The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Its December, 1996. I've been playing Civilization II non-stop for months. Finally I give it a rest and try this new game Diablo. You should pick it up, its pretty good -- at least until my sister picks up the phone and kicks me off the World Wide Web.
I bet my system is better than yours:
Windows 95
Cyrix 6x86 (P200+) processor w/ 75 MHz bus
32MB RAM
Matrox Mystique graphics card with 8 MiB SGRAM (no VGA pass-through: yay!)
2 (!!!) 2 GB hard drives
Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16
4X Samsung CD-ROM drive
I'm still hoping to get an N64 for Christmas, though.

Playstation games. And also, MUDs from AOL (Modus Operandi and Gemstone III before they broke off from being AOL games and became play.com games or whatever they are now).
It's 1996, and dude, you gotta check out this game called TeamFortress: it's like Quake, but in teams and stuff. . . it's hard to explain, just give it a shot. And check out the awesome graphics you can get with hundreds of polygons per character! Seriously, dude, it's better than that Duke Nukem game you're. . . are those titties? Dude, did you just give that stripper money to show you her titties? Okay, fuck Quake, I'm. . . ummm. . . hang on, dude, let me take this home with me. . . chill, it's no big deal, I'll let you borrow Master of Orion 2.

Damn, 1996, let's see.
Dad just got us a Pentium powered beast, and I was going through every point and click adventure I could get my hands on. I've just blown through the first 5 Leisure Suit Larry's (including the talkie version of 6, yes my dad let me play Larry since the time I was 10), and am currently getting bogged down in King's Quest 6 and Monkey Island 2: Lechuck's Revenge.
Full Throttle may have also been in the CD drive at some point that year.

I was also 9. Going on 10 though. :-X
Holy shit does that bring back memories. I started this name in that game with a rogue/picker who had literally no combat skills at all.

I was busy playing Killer Instinct, Mario Kart, Doom and Cannon Fodder on my SNES. My friend has bought one of those brand new Playstation thingies which played the awesome Destruction Derby and Toshinden.
It would be nearly 12 months until I was able to pick one up in time for Destruction Derby 2, Wipeout 2097 and this amazing, shit your pants scary game called Resident Evil.
In December 1996 my only systems were a Game Gear and Mega Drive. Game Gear I was probably playing a Sonic game, since that was just about all I had for it, most likely Sonic Chaos. On the Mega Drive I was probably playing Theme Park, or maybe Desert Strike. I couldn't really afford new games.
I wanted a Sega Saturn for Xmas, but my parents were having none of it. I think I ended up getting a Scalectrix instead. With hindsight I wish I'd asked for a SNES, but I was a complete Sega fanboy in those days, and wouldn't get a Nintendo console for another two and a half years, when I got a Game Boy.

And this might be the year that I rented Super Mario RPG not knowing what to expect, and ending up keeping it two weeks past the due date.
