Wii Problems

Ok, to start off, my wii is still under warranty, and Nintendo is currently shipping me a UPS label to send my wii in for repair. However, before I take the plunge, I wanted to get any and all advice I could.

I got my wii December 26 of last year. It worked like a charm, and I loved it. Alas, due to school and work, my play time became less and less, and eventually my wii sat unhooked on my tv stand. One day, my dad comes in and asks if I will hook it up in his room. Being the good son I am, I oblige. I hook everything up correctly, turn the wii on and...nothing. The console powered on, but there was no picture and no sound. I checked my connections, tried other tvs, and still, nothing.

Another problem seems to be with the wiimote. The wiimote can power the console on, but after that, nothing. It isn't synced with the console, and after trying to sync it multiple times, I gave up. It is interesting that it will power the console on, but is unable to power it off.

So I come to you H/A. Is there anything I might have overlooked, everything I could try differently, to try and get my wii working again? The thing that bothers me most is it didnt sustain any physical damage. It literally just sat in the same place unhooked for some time before I tried to hook it up again.

I would take it to a friend who has a Wii. Determine that their Wii is working properly, and then unhook it and hook your up using the same cords and setup, power it on. If it doesn't work, then it is for sure an issue with your Wii hardware. Send it in for repair.

If it DOES work, then your setup is incorrect or the cords are damaged. Set up your Wii at your house as best you can, take your pal's cords, and use them at your house. If it works with your friend's cord, then your setup is correct, and your cords are damaged. Get a new cord. This is assuming you are setting it up correctly on the tv's you've tested with your cord.

Other questions: Any sound coming out when you hit the A button a couple of times on startup? If your setup is correct, the video may not work or be damaged but the sound could still work. If you're getting neither, I would be suspicious that the setup might be incorrect. I know from experience that hooking up to TV's with a lot of components can be a pain in the ass, so be sure to try a direct connection to the TV's in question so that you don't have to negotiate a DVD player, DirecTV etc.

It looks like the Wiimote itself isn't a problem, in fact it looks like it IS synced, however since your console then messes up the remote no longer controls it. This is represented by the fact that your wiimote powers it on, but then can't do any more.

This is further supported by the fact that your console is not outputting any picture or sound. I'm assuming it is all hooked up correctly, as I'm assuming you aren't that dumb so it looks like the console itself is having issues. Is it possible that it might have been knocked around at some point during its idle time? You've tried it with other TVs already so there's no point getting into that.

It does sound like its broke, so your best bet is to just send it in. My Wii sits around mostly unused for weeks at a time until I get the urge to play it, but I haven't really heard about any issues like this. The only thing I can really suspect is that somehow it got knocked over or something and nobody told you.

I wont say it is impossible it got knocked around, however I dont really see how. No siblings at home, if my dad wanted to play it he would just ask me to hook it up. It sat in a stable position with no problems. I hope nothing like that happened though, as Im not sure if the warranty is still in effect then. I bought new cables today for 15 bucks. I figured it is a small investment if it means keeping my wii here. No luck. I would really prefer I'm just being retarded and somehow have it hooked up wrong, but lets face it: it really isnt that hard to hook a wii up. Anyways, guess Im out of luck. My UPS shipping label should get here any day now.
