Wow, it looks very animated. What's the gameplay like? Just random grinding? Mission grinding? Instanced dungeons? I'm very curious now. I hit up DOMO recently and I don't think that one is going to do it for me, unfortunately.
Mission grinding.
Basically: killing a mob gives you ~50exp, doing a quest requiring you to kill 10 gives you 2,000exp and bones and equipment. You get quite a few skills early on to keep things interesting, but I mostly 1hitkill mobs at the moment.
So yeah, I just do quests now, there's flight routes between all quest hubs, so I use those to get where I want. If I am really lost I can go to my quest log and click on the name of a mob/NPC/location to make the game automatically walk me to there (including a Indiana Jones-esque line going over the minimap to draw out the route we're going to take).
Ahhh, it autofinds your quest for you like that Atlantica game? Hmm, that kind of turns me off from it a little. I mean I hate getting lost, but I do like to find this stuff myself. It feels a bit too hand holdy when it works like that.
And am I the only one oddly drawn to the cash shops? I mean I have no interest in buying anything, but I love sorting through the stuff being sold. There's some pretty normal buff stuff, but there is some flat out weird community stuff for sale in the DOMO shop, for example.
Anyway, I'll have to give it a try. What did you think of Atlantica, Aldo?
I hate all MMOs that put pictures of girls playing their game on their front page with a burning passion.
I'll add the game to the list after I figure out if there's anything there that makes it special.
*edit: Talisman Online
Free to play
A 3D MMO based on Random Asian Mythology, game looks like a badly executed version of WoW with the settings on "my pc is a wet cereal box". The game kind of forces you to work together with other players to get anything done. There's also a "Talisman system" which boils down to a system where you can upgrade your weapon and your skills are dependent on what stuff you have equipped.
Ahhh, it autofinds your quest for you like that Atlantica game? Hmm, that kind of turns me off from it a little. I mean I hate getting lost, but I do like to find this stuff myself. It feels a bit too hand holdy when it works like that.

Nah, you have to find the quests yourself, it can only be used to find your way back or find the quest mobs you need. It kind of takes away from the immersion, I agree, but considering the headaches I usually get trying to find the correct identical mob in a field full of them I kind of prefer this.
I never tried Atlantica, I am not really in the mood for games in beta.
Mansion System: Players can join Guilds and compete for mansions that are unoccupied. The winner has the right to develop the mansion, including building city vehicles, city gates, shops and a pet area. It is also possible to set the flying route into the mansion, setting gate guards, gate deity beasts and watch beasts of the mansion and collecting materials etc.
Pet System: Players are able to equip a pet when they have reached a certain level.[2] Feeding pets can increase their satiation degree and experience, while letting them join battles can increase their intimacy degrees and allow them to learn skills (Resilience, Regeneration, Rejuvenation, Resistance, Move Speed, Garrote, Critical) experience. The pets can be ridden by one or two players when fully grown up. The appearance of the pet may be changed through feeding.
Daily Events: Everyday there are special events that every player can join, limited only by each event's level requirements. It is scheduled all around the clock, with 3 possible times to join per day. These events have great rewards in the form of massive experience points and items.
I'm surprised that I couldn't find a huge-ass wiki on it, then I found the in-game encyclopaedia that pretty much explains everything you want to know.
Anyway, I'll be playing this some more later, I'm lev 17 now and my Summoner can summon a demon on a unicycle with a flamethrower, has a direct damage spell, a DoT and a nuke and a spell to heal aforementioned unicycling demon.
I also have a pig for a pet, but I have no idea how that all works. o_O
It plays exactly like GunZ except this is futuristic in a way and more stylish.
There are two kinds of play, Deathmantch and Touchdown, which is basically CTF meets football.
You gain levels and currency to buy better weapons and skills.
I have been playing it for a few hours and its kinda hard to level and get anywhere, but its pretty fun just running around and shooting shit.
I found touchdown extremely fun if you get in a good team that works together. I hooked up with a few players on it and played for a good 2 hours straight with them against random opponents, and we dominated so hard. It isnt that hard to level, and all leveling really does is just unlock the ability to get cooler gear and stuff. Its an extremely fun game and the graphics remind me strongly of Jet Grind Radio and Gungrave put together, its very arcadey, but ive talked to some people and they said the game has a lot more features in Japan and are just not translated and implemented yet in the english version. So at least we have something to look forward too.
Sounds interesting, the graphics *are* pretty. Sound this about right?

The Japanese version has a lot of extra features that are not yet translated over to this English version.
Wow, Zu didn't work for me at all. Not sure if it just doesn't like Vista or what, but it took over 15 minutes just to get to the character creation screen, and I finally got to pick my lil Dog aspect and name, and hit connect, and it just timed out. It takes 15 + minutes to load, and never makes it to the actual game :P Got tired of messing with it, but I'll try to redownload the client tonight just in case something went bad with the download.

I'm on Vista and it worked fine. Maybe the server just had a crash or something. :? I didn't have any lag in the game and everything ran smooth. Okay, until I turned everyone's shadows on, that dropped the framerate with a factor 3. Now I only have my own shadow turned on and it's fine again.

Like GunZ, it's Korean, made by the same people who make DJMAX (Pentavision).
[edit]Ok so I eagerly downloaded S4 (being a DJMAX and thus Pentavision fan) and tried it for about 30 minutes, playing a Touchdown game. After the 30 minutes, the game hangs, I go to Task Manager to see it using 1 GB of RAM. It's not even graphically demanding - it uses 800x600 or so resolution for fuck's sakes. Also no settings whatsoever, you're stuck with what you get.
Such a shame, I was beginning to like it. It's like a less free form GunZ (I liked slashshotting, otherwise GunZ would've just been utter generic shit) but the music and sounds was great. It just reinforces my belief that Korean can give birth to amazing artists, but also to utterly shit programmers.
I tried digging around again and found it does have a configs screen, and I can alleviate the RAM usage by minimzing it once in a while. Not encouraging to see 400MB in use when I'm just checking out the shop though :v:
It's developed by a Korean company, Pentavision, known best for the DJMAX rhythm games on PC and PSP. Alaplaya could be using the Japanese version and translating from that, though.
I seem to have stablized the RAM issue, it uses 200MB when I window it and minimize the window every so often.
I saw on another forum that Planeshift recently went from "tech demo" to "beta" and checked it out again. Not exactly sure when the change happened, but I noticed the list still says tech demo, so I guess it was recent. My old account was banned for some reason, but the change is really in name only, the game's pretty bad in its current state. Community's gone down the crapper, too. A mix of the last few hangers-on of a dead game who believe it's the best thing out and believe everybody who disagrees is just making a joke with a bad punchline and Linux nerds who don't play but still hang around complaining because apparently the devs have violated the GPL or something several years ago.
My favorite thing is, the tutorial is utterly useless, and the devs and community consider the godawful tutorial a filter to keep newbies out. My post about it (were told to do something that was impossible, turned out the directions were opposite and the actual actions had been changed in an update since the tutorial was first created) was answered, "Quit, that's what it's for fuckwad"
Oh geez, Planeshift. There's nothing like requiring all interaction with NPCs to be typed text sentences then not interpreting them even as well as an 80s adventure-game parser. In the name of keeping a seamless RP environment.
Yeah, it was a lapse in memory that let me even redownload it. Only admitted to having done so to update the fact that it's status has changed, if only in name.

I'm not 100% sure why I did it, but last night I re-downloaded and installed Sword of the New World.
The Bobsyn family has entered the world in the form of Robert (heh), Jonathan, and Victoria. (Wizard, Scout, Fighter, respectively)
I'll let you know how that works out for me. I had some fun with it last time but left it behind to play Guild Wars with a friend. It's a major grind-a-thon, but I never really minded it due to the fact that you were taking on such a constant onslaught of enemies. Was the most entertaining grind I've played to date.
Last time I went nuts with the grind and wound up outlevelling my gear really quick. This time I think I'm going to slow it down a bit, do as many quests as I can, and make sure I'm not missing anything.
Also, I downloaded it from Fileplanet. Patching took almost two hours on a 5mbps cable connection.

What did it for me was that the controls were designed by someone who has never played a single video game. Ever. Or even imagined playing one. Then I was hit with "omg noob you can customize EVERYTHING LOL". Yes that really helps when I want to know what the fuck changing Random Shit by 0.05 does for me.
Sorry I don't understand your fucked up scale for imaginary controls Planeshift, but I don't want to spend 7 hours trying to get my controls to a manageable state.
Played a few hours of Zu. Seems kind of brain dead, but maybe I'm abusing the tracking feature. Do you ever get to a point where enemies don't just sit back while you wade through spawn areas double clicking them to death one by one?
At least it has a good quest volume - I've progressed in levels and equipment fairly steadily just grinding quests.

Yes, at around lev30 you'll run into more and more aggressive mobs and they will get a lot more HP. As with most Asian MMOs they kind of expect you to kill multiple mobs at once. For as far as I am aware every class has a strong AoE for exactly this purpose.
I can't say I prefer this over say WoW where most classes can only take on one mob at a time, because this means you don't have to react to whatever your opponent is doing (except with bosses, they require a bit more tact). Not that there's a lot of that in WoW, other than stepping aside to dodge a fiery inferno every now and then and I guess breaking up mob spell casting.
*e: I thought it is kind of satisfying to pull 20 mobs and kill them synchronously. I also abuse the fuck out of the tracking system, but I also try to stop myself and take the proverbial long road home for some sightseeing from time to time. 25 screenshots and counting!
yeah, after 12 seconds in game i realized it was the makings of a very shitty game.
This is exactly what happened to me. The very first thing that was said to me, the very first, was, "Hello! Bring me 25 beetle carcasses!" or some such. I know MMOs all have some degree of a grind, but it didn't even make an attempt at injecting you comfortably into the environment at all. It was pretty jarring.

So I started playing ZU last night. Its pretty neat-o and its visually appealing.
The shitty gripe I have with it is, it says you can re-map keys, but it wont stick for some reason.
I am left handed and on a laptop, so mouse goes in left hand, right hand uses the arrows keys to move.
Well I cant remap the wasd to up arrow, down arrow, etc. I think other than that this is a pretty spiffy free game.

Huh, that's pretty lame. I'm lev 49 now, one more level and I can do "commercial flights" and I can join the next contest if I'm online at the right time. No idea what it all entails, though. That alone is reason for me to grind a few more levels. XD
There's also Round quests to get points needed for skill books, those are really repetitive and it's the one part of the game that I cannot appreciate. The old man send me back and forth between Holy City and Miracle town to kill 10 mobs 4 times now. There's not even a story behind these quests, you just do them to get points for new skills.

Ok I really really like Zu, it has kept my attention a lot longer than most free jmorpgs have.
I havent played too much of it but enough to get the hang of it well enough now. I am working on getting my pet up to my level now since I didnt realize that WAS my mount.
The next thing I need to figure out is gear stats and whatnot. then the "talent" builds. But I think I have a way to go before I can even worry about that yet.
But yea, I like this game alot and its a nice side game when my guild isnt raiding or I am not playing an alt on WoW.

Try to get in one of the pet parties in Sky Lake, with a full party you'll find fruit a lot faster. Can't help you with the rest of these things, I have no idea what I'm doing either. xD
It sounds interesting, kind of like how Titan Quest deals with classes, in that you have six classes to choose from, and you select both a primary and secondary class. On top of that, you can swap between your primary and secondary, and actually have to as only the primary class receives xp from levelling, etc.
If you sign up, make sure you fill out the questionnaire after logging into the website as that looks like it's required to progress. Client download doesn't look like it's available until the 28th.

Sounds about right. I just saw it and thought it looked neat. They readily admit that WoW is their inspiration, but the production values look high and seems well backed.

A futuristic MMO with swords. At first the publisher was going bankrupt, but now they have released their full game for free. It offers the fairly unique feature of creating your own scenarios to let others play through. The game looks painfully dated, though. It does claim to offer near complete freedom in creating and evolving your character and a living world where mobs have have behaviour patterns other than "docile" and "kamikaze".
I also ran into another post getting too big, as a last resort I deleted the "free to play" tag, I hope it's still clear that all games are in fact free to play and I still note when there are caveats. If/Once I run out of space again I will be forced to see about hosting this off-site, Either through a google ap or convincing someone to make me a pretty website (favourable).
