That would be really awesome, although pricey. $30000 is probably not far off what it would cost to get all of those pads (assuming they use reasonably decent quality ones).

Thinking about precussion made me realize something.

There's almost no way to do any Frank Zappa in this type of game, without a dedicated xylophone controller.

At that point, you might as well just get a MIDI keyboard. Actually, that would be neat too.

I know it's been asked a zillion times but I couldnt find it in the OP.

You can use the RB strat to play GH2 on the 360 right?

No, the GH guitars work with Rock Band but the Rock Band guitar doesn't work with GH.

    This is quite awesome.

At the end of Tom Sawyer in glorious delayed fashion he just pulled a "TIMMAH!" which echoed about 4 times. It was amazing.

Gameplay question and this is important: Is there an option to turn off the prerecorded vocal track for local play? I want to be teh rock banddd and with two different vocalists at once it'd sound weird.

Hell fucking no. Steel Battalion was awesome. And despite Line of Contact having horrible net code that was only designed for Japanese connection standards and was generally limited to only 3v3 instead of 5v5 everywhere else, it was possibly the greatest online experience Ive ever witnessed. Those 18 months Capcom had the campaign servers up were glorious.

But yeah. Rock Band.... I hear it rocks.

IGN-hating aside, they are promising a Rock Band review tomorrow:
Get together with three friends to form the ultimate Rock Band. Does Harmonix's highly-anticipated music game live up to the hype?

Look for IGN's exclusive review at 6PM PST on Friday, November 16.

Anything less than a 10 is unforgivable.

Yes, vocals can be balanced in either direction.

And can be done on the fly. The vocalist can hold down one of 3 buttons on his gamepad and use D-pad left/right to adjust mic gain, mic volume, and prerecorded vol.

Heh, exclusive how? As in theirs is the first? OXM already has a review for the game up on their site.

Ohhh, do they mean exclusive as in only on their site, as opposed to the OXM review being on their site and in the magazine? Because that strikes me as a pretty silly thing to hype up :D

I know it's their hit but I'm hoping they do some other OKgo tracks. Primarily from that first CD. I think almost half that album lends itself to Rock Band and is quite catchy and straight-up rock. Although, I do miss some of the horns and other bits that their earlier demos had.

I think this is going to be my greatest challenge. When we do our opening set at my birthday party, I'm going to want my vocals all the way down so that it sounds good for everyone (not that I think I sound like shit necessarily, but I just think that more people will be willing to try it out if they know their voices can be covered up, we're kinda like a demonstration band for the rest of the party). However, during the WGFA keyboard interludes, I'm going to want to turn my mic back up to talk to the crowd, introduce the band, thank them for coming out, make some snarky comment about a neighboring town, etc.... Depending on my level of intoxication at the time, this might prove extremely difficult...and I'm of course going to need to also remember to turn my vocals back down before the big, "YYYEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!". No one wants to hear me attempt that.

    oh, and...
    FUCKING 4 DAYS!!!!!!!

Here's a fun little independence test.

Start tapping a paradiddle (RLRRLRLLRLRRLRLL etc) with your hands on your thighs.

Now start tapping your right foot along with your right hand.

    Easy, right?

Now start tapping your left foot on quarter notes.

Yeah, you're going to be practicing the drums a lot.

Wait, you're asking non-drummers to do paradiddles?

Why not? The only thing tough about a paradiddle is knowing that it actually has a name. The pattern is pretty universal. I have never drummed in my life nor do I know anything about it, and I have been tapping out that pattern since I can remember.

The foot timing will for sure be the tough part. I can't even follow the example since I have no clue what a quarter note is, heh. Yeah for no musical training... ever.

Anyway, why aren't the DLC prices in the OP yet? That stuff needs to be up there. Could the op meister add them up please? Thankee!

Okay, I went from being super excited to the game, to being meh to the game, to being excited, to being frothing in the mouth excited.

I can't wait to create numerous bands. The first one is going to be of me and my three friends. I'll be the lead guitarist and my twin the bass.

So, waht instrument is everyone going to pick up first?

Vocals. It's what I want to master first, going to try starting on Hard and see how far I can get. Since I'm the singer for my party band, that's what I need to get most comfortable with first...

After playing around with the character creator for too long, I'll probably start out with drums, since it's the newest part of the game for me. Then after failing miserably I'll switch to guitar/bass to unlock stuff, and after my fingers cramp up too much I may find a few songs to vocally murder. The Killers, RHCP, Metallica etc are in my range, but anything requiring changing keys or being on pitch is hit or miss.

The hardest part is that I need to decide very soon whether to trade in games for the extra credit at an EB, or use some coupon at a CC/BB/Kmart/Target to get some money off the game. I guess I'll be trading in games I haven't been playing..

    Gears of War
    Bioshock
    Super Paper Mario
    Viva Pinata
    PGR3
    And maybe a few more...
