Ok, so I've got a five hour drive and an 80's jones. What's some good new wave 80s tunes to entertain me?

This isn't all New Wave, but here's my favorite 80s albums.

    Sonic Youth -- Daydream Nation
    Pixies -- Doolittle, Surfer Rosa
Minutemen -- Double Nickels on the Dime
The Replacements -- Let it Be
Eric B & Rakim -- Paid in Full
The Jesus and Mary Chain -- Psychocandy
Talking Heads -- Remain in Light
    Husker Du -- Zen Arcade
    Michael Jackson -- Thriller
    Prince -- 1999
De La Soul -- 3 Feet High and Rising

Oh my god, that's a lot of really, really good music.

The Smiths are another obvious choice, but I'm not personally a big fan.

There's a lot of other really good stuff out there that I haven't listened to, like Mission of Burma, Gang of Four, Fugazi, Bad Brains, and so on.

Man, there was a lot of great music in the 80s.

    Def Leppard.

It's not an 80's music fest without Def Leppard. 2thumbs.gif

    Vice City, huh?

You don't mean Miami Vice, perchance?

Probably not; GTA Vice City had a remarkably thorough and period-accurate soundtrack.

Good call on the vice city. Lame that only Discs 4 and 7 are on iTunes.

Thanks everyone, should make the trip a little more fun.

Journey, of course. Raised on Radio is a very good album as are Escape and Departure.

You can throw in some Boston, a little Foreigner, one or two Styx songs, and top it off with some Def Leppard and the Cult.

Then, to move into the pop area, you got your Thompson Twins, Billy Ocean, Asia, and Dire Straits. You get super bonus points if you time Walk of Life to coincide exactly with you pulling into the driveway of wherever you're going (and I take it a house for Thanksgiving).

Add some James Taylor to the mix with Chicago, ELO, and Duran Duran, to kind of let you enjoy the ride, and add a few one/two-hit wonders with Rockwell, Stacey Q, and Rick Springfield and Yaz.
