So many Stargate mods coming out, can't people make their own ideas, theres like 3 HL2 ones, a C and C Generals one, an Unreal 3 one and now a Crysis one.

I must say the models look great and the design looks good so far, but got damn if people can't make something themselves. I'm aware its to make people interested, but thats how every new IP works, you make interest.

New shit is hard to make up, and generally requires teams of dedicated concept artists, writers, plotters, modellers, animators....people working in collaboration to create originality out of essentially nothing.

I know I can write lots of creative shit but how much of it is really creative and how much is a mishmash of things I've seen or heard elsewhere? Ask me to draw anything I've written, and I would give you a look of fear such as you would only see on the face of a prehistoric caveman facing down a sabertooth with his bare fists.

Originality is really hard to do.

There are some excellent design teams out there like with Iron Grip :The Oppression, Minerva, Smod Tactical, Neo:Tokyo and a hand full of others. I could just never work on something that already exists - Ie DragonBall Mods, Stargate Mods and such, but there are so many out there.

The demo is so good, I can run everything on "Very" High with the DirectX 10 hack for Windows XP. Woo.

I had so much fun playing that demo, so much of it. I want to play the full game now and if I do end up getting disappointed . . . I'll always have Physis and plenty of mods.

    Damn.

What's up with AA? I just built a new PC and I'm not sure what it is capable really as far as AA is concerned. I've been playing at 1280x1024 with everything on High and I can only go up to 4x AA. I haven't toyed around with it too much, I'm sure I could go to a bigger resolution but I'm fine with 1280.

Yep. Iremember when they worked on the UT2K4 edition they left a few bits on their page then disappeared for a while then came back with a full blown Beta.

    http://www.neotokyohq.com/

They had a hand full of gorgeous models and designs for the source version including the new camo effect and then went off radar.

So, inevitable 3rd person bullet time mod anyone?

    http://www.crymod.com/filebase.php?fileid=1444

All they need to do is implement some sort of cover system and we can call it Gears of Crysis.

Havent had a lot of time to troll around other forums, but did any one else have an issue with the sound studdering and game freezing from time to time.

It didnt happen all the time for me, Really noticed it toward the end on the boat. I have the game all patched up.

You'd also need the main protagonist to be in a state of constant agony and loss with a constipated grimace on his face.

@ Duck MaN: Can't say I experience that, although I think I've heard of it happening to other people before. Are you using on-board sound or is it a dedicated soundcard? If the latter, are your soundcard drivers fully updated? I saw this solution over in one of the forums, don't know whether it'll help you:
an update... I fixed both my sound stuttering and mouse/keyboard lag in one fell swoop:

In the control panel under sound, there was two separate icons, one for "Speakers" and one for "SPDIF Interface". I disabled the "SPDIF Interface" (which i am not using), restarted crysis, and everything works perfectly! Was the first time ive ever run into problems like this, so it was definitely a little weird.

I've also heard updating your graphics drivers might solve the problem, and possibly disabling EAX if it's enabled. Yet ANOTHER solution I've heard is to set Crysis' task priority to "low" or "very low" (goodness knows how that'll affect gameplay). Anyway, instructions for that method if you want to try (copy pasted from another forum):

    1. Start crysis
    2. Press alt+tab to go to windows
    3. Press ctrl+del to bring up windows task manager
    4. Choose 'Processes' tab
    5. Right click on Crysis.exe and choose 'Set priority' and 'BelowNormal' or 'Low'
    6. Go back to Crysis game by alt+tab

I must have beaten the demo 3-4 different ways before I got hold of the game. It really sold me on how differently you can tackle any situations.

I will check the spdif when I get back to my room. Its the AW MX9750, On board sound. AW said they update everything before they sent it out. I will have to wait a wile to double check and see if that ment drivers for my internet is down in my room for now.

Starting to get the feeling I should have waited in buying the laptop.. Thus is my life.

This game is the game that makes me love gaming again.

Now the question is. . .should I over clock my system? At the moment I have all settings turned to medium and a few of them like textures and physics on very high. I haven't used any of the tweaking guides. Is it worth it?

So I hate to ask, but have any of you had any crashing problems recently?

I played it intensively on the weekend, but now when I boot it freezes while loading, before anything comes up. It can be killed by task manager, but it wont run.

for main hardware i have a 3870x2 and a q6600 processor on vista 64bit. Before today it was beautiful, but now it wont run.
Tried updating drivers, but nothing is newer then what I have.

Honestly the games looks better on medium than most games do on high or very high. You can always tweak it to look better, but it won't be a huge deal. Either way the game is gorgeous.

How much do those mods bog down a system? I can play with everything on a mixture of medium and high without absolutely no problems. Some things very high if i'm willing to get a bit of lag in huge scenes.

The Natural Mod and other similar mods (none of which are as good as the Natural Mod, I think) don't impact performance negatively much, if at all. In some cases, they can even improve performance. The only problem you might have is that they force some settings to what is essentially high and won't let you turn them down.

do you happen to know which settings? What they change is in the systems.cfg file in your crysis directory. There seems to be a few things they did for increased performance and a few things they did to make it worse.

It's like two people made it, fighting over what should be in it. Increased Performance! Maximum Pretty!

It's possible to increase the scale of character models in the sandbox editor. Probably possible to create a giant Nomad and then just go to town on people.

What I love is that 5 years ago the screenshots of Mechwarrior, Stargate and Lost World would have been considered concept art, and these days the engine makes it possible to put together these really lush environments and then you put the models in and everything looks right.

Even now I'm guessing at maybe 2 out of every 3 major mods failing to come to fruition, but there's a lot of good stuff that people are working on, so I don't really mind all that much.

Yeah I was doing that, and then a particularly large one fell on top of me as I was prone and camo'ed... yeah I died.

I also had a cool moment when I was trying to recon all the bad guys and I was laying down camo right in front of a buggy. Well two Koreans thought that time would be a good idea to hop in their rad dune buggies and peel off.... Yeah... I died again.. It was so awesome though.

Or theres the time when I shot a rocket launcher at a guard tower that was sniping me blowing it up. As I moved past it I started getting sniped from an unknown direction. Turns out the guard survived but was half trapped under a shitton of debris trying to snipe me.
