I'm going with the "I don't remember what I had for dinner yesterday" line.
But I probably was playing Duke Nukem 3D, Diablo, Doom, lots of Genesis/Mega-Drive games and Mario 64, if it was already out at the time.
I laugh, but only cause me and a couple buddies played a ton of that. I cant even remember it really, just some guy was minotaur and the other guy was running the fuck away.
Yeah, I have no idea what the plot was. Just some random dude alternately running away from or shooting at a big minotaur guy. And the minotaur could kill the guy in one hit or something ridiculous.
And Crusader: No Remorse definitely got a lot of love from me, but I didn't pick it up until the summer of 97 when it was in the bargain bin.
Hunter/Hunted 2player was the shit. And there was a level editor and everything...
As far as plot goes, it eventually got tied into the Earthsiege/Starsiege/Tribes/etc storyline.
1996:
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
Daggerfall
Master of Magic
Command and Conquer
Looking, back, it was 1998 that appeared to have been the best year for video games ever: Starcraft, Baldur's Gate, Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment... I don't think I got anything done that year.
By these days, do you mean thread time or, modern? I think you would be hard pressed to find someone on the boards who still uses AOL, I could be wrong...
Man, it's trying to remember what I was playing back then. I can't remember what Jane's Simulations games were out but I was definitely also playing those to death.
I think I remember picking up Jane's F22 Raptor back then? I remember playing a ton of Chuck Yeager's Flight Simulator when I was a kid.
This stands as one of my personal top ten games of all time.
Morninglord on
(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
tekken 2 arcade, killer instict arcade, toshinden playstation, ridge racer playstation, any good playstation 1 games or good arcade games really. Actually, I was still playing a shit ton of SNES rpg's like Chrono Trigger over and over again, too.

Yeah, I think it's mostly the elderly who use AOL these days.
In '96 I was stuck on some damn invisible beams in Dangerous Dave. Also played a battleship game, some other one that I hardly remember that involved grabbing pop cans and throwing fireballs at aliens.

Toobin?
EDIT: Probably not... I dont remember throwing fireballs at aliens... but I do remember chucking empty coke cans at Mexican bandits and avoiding sharp sticks while floating down the Rio Grande... god I want to play this game again now.
MistaCreepy on

Yeah, I think it's mostly the elderly who use AOL these days.
eeehhhh I know a LOT of people on AoL, because the only other option is wireless broadband (which is like 250.00 set up and 60.00 a month for 2 years min.) and AoL is only 15.00 a month. I also know a lot that can't get wireless broadband too.
Aol won't die in the ISP business for a long time because companies like comcast and verizon won't get off their lazy asses and bring good internet to anyone living 1/2 a mile outside of a city.

My friend's dad still uses AOL. They've had it for maybe 12-15 years now? It's ridiculous.
Anyway, I get on his computer to add my friends laptop to the wireless network (I had done the security for his dad while he was at college and it was a little complicated. lol) and it was slow as dirt. I couldn't figure out why because last time I was there (a few months earlier) it was running fine.
I pull up the Processes and stats and I see that there are no less than 5 (FIVE!) processes doing things for AOL. There's AOL security, AOL highspeed (using 99% processor!), AOL loader, AOL who knows, and AOL i wish it wasn't there. He tells me he just installed it from one of those free CDs to access his mail.....
I immediately uninstalled every piece of AOL from that computer. Then things sped up.
Between this and the Roguelike thread I'm fighting the urge to grab a copy of NetHack and relive part of my youth. It's especially hard because I'm back home this week visiting my family and staying in my old bedroom where I spent untold hours playing all these games. *shake fist*
Heh, I saw that in a Flea Market a few months ago.
Was gonna grab it, but when there's a copy of Earthbound right next to it, I suddenly forgot about Quest.
Darn I wish I grabbed Quest, it looked fun...
I just upgraded my packard-bell with a graphics card and sound card. I got an Orchid Kelvin 64 and a Soundblaster AWE32. The tech support phone people tried to claim that I couldn't upgrade the graphics but I read the manual and all I had to do was remove a jumper. The guy at my local independent computer shop said I could take it back if it didn't work. He intimidates me but he is always really helpful.
I also bought a USRobotics Speedster 56kb. One of the guys in my computing class says I'll never be able to buy anything new again with all the phone bills but I just played Descent against A COMPLETE STRANGER and man this has to be the future. I just wish I had some kind of alternative to compuserve and aol. My friend might be right about the phonebill, it was offpeak but I still played for 3 hours. I hope my mum doesn't find out.
I'm still pretty pissed about the Rise of The Triads demo though, it needs 8mb to run and I only have 4. I think computer games makers should be trying to get more to run on less. Otherwise we'll all just have to upgrade forever.
This guy at school wants to buy my Amiga 1200, we both know Amiga is going down but he is an Amiga buff so I think I'll do that and buy more memory.
I completed the Tie-Fighter expansion pack a few nights ago, but nobody believed me so I printed out a screenshot of the end sequence. It's not my fault they all suck. I left transport tycoon deluxe running overnight so now I have a shit load of cash but all my trains are breaking down. I need to stop cheating in Simcity 2000 though, it keeps starting fire storms in the top corner of the map when I do it.
I finally showed my friend Master of Magic as well, he is totally into Civ II but for some reason didn't want to play it. Then again he had never heard of Starwars until I showed him X-Wing. No I don't know what is up with that either.

Lots and lots of both, on Mplayer *ugh*

I really BECAME Ser Lev Arris.
Syndicate Wars ("CATACLYSM!!!") too, oh and Tie Fighter to the point of RSI setting in.
This stands as one of my personal top ten games of all time.
Yeah, I think it's mostly the elderly who use AOL these days.
If I remember correctly, I was playing mainly:
Nights
Mario 64
Pokemon blue(Yes, in japanese, at 8)
Diablo
3ds friend code: 2981-6032-4118
Toobin?

I will NEVER use AOL ever again.
Visiting up until then was not fun.
Games that were on the computer and getting a lot of use:
Master of Orion
Betrayal at Krondor
Tie Fighter
Descent I
I was uh.... 9? My mother didn't like Lara Croft.
That's ok, I think the rest of us liked her enough to make up for your mom. Pixelated goodness
Mario
Pilotwings
Wave Race
Crusin USA 64!
the list goes on.

On the upside maintenance is way cheaper for fiber because it just doesn't break that often.
As one of those kids who got a Playstation 2 early I was playing Crash Bandicoot and Tekken 2.
Then it all came for naught when someone handed me a copy of The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall.
Interesting side note: I played Super Mario RPG, Resident Evil, and Quake for the first times in the later half of the year.
Suburban Ninja on the long lonely road of ninjitsu.
Pokemon Diamond - 5412 6392 0193

It wasn't.
Earthbound was the way to go.
I grew up on those games they where so awesome.
That was a great fucking year for me.
