump like a ADD kid when I'm a soldier. I just want to know from you lot whether or not this actually makes me harder to hit or not. I time my shots at the apex of the jump: the advantage I see from my side is I can aim better this way at an enemies feet as I'm slightly elevated and at the same time take less damage from other soldiers/demomen. For some reason, it also helps me lead my targets. I cannot count how many times I've directly hit people at medium distance. Oh, and I've bound my jump to side mouse buttons, because I don't like using the spacebar.
I had a few good fights against you on Granary last night, and I really think you are easier to hit when you are jumping so predictably. I love when people jump because you KNOW where they will land (unless it's a scout). That makes it easier to pop em up in the air and get a good juggle going. I save my jumps for other peoples projectiles as I find I don't have much of a problem aiming while on the ground. That said, keep jumping because I find soldier jumps hilarious looking.
Also, am I crazy, or does just being near a medic make you gain health? I swear I saw my health go up a little bit a few times when I was just standing by a medic and he was healing someone else.
Depending on the Medic, it might just be clientside lag. Even if I'm actively healing someone else, I'll go out of my way to make sure everyone I pass gets the split-second of love needed for 150% health.

That's mainly why I play scout. That and gunning people down from behind. I giggle furiously everytime I make it over the train in Well during setup and get half the enemy team to chase me back into their base.
Also, Meiz, I have fiddled with those settings. If I suck now I'm blaming you, but it did seem that on my customary target practice (firing at the LEDs on the machines whilst moving erratically), more were landing on it as opposed to slightly to the side. So, yes. So far, blame is unassigned.
RE: rocket jumping soldiers, go for it. You have a perfect arc for me to draw a headshot on you and there's pretty much nothing you can do about it if you don't notice me.
Someone please provide a detailed diagram of how to get over the train as a scout. People say "jump on the light" but doing a double jump/duck doesn't get me anywhere from there.

God damnit Flippy play more.
Without you I seem to do a lot worse. No one to make me step up my game.

I'll download FRAPS and make a quick vid. Getting on the light is pretty easy, but you have to make your second jump from a very particular spot on the light for it to let you double jump. That's the tricky part. Also this may not happen until next week, I'll be out of town for a wedding.
Actually, I may just do a storyboard with screenshots tonight. We'll see.
I prefer taking down the heavy and watching the medic flail helplessly as pyros and scouts eat him alive. But I'm a cunt.
*[tiny]Yesterday I was pubbing and kept killing this other guy on 2fort. He was really nice about it saying that if he didn't try to kill me nobody would (he didn't kill me once, but still). As I had to leave, he wanted one more snipe-off against me. I killed him with five unscoped hits and was left with 4hp XD[/tiny]
Had quite a few awsome rounds tonight - Still learning to be an effective medic, and still trying not to be so stingy with my ubers. You guys make this fun.
stick with it, you're one of the good ones. Last night was great
Also I'd never noticed how much high ping bitches can make a pyro's life hell until one of the earlier games yesterday where it seemed like everyone was at least 150. "I'm burning you but you won't burn!"

No shit. A medic on PA was all "omg, I killed a pyro with a bonesaw!" and I was D:D:D: for the rest of the game.
I'm certainly no expert Soldier, but I use jumping mainly in two situations
A) Fighting other Soldiers. An occasional erratic jump can save you from a rocket aimed at your feet/lower torso.
Fighting at close range. Scouts, Pyros, and Spies are generally close enough that I aim for the floor to eliminate any movement feints. This necessitates a jump or two to avoid killing myself.
Always jump and shoot a soldier. Never stay on the ground and splash damage can't really wreck your shit.
That's actually not a good idea. Once a Scout has used his double jump his landing position is very predictable, and a good Soldier will have a rocket there waiting for you. A Scout that sticks to the ground and strafes randomly is a lot harder to track, as long as you keep enough distance to dodge their rockets. Generally speaking Soldiers are a bitch to kill as a Scout though so if I can't sneak up behind them I'll either pistol snipe them or just run away.
I've been playing other classes lately but when I play Scout it's because I want to be a total douchebag. I take the first opportunity to slip past enemy lines, run back to their spawn and wreak havoc. Namely, kill all the teleporter entrances, hide out of view until a spawn wave leaves and them come up behind them to pick off whoever I can. Well's CP2 is glorious for that because of the two medpacks sitting right there, and if people start to come after you there's the whole roof area to run around in. A scout can basically live in the enemy base just pissing people off and nobody can do anything about it.
Anyone get any screenshots of BlindPsychic's terrifying sudden death rampage last night. (That's the last time I post the name of He who shall not be named, I don't want to summon him and incur his wrath)

I dunno, a rocket at my feet when I'm jumping about tends to send me quite high up, allowing me to fire off 3 rockets with impunity. It's only when I'm about to land can you start juggling, but during that air time, it's a wait and see game for the soldier on the other end.
Against other soldiers, maybe it's not so useful, but against scouts, pyros, its a different story. I normally am terrified of scouts, but lately I've never had reason to fear them, unless I'm surrounded by 4 of them, as was the case on granary last night.

Yea, both strategies have benefits. Sometimes it works to your advantage and other times it doesn't. I try to time it so the rocket hits the feet as the guy lands, but it's not an exact science.
We need to do a Street fighter II style Balrog-stage boxing match where Marty squares off against Blind Psychic one on one while we all stand in the background doing our taunts.
That would make my video card melt, but its a risk I am willing to take.
how come g0ose is such a prick in the servers, but such a sweet-heart in the forums?

Machetéing spies is probably the best, but headshotting an uber-ready medic is pretty close.
The only thing better is doing it mid-air and see their limp ragdoll sail through the air and land in a painful pile.
