I want to like Neo Steam as its got a bit of charm about it and some really neat ideas, but it feels very clunky as its fairly outdated now. Will probably fill my 'casual MMO' time until Dragonica shows up again from IAH or THQ.
Giving Warrior Epic a shot
edit: Nevermind, dude that told me to play it even said its bad.
I don't know, I'm finding it to be a decent Diablo clone so far. Even the lobby and game system is Diablo inspired, and the comments from your character as you play in storymode are an interesting touch.
I don't get why in the first realm all missions give special equipment to Pit Fighter and generic equipment to all the other classes, though...
Does Quake Live count yet? It has persistent stat tracking, friends lists, and skill tiers, so in a sense you can level up if you play hard enough. It's in open beta now if anyone's interested in getting their Quake fix on the go.
RE: Warrior Epic.
When I played in the first beta it was an alright game, design-wise. Pretty much a mix of Diablo and Guild Wars. The only problems I had then were that only like 3 classes had been enabled and even for them most of the skills weren't working yet, it was also very hard to level doing the same few missions over and over, and there were no loot drops at all except for one random chest on the 3rd mission.
The thing that really killed the game, as I've said, was the HP system. You start each mission with 3 hearts and there is no way to recover health aside from a couple of class specific skills (that are limited to 1 or 2 uses per mission). Once your 3 hearts are gone you die and then come back to life a few seconds later. I think you could die twice each mission and the third time it was game over for your character. The biggest problem with this was that you could bring health potions with you, but the health potions were purchased from the cash shop. Missions had set monster spawns, too, so unless you got very lucky or very unlucky there were just missions that you could finish and missions that you couldn't finish, and ranged characters had a huge advantage, since they didn't have to take hits every fight.

I'll add Quake Live. I'm not sure what to do with Warrior Epic. Their site doesn't even really work for me.
I also made a Quake Live topic in the main G&T forum, but nobody seems that interested yet. But still, it's a good game and it deserves some attention.

thanks.
I'm not interested in shooters either. The last one I played was Half Life 2.

Right now the hp system is a standard hp bar; the hearts are gone (and the hearts were still there when I played 3 days before they went live, so that's new). I played the tank character and she has unlimited heals on a cooldown, so at least that's changed. I haven't lost a character yet, though I'm not sure how long I'll keep playing - I am already kind of tired of "repeating" missions. But I also want to earn prestige so I can unlock new warriors, wah!

From what I read, the gimmick of the game is you can use your (permanently) dead characters souls as boosts on items or to be summoned to fight for your current character .(You can use also monster souls somehow unless you log out before using it). But if the devs don't realize that items are of the core concepts in a Diablo-clone then all is lost (and real money for healing items is just dumb).
Warrior Epic: Dead characters can be revived for a very low cost of Prestige Points (which you earn by beating a mission).
The game has its issues, but it works as a fairly fun mix of Gauntlet and Diablo.
The limited health makes the game pretty challenging, and I can't say that I don't like it.
I'm enjoying Warrior Epic quite a bit, my only real complaint is that with the way exp/prestige is awarded (that is, at the end of a mission) any mission-stopping bugs are brutal.
EDIT: Also to add some more information, it's very much akin to playing D2 Hardcore but way more forgiving. You can never permanently lose your characters, there's always revival options (none of which cost real money for reference), and it will auto-revive your last warrior for you if you lose it. You get 3 lives per mission (or 2 deaths), which are refreshed for the next if you survive.
Probably the best 'D2 clone' we're going to get until D3, it just needs some work. Try it if you're up for something that's rough around the edges but otherwise puts a strong new spin on the standard diablo clone.
I thought the game sucked, it was all grinding all the time, it was full of Engrish, only two factions were available, combat was an unresponsive clusterfuck and there was absolutely zero pathfinding.
But don't take my word for it, a quick search on the thread comes up with Glal saying it hardlocks his system, Xanathos says he cannot recommend the game to anyone on account of no polish
It's a decent waste of an afternoon and nothing more. Don't download it if you expect it to be more. The lack of pathfinding is the final nail in the coffin, as running into walls gets you stuck and you need to move away from the wall before you can leave, rather than just slide along it like in every sensible game.
Did they ever implement the neutral faction? How is the grind so far? How is the Engrish? How long have you played and how many special attacks/abilities do you have?
For the sake of some feedback: I have a level 15 Paladin on Lyell Neo Steam. I have I think 9 buffs (8 minute duration, sigh), 2 attacks, and 2 summonable pets. I may have picked the wrong class as I find myself bored. Nothing even has a remote chance of killing me ever, most things my level or 1-2 higher literally hit me for 0 damage. The issue being that quest progression isn't really taking me anywhere at a decent pace, so I have no idea where to go to find things that might be remotely challenging/rewarding. I think the game has a bit of an inverted typical F2P MMO issue - that being the initial progression is extremely fast, I believe I have all the skills I would get and getting to level 15 only took a few hours. The downside is that it seems all I have to look forward to is general power and skill upgrades.
Also I don't 'run into walls' but I've found myself on multiple occasions getting stuck on corners, stairs, hills, absolutely anything that could remotely touch my character. It's not super common, but I'd say it would happen at least once an hour, little more often if you're used to running along walls/terrain edges to get where you want to go. It's not game breaking, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't frustrating to spend a solid minute trying to figure out how to dislodge my character everytime it happens.
Thanks Nishu. This does make me slightly interested in the game again, the design of the world was very pleasing and the neutrals were supposed to get a race that looked like lion and I like lions, soooo. OK I am horribly shallow.
As for where you could level, there's usually guides on official forums for these kind of grinders. Maybe check one of those out. That's how I played ROSE, I just read a guide on how to develop a character type I would like and followed it's general directions to grindable mobs.
I made the last few threads for free MMOs we want to play, I think it's someone else's turn now. I mean, Dragonica needs a thread, but I don't want to make it.
:!::!::!::!::!: Please make a thread for NeoSteam if you want to continue talking about it, now that there's a few people playing it a thread will help you and it will help me keep this thread a general free MMO thread. Thank yoooouuuu.
What I'm trying to say is that there is no reason not to make a thread for your game, no matter how shitty it is it's still way easier to have guild/friendlist info in a tidy OP and with other people seeing the title of your thread, which means they'll get all interested in it.

e nevermind, not really a f2p game

Anyone want to beta read a paranormal mystery novella? Here's your chance.

Had it all downloaded and my account and everything, and I missed the "early access" beta by 3 days.
Gotta wait for the unannounced open beta to play now.
1) You can play Neosteam on one of the many other sites
2) You do not want to play Neosteam.

playin' the shit outta that game

Still playing
Also I tend not to run into walls so that doesn't seem to be a problem?

I keep trying to connect but can't. Is it still down for the update to go open beta?
The North American preview beta starts on May 29th and I believe the European beta starts on June 10th.
I'm groovin' on it
Delicious!
nap time then! too bad the d/l isn't live until then either
I just gotta grind...and grind and grind to get some kinda steampunkish walking Neo Steam powered mega locomotor mount of everdread right?
I thnk most everyones on Voltspire.
I really hate that I cannot use the arrow keys to move btw.
Other than that this game is pretty swell.
Use wasd to move?
I tried that, but I am left handed, so my mouse goes left hand, and right hand on the keyboard, making it kinda awkward.
Its all good, I will just click everything to death, its not a huge problem.
Also, just hit 13, and went Tinkerer.
