looks like dragonica is going up at 5 PM CST today (friday).
Enough time for you to make a thread. *hint hint*.
For those of you eagerly awaiting this (like me), run the client now, it installed a patch for me and I'm fully the expecting the servers to be hammered later today.
Correct. The IAH one is supposed to be up (either yesterday or today), THQ's version is starting preview beta at 3 PDT this afternoon. Hopefully fleshed out enough that we can get a feel for how they'll handle the game compared to IAH, and any lag issues present between the two versions.
Man, whenever I go into a forum of a free MMO like dragonica, I feel like I should be wearing a haz-mat suit or something. It's like wading through sewage.
ummm the server (emphasis on singular) is up it's just crowded and you can't enter. pretty lame, reminds me way back when RO first came out in english.
basically they gave out waaaaaaaaaaaay too many keys. but maybe that is what they are testing?
Fileplanet also has keys to anybody with a registered account, subscribed or not. There is in fact only one channel available for the server, and it is completely full. I get the feeling they're stress-testing it at the moment, although a word to the community would probably be wise on their part to quell the flames.
I hammered the login for a bit and got in to play for about an hour before I decided to give someone else a 'turn' so to speak. XP is ramped way up right now for testing purposes, I hit 7.5 in that hour.
As much as they dropped the ball on the 1 server/channel bit, it feels damn good once you're in-game. I thought the IAH one hosted in Europe brought a solid connection for the NA folks, THQ's version does it even better. Maybe the server will start hurting a bit once its loaded with a full set of channels, but even with the channel overfilling with people all in the same areas it was smooth as butter. Controls were sharper than ever, everything felt just awesome. I nailed S ranks on my first run through all 4 levels of the initial mission. I never felt like I was taking a hit because of lag or that I lost my combo from even a split second of lag. Oh and for reference, I went through on a second run and played mediocre on purpose to test to make sure the ranking system wasn't just purposely broken and got a B, so.
A lot of words about a brief experience, but it's promising news for those that were planning on going with the THQ version. Just have to see how they handle it from here on out.

spam the FUCK out of enter on your keyboard and its not too hard to jam your way into the server.
I played this for the first time tonight, gotta say it kicks the shit out of any korean game I've ever played. Got to level 12 on my magician and I'm gonna throw in the towel for tonight
I think I started playing at like 9 and it's about 1 now, so exp rates aren't bad at all... then again I'm pretty sure they were jacked up for this preview beta thing since the level cap is 39 anyway. Regardless, fun times
This game is super sick. I can't stand the controls, and even if you change them the queus that show up on the screen stay the same. It's counter-intuitive, and it confuses the fuck out of me even though I know I changed the keys.
Press space? Oh wait I changed that to 'c'. 'C' is space? SO I JUMP WITH SPACE? I TALK WITH SPACE? /brain explodes.
Fun game though.
Edit: Err. The game crashed on me after I got to the boss of the third difficulty of that first mission. The one with the wolves. Anyone else have that issue?
Man, it's not that hard to wrap your head around, and no, no crash problems here, though, I seem to have a bit more lag on the thq server, probably because they only have one channel. Just keep your fingers above ZXC.
Oh god, Luna Online is the most generic Asiatic F2P ever. From character creation that's just "cutesy anime human or cutesy anime human with longer ears, pick eyes and hairstyle" to classes that are the usual trifecta of Mage, Warrior, Rogue.
Oh, and the first thing you see upon logging in is peopleshops.
Granted, I uninstalled about 60 seconds later, but I'd be surprised if there's anything worthwhile in there for anyone that's played any sort of MMO before.
Uninstalled after 60 seconds, hah. You've beat my record of 5 minutes.
Luna Online
Standard Korean grind MMO, this one has some extra classes to evolve to and you can build a farm with your in-game family. Everything else? Just another cutesy grind MMO.
Added in entries for Quarantine and Urban Dead. How did I miss those? o_O
Also, this is becoming a problem, another high quality free MMO has been announced. this time it's Allods Online.
Allods Online
Alpha testing
Russian MMORPG based on the first Russian RPG ever: Allods. The graphics look very cartoony and colourful. There are a lot of classes. Combat is mostly standard MMO fair, however, teams of 5 to 25 persons can go on a flying ship and use that for air battle against other players. There's a rather strong focus on PvP.
I want to get into gunfights in the middle of a town and trap animals and ride my horse across the vast desert, then maybe lead a group of people on a short cut that ends up with me eating half of them to survive.
Has anyone ever thanked you for your work maintaining the list, Aldo? If not, Thanks
t Buttcleft: there is a distinct lack of Western games, period. Call of Juarez, that mod they made in G&T and Desperado are pretty much the only Western games I know of. Also, you're welcome.
t Gurusloth: there is, gPotato is going to make localized versions for Europe and that includes Great Britain. For as far as I am aware Americans can just play on gPotato no problem.

The Grind
Gear is a Grind: Finish a Misson you have a chance to get a single piece of Gear you may or may not have a character capable of wearing. And currently no way of trading with other players.
XP is a Grind: Namely level 5 takes 2x as much XP as getting to level 4 from level 1
The strange thing is your expected to level multiple characters to make full use of the "Fallen Spirit" Summons. Which is where you summon a dead character of yours to do damage based on their level.
And of course the Cash Shop, EVERYTHING is from the CS. From Potions to any and all Customising options, you can even buy and Sell Characters in the CS.

Oh by the way, the Westernized name of Allods is 'Rage of Mages' ... which rings a bell.
Maybe you are thinking of Runes of Magic which is what I read the first time I saw Rage of Mages?
On that notes I want to try Allods but I can't search right now, is it english localized?
Nope, Rage of Mages was a fairly decent RPG, wildly popular in Russia, apparently. It's going to be localized in Europe by gPotato. Release planned for ~sept this year.
I have really liked what I have played in Huxley. It has production values through the roof. Don't want to go into too many details as there is an NDA I think, but I'm really enjoying it, when it actually runs.

Huh, pretty surprising, considering it's a Korean MMO. I also find it funny that it's being provided by ijji. Hope they iron out stuff and get it into open beta.

also I'll make a thread later if no one else will!
Server just not up yet? Too heavy of a load? Some kind of issue with the client?
Edit: Well thats what I heard on the forums.
I want to play it
That's what I saw too.

There is a lot of strange shit going on in that game. I'll totally give it shot if it comes to us.

I have seen that as a character name, and I have seen someone post on a few different forums with that as their user name.

This looks fantastic. The bottom of the main page has me in stitches. Orc is going to get fucked up by those badass cat warriors.
