Wait till you get to the chessboard.
You will not enjoy the chessboard.
It is an hour or more of pain.
edit: Actually I have a semi neat story about the first boss, the scythe guy that turns into a regular enemy later on.
My gf watched me load up and play the game the first time, and get killed by the boss again and again as this was my first really hard action game.
I proceeded to play the crap out of it, then after I'd beaten it on normal, then hard and was working through dante must die, I suggested I play through the game for her so she could see the story as she wasn't willing to touch it because of its difficulty but really liked Dante.
I put it on easy to make it a clean run through and destroyed that boss without getting touched once, and without really thinking about it.
I look over and she is like: :O
Me: "What's the matter?"
Her: "You killed him so easily! He killed you so many times and now you kill him without getting hit once! That's amazing!"
DMC3....get's you even more in with the ladies than you were previously.*

Morninglord on
(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
The chessboard (on hard) was a bitch until I realised you only have to take out the king
Well, just imagine the king being devil triggered with a hundred times the health and the queen doing three quarters of a fully upgraded life bar every hit.
The rooks spawn more rooks before you can even begin to scratch their life.
It is beyond ridiculous, I'm not sure I've forgiven them for the stupidity of it. I really enjoyed fighting DMD Vergil and wanted to be able to play his final fight but I don't have the patience to sit through that chessboard and then be able to start the rest of the level.

My last run through I took out all the pawns, spent a full half hour killing the queen and another half hour whittling down another rook. Then I look around and there is four rooks on the board because the other one had been spawning them on me.
I turned it off and haven't played it again.
One day I'll pick up the special edition, but until then it sits there, trying to taunt me with its cheapness in the hope I'll get mad enough to consider it a difficulty to be overcome instead of a stupidity to be ignored.

I really don't know if I can be arsed.
