If there is any justice in this world, it will be a Mega Man Monday. With 3 weeks of no character update and his anniversary event this weekend, there's no better time. From what I can tell, the event actually starts at 9am Tokyo time, which was half an hour ago, and lasts 7 hours. If he were announced there I have no idea where we would look to find out. If it's not then, then Dec. 17th is the next likely date, which is the actual date MM1 was released in Japan and Capcom's anniversary site actually has a countdown to then. Still, if they were going to announce him in time for the original release date this would be the last opportunity.
I really wish there was a webpage doing coverage of the event. I don't wanna wait till monday to find out if something that cool was announced.

You know what? Nanowrimo's cancelled on account of the world is stupid.
All playable characters will have an assist trophy form. (that's not to say all assist trophies will have a playable character form)
I think this is pretty likely, but they'd be disabled if one of the players is currently using that character.
Or maybe not. I just think it might be confusing if the character you're playing as pops out of an assist trophy.
This is my bet, too. It's a fantastic idea, anyhow.
I would love Crono/Frog/Robo to be in...especially Robo. >.>
What would be cool is having different versions of the characters be the assists. Mario's assist trophy is Tanooki Suit Mario. Snake's assist trophy is Big Boss. Kirby's assist trophy is, I dunno, maybe a random power out of a small pool of ones the playable Kirby doesn't have.
Stuff like that.

That would be cool. I mean, either way, I still think it's the most likely thing to happen with the game.

Does anyone know where I can find decent quality images of the (awesome) artwork from the first Smash Bros game? In particular I'm looking for artwork of the hidden characters, though it would be nice to find all of them in a consistent size and quality.

I especially like Link's, too. those look better on a white background, but hey they are consistent quality. if you want to use them in a transparency you'll have to get rid of some of the white pixels and fill some in.
It's really weird that we haven't seen the Mario Kart stage even though the game was supposed to be out in a couple weeks(:(). I'm guessing he's not going to reveal it because it's another Mushroom Kingdom stage, and so far we only have one from each franchise.
I really doubt they will make playable characters assist trophies. That's just weird.
Yeah. I think assists will just be assists and playable characters will just be playable. I guess they could make the playable characters into assist trophies, but that would be pretty weird.
I also doubt we'll see playable characters as assists. But I do hope we'll see removed characters as assists. That would be a good way to announce their removal on the site too, i.e. Ness.

I hope Pichu uses a giant electric attack that promptly flings it off the stage.
Down-B: Party Change. This is how you swap out your current character. Because their special moves use "MP", they'll lose effectiveness over time (in terms of damage and knockback, and distance covered for Up-B moves) until eventually they barely do anything at all. When a character isn't being used, he/she begins to recharge "MP", so switching party members is a vital part of playing as the Returners. The order goes: Terra -> Locke -> Edgar -> Terra -> etc.
Terra attacks using magic. I imagine her as kind of light and floaty like Mewtwo but not quite so much as him. She's a bit on the slow side but her magical attacks deal pretty good damage and acceptable knockback.
Terra's neutral-B: Ice. A short-range spell that forms a small pillar of cold energy directly in front of Terra. Has a chance of freezing an opponent (like the Ice Climbers' down-B). Terra's side-B: Fire. A fairly standard fireball attack, something of a cross between Luigi's Fireball and Zelda's Din's Fire. "Explodes" on contact (the actual explosion is pretty small) so the splash damage would work well when firing into groups. Terra's up-B: Warp. Yeah, this is pretty much Mewtwo's teleport. However, you can hold B to charge it, and if you do so, Terra warps further than normal. Careful though, the longer you charge it, the less control you have over what direction she warps (if you hold it longer than around 1.5 seconds, the direction is randomized, so she could end up exactly where you want her, or she could end up warping straight down). Terra's Final Smash: Morph. Terra transforms into her Esper form for a while. She gains Super Sonic's flight abilities (but not his damage-on-contact) and her moves become more powerful: Ice becomes Ice3 (area of effect is increased vertically by almost half the entire screen), Fire becomes Flare (bigger explosion), and Warp becomes Quartyr (completely different: a dark sphere of energy quickly forms and dissapates around Terra, causing damage to anyone caught within. Less damage is dealt at higher percentages).
Locke is a quick character, similar to Fox in Melee but without a spamable projectile or ridiculous waveshining. He's pretty light and most of his moves don't have a lot of knockback, but his combo potential is high.
Locke's neutral-B: ValiantKnife. A pretty standard knife-swiping attack, but with a twist: the move becomes more powerful (in terms of damage and knockback) as Locke's damage % goes up. Locke's side-B: Capture. Locke rushes forward and, if he comes in contact with an enemy, grabs him/her and delivers a quick knife slash, then kicks off his enemy, gaining a bit of height. Alternatively, Locke's side-B: Hawkeye. Locke throws a razor-sharp discus that travels some distance before returning. Locke's Up-B: Air Knife. A standard up-B move along the lines of Marth's up-B. Possibly creates a wind current that can push foes up past the move's initial knockback. Locke's Final Smash: Mirager. Locke moves around the battlefield at high speed, attacking nearby opponents for okay knockback but lots of damage. Deals more knockback if Locke's damage % is higher.
Edgar is a heavy character, difficult to KO but isn't too fast and his recovery isn't great. Hits like a freight train, though. Two of his special moves involve the Tools from FF6.
Edgar's neutral-B: AutoCrossbow. Hold B to charge. The longer this move is charged, the more arrows are fired (for a maximum of four). The arrows are affected by gravity, though not as much as Link's are. Edgar's side-B: Bio Blast Fires a short-range cloud of green gas that stuns an opponent. Does no damage on its own. Edgar's up-B: Dragoon Jump. Similar to Dedede's Up-B. Edgar rises into the air, then plunges a spear into the ground. Anyone hit by the spear takes serious knockback, and the shockwaves caused by landing do damage too. The lag upon landing is kind of long, though. Edgar's Final Smash: Chain Saw. Edgar dons a familiar-looking hockey mask and brings out the ultimate tool of destruction: the Chain Saw. Edgar is heavily resistant to damage for the duration of this move, and anyone caught by the saw's whirling blades takes heavy damage and knockback. The tradeoff is that the saw's actual range is pretty short, and Edgar can't use his third jump while he has it out.
So that's my idea for a Square character in Brawl. I'd still rather have Megaman, though.

Arcibi, that was one of the most well thought out character creates I've seen. I would totally play that(those) character(s). Major Thumbs up! 8-)

Actually I think that's just Japan. I hear Pizza's really expensive there.
And disgusting.
Sonic is dead (to me). But! I am hoping brawl revitalizes these characters. Show me your moves!

New challenger - Megaman

GAY EROTICISM: confirmed?
We already knew about photo mode.
Yes
I just got to Gusty Garden. That stage is absolutely wonderful.

I found a low quality scan of Luigi, so I know artwork of the hidden characters exists.
Talk about aiming low.

He wasn't announced at the event on Sunday. Inafune was asked directly about it though and he said "No comment".
I'm taking that as a "yes". It seems like someone who wasn't involved would have no reason to give an answer like that.
I'm not sure what my point is.
An idea I had the other day (spoilered for length):
Using a character-switching system not unlike Pokémon Trainer, the Returners of Final Fantasy 6 (Terra, Locke, and Edgar) battle as one character. Each have their own special moves and Final Smash.
Like the Pokémon Trainer's pokémon, switching out members doesn't heal any damage.
As for the individual characters:
Terra attacks using magic. I imagine her as kind of light and floaty like Mewtwo but not quite so much as him. She's a bit on the slow side but her magical attacks deal pretty good damage and acceptable knockback.
