[Suggest on!] 360 Black Friday and games

edited November 2007 in Games and Technology
So Best Buy has 360 "pro" + guitar hero 2 w/ guitar for 350$ (this might be with the pack in 2 games too, weill see) on black friday. I am finally taking the plunge for the system.... (probably will get rock band)

What games are "must haves" for the system? I plan on owning the following:
Ace combat 6
Dead rising
Mass Effect
PGR4 people are saying is good.
(on the borrow list) Assassin's Creed, Halo3
(depending on what I see in it) Eternal sonata

I have absoulutely no interest in halo 3. Never that big into console FPS, but games like vegas and gears of war are enough difference that they are amazing (mostly for the coop, yes halo has coop, but it was just too bland for me). I do plan on picking it up once its bargin bin or if I can just borrow it from a friend.

Speaking of Vegas and Gears of war, I have these for PC and have no interest in picking up on console, same with orange box/bioshock/oblivion.

No interest in sports games (NBA/Madden). I enjoy arcade style racing(aka not grand turismo)

What else are must haves for the system? Ever since I got disapointed with the first 6 months of wii I decided I need at least 5-6 games that are must have before picking up a console.....

If the thread gets enough interest ill change this into a general "Whats to buy for the 360" thread for the holidays....

Im asking what 360 games are good. Not what black friday deals are good. I reference the black friday deal above because its backstory and im finally convinced to pick one up. Changed the thread title.

I agree, I already own all 3 GH's(PS2), the only reason I jump on this deal is because the guitar can be used in rock band

Halo 3 is free if you do a few things. Call of Duty 4 is a must-buy, IMHO. Ace Combat 6 has a really, really cheesy story and all, but the visuals are incredible. Mass Effect is also a must-buy unless you have an aversion to sci-fi RPGs.

PGR4 is very good and would be my number one choice as far as racers go.

As long as you're getting Guitar Hero, why not pick up Rock Band as well? Hell, you can even get the stand-alone game and play it with the guitar if you're not interested in the drums (the headset will work as a microphone for the vocal parts).

I am planning on picking up rock band tomarrow at kmart (I think the 20% off coupon works). If it dosent Im still undecided to pick it up right away, or wait until I know ill be around friends to play it.

    Conan for Hack n Slash,
Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War for tactical war games (the actual units aren't "omg looks real", but you get hundreds of them onscreen with no slowdown)
    Mass Effect for RPG goodness
and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga for some nice platforming and general achievement goodness.

Conan is a good rental, but I liked the mindless nudity to be honest. The sheer audacity and goodness of a mindless hack n slash game was good for me, most will say it's a rental. I stand by the other recommends though.

Forgot to mention, also look at demos of games on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Two of the games I mentioned, Conan and Bladestorm have demos up now you can check out yourself when you get your console.

I liked Lost Planet. Mindless arcade shooter of goodness. Online is pretty fun as well. Can probably get it for $9.99-19.99 range, which is always nice.

lost planet might be tempting, I never saw the draw of it while people were OMG'ing over it.....

Not sure about something like bladestorm, although I am a freak for tactic's games (partial reason im gonna go ahead and pick this up is the 2 atlus games coming, I cant wait)

Don't forget XBLA. At the very least, Pac-Man: Championship Edition deserves to be on every 360 owner's hard drive. Heavy Weapon, Geometry Wars, Space Giraffe, Bomberman Live, and the two Mutant Storms also come highly recommended. And if you don't have one of the other versions of them already, definitely pick up Castlevania: SotN & Puzzle Quest.

I'd lime this whole post so hard, but it would look nasty. Those games are awesome and I heart them.

Well here's my take on it.

First off some cheapy games that won't break the bank but are still good:

    Kameo
    Call of Duty 2
    Crackdown
    Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
    Condemned
    Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Tomb Raider: Legend (hey I thought it was good)
    Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
    Viva Pinata

All of those games can be had for 20 bucks or less. They're all really good games so bear in mind that you're in the unique position where you're just now getting a 360 so you could theoretically get by without having the latest, greatest, and most expensive games to be had on the market.

Now a few more games listed regardless of price:

    Assassin's Creed
    Beautiful Katamari
    Call of Duty 4
    Saints Row
Mass Effect (when it comes out)
KoToR, KoToR 2, Fable, Jade Empire from the BC stuff
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night from the arcade...maybe Puzzle Quest?

I would recommend Crackdown, but try the demo first because it's not to everyone's liking. Me, though, I love it to bits.

DiRT: rally racing, kind of sim-ish (at least compared to Sega Rally) but it makes careening down bumpy backwoods roads ridiculously fun; somehow it makes going 60 MPH feel perilous and exciting.

skate.: can be hair-pullingly frustrating, but if you get enough practice in it gets ridiculously fun, especially with the replay editor.
