They have been developing it since prior to the release of R6V. Ever notice the "to be continued" at the end of the campaign? A sequel was already in the works.

Oh... That explains that... Still haven't finished the first one.
As a long-time Rainbow Six / Ghost Recon PC player I have a huge laundry list of things I fucking hate that they did to GRAW and Vegas on the PC (not the least of which are all the bugs and instability problems). And yet both games were a hell of a lot of fun. I for one welcome our evil Clancian overlords.
Why would it be Vegas 2? Isn't Rainbow 6 needed all over the world?
You know...that's a good point.
Unless the first one ended in some sort of cliffhanger (didn't finish the campaign), I assume the locale would change? Kinda hope so because I actually wasn't thrilled with the Vegas and/or Mexico scenery. Actually I really really hope it doesn't take place in Mexico. Or the Middle East.
My main problem is that the missions of Team Rainbow and The Ghosts have become virtually indistinguishable.
Ghost Recon is supposed to be about urban combat in protracted military scenarios, Team Rainbow is all about quick in and out insertions operating in a primarily HRT role.

On top of that, it's odd that Team Rainbow is operating Stateside... It being an international organization, and all. Just thought of that.

Rainbow is international in composition, but the whole idea was they could respond to any nation in the world (provided they were invited by the government)

The US federal government hasn't been that cooperative with organizations like this, though... Like the World Court. Seeing how you have to retrieve sensitive information, like DoD files, you would think local teams like the FBI or SWAT would be brought in.
I really should try reading the book, was it any good?
My buds and I still play Vegas every weekend along with Gears of War and CoD 4. It's a fantastic game and I think Vegas 2 will dominate our playing time as soon as it is out.

I loved the book, Tom Clancy isn't the best writer but I am really into the technical side of things and military infrastructure (keep in mind it is still fiction though)
Ok for those of us who actually played R6:Vegas to the end this is great news (it did end in a cliff hanger). I really hope they keep the same style as before, it felt very much like playing the show 24, except your two buddies don't get killed off everytime there is a fire fight.

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Haven't read any Tom Clancy books, but that's what I hear.
Gotta love the first game's intro... If "cutting off the head of the viper before it has a chance to strike" is their mandate, then I guess they screwed up big time with Vegas.
Do not want. I know we'll never see the old school Rainbow (which did gun modification right along with balance) back but I hope they focus on making an overall better game that the original was based on. Graphically, I feel UE3 games look like shit on every title including Epic titles. I really do wish Ubisoft would hire artist that know how to model guns and make proper textures. That MP5 looks horrid in that screen and why do I see a visible laser sight in a modern warfare game? Stop the Hollywood bullshit Ubisoft, you're transforming into EA with every game.
Well I wonder if the title is just lip service so that we know that it continues the story? Maybe R6:Vegas but you are in casinos in other places? I dunno I really enjoyed the first games story and the character you played.

If you're looking for deep characters or romance, those concepts are pretty much lost on Clancy, but Jack Ryan and Ding are still awesome, and Clancy really nails the technical side of things. Rainbow Six is a great book, especially the sniper scene at the theme park.
Planning the fights was definitely my favorite part of the old Rainbow Six games, half the time I would make the plan and just watch the teams play out their parts, success or not. That kind of control over your team was amazing.
should I get this (r6:vegas, not #2) for 360 or pc? I just got a 360, played the demo and loved it.
PC version was pretty unoptimised, with no widescreen support. There is a hack out there for it, and if you have an 8800 it's allright. Personally I thought the singleplayer campaign was pretty shitty, but it's fun coop.

sorry, I used to love this game but Call of Duty 4 has it beat
You...shut...your...filthy...mouth! j/k...I love cod4 too. But I am a total R6V whore. Terrorist hunt co-op FTW!!
Man why are you comparing it to COD4?
This is a tactical shooter, not a run and gun

Oh... That explains that... Still haven't finished the first one.
Not to mention Vegas was released before GRAW 2, and does everything much better.
Vegas co-op is the funnest console co-op I can think of, this is going to rock faces.
Hahaha Rainbow Six Vegas...a tactical shooter? Its tactical in the sense that uh...you can hide I guess.
Hiding is tactical.
I am just bitter over what has happened to the Ghost Recon and R6 franchises

I know how you feel...
But that doesn't make Vegas any less fun (for co-op anyhow).
An old-school Rainbow 6 game, or something like it, would be great.
I understand, but there's still some hope that R6 can become what it once was. They got about half way there with R6V.

at least its not Lockdown 2

I am sick to death of killing vanilla terrorists though
I miss the old R6 where we were basically infiltrating disney world and killing greenpeace activists
don't forget Neo-Nazis
