I don't know if I can handle buying a whole other edition of the game in order to fix the horrible checkpoints.

    It's 20 bucks.

    Suck it up.

It's a goddamn fantastic and cheesy action game.

You get to kill people with an guitar that shoots electric bats.

Go spend 20 bucks or 10 Euros or whatever and pick up the SE edition.

Finally beat Agni and Rudra. I can't believe that the strategy required was seriously "mash attack"

The difficulty settings were messed up in the US version of the game; not sure if it's the same in the UK version. If it's the same, the breakdown is as follows:

    Japanese Insane = US Hard
    Japanese Hard = US Normal
    Japanese Normal = US Easy

So put it on Easy and don't feel bad about it. The difficulty was re-set to the Japanese standards in the Special Edition.

Yes this is correct. The game was changed by to the japanese settings in the special edition.

I'm almost positive that the game was built with the "gold orb" mode in mind (infinite continues) and taking that option away turned off many players to this game and scored the game lower than it would've with it. One example is I think level 7, if you just ran thru the level and skipped unnecessary battles, it would take you 15 minutes to game from the start and to the end.

I have yet to play any of the DMC games, but I did pick up DMC3 Greatest Hits when I picked up AC. I plan on playing it pretty soon... I wanted to get DMC1 .. but I heard 3 is a prequel, so I guess it won't hurt to play DMC3 first.

    Play DMC1 first.

DMC3's combat model is so great and the controls so NOT-outdated that you'll never bring yourself to really go through 1 if you play it first. You'd be missing out on a really wonderful game.

DMC3, for me, is better than Ninja Gaiden. That should say enough.

'Dated' games don't bother me. If DMC1 isn't as polished as DMC3 that won't stop me from playing it. I might say "aw that sucks I can't do X or Y" but no big deal. As for story, my friend said that I could play 3, then 1 and I would be ok. 2 sucks I know, but I still wanna play it.

Yeah you don't wanna play 2.

At all. If you've played the other ones it's utterly terrible. I think it's the only game I've ever taken back to the store.

How is DMC2 that bad? Is it the story that is bad? If its gameplay, how did they not improve apon the first one. If DMC2 was so bad, I wonder why they made a DMC3 (and I'm glade to hear its not bad like the 2nd)

    Oh man it's the gameplay.

Okay so the first one I only played like two hours of. It was fun, and full of personality.

Cue Devil May Cry 2, with stoic Dante that didn't do anything, repetitive enemies, shitty weapons that were all exactly the same, etc. etc.

But hey it formed the basis for the style button.

Well damn, all I saw at the store was DMC 2 Greatest Hits and DMC 3 Greatest Hits... wheres my DMC 1 Greatest hits.. bah. Well since I'm still in the middle of AC, I'll poke around for DMC1 before I start on DMC3.... I think I'll still play DMC2, so that way I can enjoy DMC3 that much more.

    No, no no no.

Putting your hand through a meat grinder, then dropping your funbits through the same meat grinder, then going swimming in gasoline and having a cigarette and then walking up and hitting a big daddy with a wrench while playing ghosts n goblins is more fun than DMC2.

    Trust me on this one.

The original DMC3 released in Japan had the "good" continue method, but I guess they wanted to make things more difficult for the US/UK release.

And Special Edition didn't really "fix" it, so much as offer both methods.

Very Hard on Special Edition is also equal to JAP DMD mode, if I'm not mistaken.

The only thing that bugged me about SE was that normal DMC3 saves weren't fully carried over.

What do you mean I have to go through Dante Must Die mode again, once as each brother? D:

Vanilla DMC3 is still a tenner? Shit I thought it would've went to the bargain bin, what with the SE edition releasing at £20 and quickly dropping to £15, last I checked the game at Gamestation (which was about 4 months ago).

I know I'm a bit late on this, but I thought I'd share advice on the Agni & Rudra fight. If your attacks "clash" (i.e. you both attack at the same time) both attacks are repelled. If you do this three times in a row, the brother you're clashing with loses his weapon momentarily. Then you kick ass.

I've seen the advice to kill both brothers at the same time, but I honestly had an easier time killing the super-brother than two at once.

I'd also like to add my vote to "buy the special edition; normal isn't worth the hassle".

It's disapointing that I can't play DMC1 anymore. It's a great game but it has a different control scheme than DMC3, and there's no way to make the button layout the same. I always end up pressing the wrong buttons whenever I try to play the original game.

I didn't play DMC 3 until after I played Ninja Gaiden, which, I think, limits my enjoyment of the game. Whenever I play it I always feel like "man, that worked a lot better in NG" and the like. I've tried playing through it on multiple occasions, but I just can't get into it at all. The restarting at the beginning of the level really doesn't help, either. It's an artificial way of increasing difficulty, and generally an extremely poor design decision. It's not that the game is super hard, either. After all, I love Ninja Gaiden.

I know all you guys recommend the special edition, but I feel like I've spent enough time trying to like the game than should really be necessary.

Ninja Gaiden is almost impossible until you learn the enemies attack pattern, then it becomes easy. But it's so rewarding because GODDAMN it's fucking hard and OH MY GOD 4 BLACK SPIDER NINJAS OH GOD HOW AM I GOING TO DIE NOOO NOOO YESSSSS I WON TAKE THAT YOU GODDAMN CUNTFUCKERS.

DMC3 is a hell of alot more free form. You have a myriad of options to beat almost every enemy in the game, however, the goal is to do it in the most badass fucking way possible. The initial reward isn't as apparent as in Ninja gaiden, but when you get there, it's a "HOLY SHIT WHAT DID I JUST DO" experiance.

I played DMC1, then NG, then DMC3. I feel like I have more control over Ryu, but Dante's moves are just more fun. When NG includes a demon guitar, I'll know who wins this battle.

I actually liked DMC 3 more then ninja gaiden . Sure it was frustratingly hard in some parts but it was doable it also had some of the cooler bosses in recent history .Just wait till you fight the fallen angels , you will cry tears of blood and acid.
Besides the fallen one of the hardest levels was when they decided to pull a megaman and have you fight all of the bosses again , Beowulf was hard the first time damnit!
