Question about Refurbished Phones

As of today I am able to upgrade my phone so I have been doing a bit of research and have boiled the choices down to the Blackberry Pearl and Curve 8300. Since I am poor I was considering the refurbished models but the warranties were a bit fuzzy.

Pearl: 90 day warranty for refurb
Curve 8300: 1 year warranty on all Curves (but since its a refurb I would think it would be 90 days as well)

Can anybody clarify this for me?
Also, are refurbished phones a safe bet? I have had some bad luck in the past with crappy phones and wanted to make sure I wasn't getting myself into a bad situation. I tried calling a couple ATT stores but they don't deal with refurbished phones or warranties at all.

Thanks for the help

Not as safe as new - see warranty info.

Your call if the savings are worth the possible hassle of a dead phone without warrenty.

I work as a Wireless consultant for one of the top 5, and honestly I'd say this is a pretty bad idea. Especially since these phones are normal "unlocked", which is a load of crock since I've only been able to successfully activate only one of my customers unlocked phones so far. If the refurb phone was originally intended for your service provider, that shouldn't be an issue. If it's a sprint refurb (I've seen tons of these popping up ever since they've agreed to unlock their ESN/Hex at the end of this month) then you should be fine also.

Is it worth it? I'd say no unless you have a friend at your service provider who's willing to assurion insurance to your account. The rules for adding insurance to our phone lines that bring a Coam phone in with them is a little iffy. But if you can get insurance added to the line, at least the worst thing you'll have to worry about is a 100 dollar deductible somewhere down the road.

    Either way, Good luck man
