Does anyone know when Gran Turismo for the PSOne was announced?
I remember seeing some screenshots of the Japanese version in a PSX magazine and drooling uncontrollably then waiting another 12 months for the dang game to get released in the UK.
Also, how comes everyone in the US seems to be able to find Earthbound SNES so easily, I wish I could find the game in the UK, over here it's like £59.99 for a copy in Gamestation boxed and that's on the insanely rare chance you find it (Hell they even sell Zelda: LttP for 29.99 boxed).
Hmm...1996. I'd be playing Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Kountry II, Doom, Warcraft II, Shattered Lands, The Genie's Curse, and probably some US Navy Fighters. I know I didn't get Diablo untill '97.
I still have my "Deathware" CD that included full versions of Quake, DOOM, DOOM 2, Heretic, Hexen, and Wolf 3D...all on one disc.
Whoa, I'm not the only one who made one of those.
I remember the demo version of Quake that shipped to stores with the full versions of all those games on it, and you could call with a credit card and unlock them directly. I also remember QCrack coming out, and all those games suddenly only costing you the $10 that the store charged.
I remember downloading QTest the original one room one treasure chest tech demo that came out before the shareware. It took DAYS to download but you could type a cheat to turn the chest into a knight!
I could NEVER get anyone into Quake. We were all about Duke though for some reason.
Looking back I think it was the "oh I am sooooo clever" feeling you got with a hologram and some tripwires in that game.

Duke was also a lot more fun to play alone, whereas Quake was multi-player only fun.
A very memorable time, just completed my first year of college and had a job lined up for the summer. I was pretty excited it was new business venture in Valdez alaska, and my best friend from high school was going to be working with us.
Figured it would be a great summer.
I got there a week or two before my friend, Dave, i picked up a SNES from a pawn shop with some games. I think i had killer instinct (loved the arcade), and super metriod - don't remember the others. I played both quite a bit solo. At one point borrowed Super Mario Kart (whiched i loved) for some kid down the street.
Well Dave got to Valdez and things were good for a week...then things went bad.
1. The business venture was bombing, and losing money.
2. Valdez has 2000 people with the biggests "cities" being anchorage and fairbanks 8-10 hours away.
3. there is nothing to do in valdez after the first week.
4. No mater how good of friends you are with some one, if you work, live and hang out togather all the time(we were roommates) you hate each other. Period.
...and this is where Mario Kart and teh Snes come in...
everyday, it became a battle, a very personal battle to win the first circuit on 50cc. We would play for hours same 4 tracks, over and over and over. It got to the point where it wasn't about winning, just trying to make the other guy lose.
Last track of the mushroom circuit, there is a speed jump to the finish- giving up first place to wait to for your 'friend' just to shoot him with a shell.....that will cause him to spin out and miss the jump, and come in dead last.
God, i still love that game.
btw we both would use bowser and DK. they were the fastest.

Also, Indycar Racing by Papyrus, and NASCAR Racing 2 wound up making appearances as well after I picked up a Thrustmaster steering wheel.
I'm playing so much Sega Channel right now. The Raven gives me the best tips and hints but I hate it when I lose my Shining Force II games.

Oh how I loved thee.
It was so good to have a Mac.
