Ryzom, at launch, had the deepest and best crafting system of any MMO I've ever played. It was seriously the best, by far, of any game ever. They botched it with some bad UI choices that really hurt it, but their crafting and skill systems are extremely unique.

I haven't seen anybody mention Sword of the New World yet. I've been playing it for a couple days and I enjoy it, I think the concept is kinda neat (instead of one character you run a three character party). The first few levels (1 to 15-ish (the game goes up to 100 or so)) are a bit boring because you don't have many abilities and your characters can pretty much run themselves, but after level 15 or so it becomes necessary to pay attention because you start actually dying.
It plays kind of like a tiny RTS, for instance it is click to move and ctrl+left click is "move to this location and kill anything between here and there" and if you have to afk you can set them to defensive mode which will make them auto attack anything that wanders into range. If you leave the healer class in "medic stance" then it will auto heal so you don't have to manage the healing if you don't want to.
I could see people finding this very boring due to the fact that you could play the game with very little actual command input. The AI is plenty capable of taking down groups of regular or elite mobs without you, but Boss monsters will kill your party without you and higher up enemies start getting spells that suck if you don't get out of their way.
Anyway, I think it has a neat concept, very good but not perfect execution of that concept, wonderful graphics - though I must point the woeful lack of character customization early in the game (no alternate faces, hair styles or colors or skin colors - at least not in the early game) and is an enjoyable experience.
Yeah this thread is pretty awesome Aldo. It's pretty cool you've got yourself dedicated enough to do this.
If you do get a website please don't make it black or dark colours with really gothic looking theme like almost every other MMO site does.
Make it colourfull and bright with a chilled theme. I'm pretty sure all the people who are playing and testing MMO's on here would be fine and dandy with keeping you updated on what they're playing and giving reviews on here for you to use in updating the site.
Sharing your own experiences with the game is great, I think there may even be a thread around about that game.
Yelling at me to put such and such game in the OP and telling everyone how much game X sucks/really sucks/is coo' is pretty much the point of this thread.
t Joh: thanks. I don't like red/black, so don't you worry. <_<>_>

Has anyone here managed to get into Runes of Magic? I signed up, but so far haven't gotten in.
Old site is still up but appears to be partially broken.
Oh hey, thanks. I'll update it here and in my PW thread right away. Did you notice the site looks a whole lot less like WoW's now? Maybe they'll even get around fixing some of their other glancing errors as well. Reading through the news report about their international version makes it clear they started a new company in Redwood City, California with the sole purpose of getting PW out there in the rest of the world. They show great faith in their product.

I got a mail from gamengame telling me Neosteam has received a huge update, some of the changes almost make me hopeful:
-WASD support
-RvR system
-Raid boss summoning
-Whole new zone
-Update for main towns (probably easier to navigate?)
-various skill balance adjustments
Glal and I (it was you, right, Glal?) tried this game out earlier and were impressed by the steampunk-ish art direction, but despised the lack of pathfinding, generic combat and horrible engrish. If they continue supporting this game and making it more accessible to us whiteys it might just turn out to be an ok game.
My first impression of Perfect World was certainly not very favourable, but YMMV. Not sure what, but I just couldn't "feel it". It's like they tried to be a little WoW, a little EQ, maybe throw in a little Vanguard too for good measure.
Even from a free type of game like that, I feel some games can really still set themselves apart or have their own style, but this just felt really like a mishmash of all the successful MMOs of the past.

That's how i felt about WAR.
Anyway, PW is not original if you look at all the individual parts, but the combination is what makes it stand out.
By which I mean: it's crazy.

Still waiting for an opportunity to check out Runes of Magic...not sure how fast they're letting people into CB but it's not fast enough.
According to the vets it's the outpost PvP wars (large groups of people/guilds fight over outposts), and just advancing your character with buddies or whatever
I found myself struggling to keep playing after giving harvesting a try..
also not to mention the beginner island that they created to ease players into the game is fucking awful

Well, that doesn't sound promising at all.
Starting area is indeed horrible and impossible to skip. There's just nothing interesting about the game for the first hour I played, everything is bland. I'm really trying to understand what would possibly make this interesting, but I think that "make your own skills by combining part A with part B" and "put your own maps together" is what they consider fun.
It is not, it just means you have to click some more buttons to get to the boring combat.

World of Warcraft did the same thing.
Took a bit of EQ, a bit of DaoC, a bit of FFXI and mashed it all together to make the most succesful MMO of all time.

did I mention the combat is atrocious?
I've played a bit past the starting island, and I'm thinking it's largely a matter of scratching the exploration itch. While the tasks people actually give you are fairly devoid of variety, it's a big place and harvesting/crafting gives you a little extra reason to see it all. (Combat options available at trainers open up some once you get out, but I'm guessing this doesn't make things a whole lot more interesting in that respect.)
And on the other topic, yeah, I'm enjoying S4 a lot.
I gotta say, Perfect World is impressing me quite a bit. The new version (which, since I started like two days ago, is the only one I've played) doesn't have much of an Engrish problem at all.
Granted, I haven't really REALLY played any MMOs since UO or EQ, so it might just be that I'm starved.
Does ROSE look this atrocious or is your PC just very old, MKR? :?
Mith: urgh, that doesn't sound like something I would enjoy very much.
Some oldbies I talked to seem to think that the company running the game only made it F2P for a while to make everyone enthusiastic so that they want to pay for a subscription. They claim that in a month of two they will have so many new people addicted that they can go back to P2P.
We're talking about a game from 2004 I hadn't heard of before it was mentioned in this thread.

Did S4 receive a major update or something? I thought it was suffering from lag and lack of things to do?

Laptop, shared memory, 2 years old. I can run it at the second-to-highest setting, but it lags more.
In vaguely related news: I'm enjoying Florensia at the moment. It is very relaxing and sea combat actually involves aiming and some form of strategy. mobs at sea seem to have a 360° cannon while I only have one that shoots port, starboard and straight forward. =/

Not in the last few pages though.
This is correct, and I swear I did not see it in the OP, though it might have helped if I had actually done a little ctrl+f whoops

Someone explain to me what the point behind the game is. Why should I play it?

second skill looks like auto pickup
so it's two skills in there
Granted, I haven't really REALLY played any MMOs since UO or EQ, so it might just be that I'm starved.
I haven't bothered with skills much.

You sucked so much
no one even wanted to play your game for free

I went into a mob of these thinking they were the weaker, non-aggressive pig things.
It turns out that they are not.
Is there a ROSE thread somewhere?
