hu wuh!? Admittedly, I haven't been following the series since the patchless, buggy MP experience that was RavenShield, but isn't the planning (and later mentioned weapon customizations) what made R6 R6? What the hell have they done to what was one of my favorite franchises? Do not want, indeed.
But the aliens should be the shit half of an otherwise awesome game in which you can take any path you want across an island in order to complete your objectives.

And instead of shooting terrorists you have to shoot cybernetic frogs and dragonflys. Also to make the game fun you should be able to take 5 bullets every 10 seconds and clear a room of 10 frog/dragonflys in 30 seconds.

However, the Cybernetic Frogs and Dragonflys should be the only enemies in the game, and they should simply add variety by introducing different coloured versions of those enemies which are slightly stronger than the previously coloured enemy. Also, they should introduce bland level design and a really fucking hard part where you have to follow a tiny flying robot who doesn't take into account the fact that you can't fit into the same spaces as he can.

Halo?
I am all for R6 to go way back to it's original roots.
Comparing R6:V to COD4 is like comparing penises and vaginas. Totally different, but fun in their own way.
Trying to stay away from the PC vs Console flamewar this is going to turn into, I have to say that I can't wait for this game. R6:V was the game that held me over until Halo 3 came out, and I played a TON of it. I like COD4, but I really think it needs a cover system... so this has my pants in an uproar.
Hahaha Rainbow Six Vegas...a tactical shooter? Its tactical in the sense that uh...you can hide I guess.
Hiding is tactical.
I am just bitter over what has happened to the Ghost Recon and R6 franchises
I know how you feel...
But that doesn't make Vegas any less fun (for co-op anyhow).
An old-school Rainbow 6 game, or something like it, would be great.
Personally, I hope 2K...Boston? picks the SWAT franchise up if they still have it. That's pretty well our last hope.
EDIT: That said, I still enjoyed Vegas. I hope that, somewhere down the line, they make a proper Rainbow Six 4 and call Vegas an offshoot.

I remember playing Rainbow 6 on the Nintendo 64. Each of the levels involved 15 minutes of planning routes then another 15 minutes of replaying adjusting routes because they wouldn't obey their goddam hold points. And 5 minutes of fun. That's what it should be. 30+ small maps all about the planning.
How exactly was it dumbed down? Rainbow Six Vegas is leagues better than the original Rainbow Six games.
They changed the gameplay mechanics from what was once a game about tactics to a Micheal Bay summer action tie-in. There was no health packs, regenerative health, cover system. It was you and your squad who weren't the best A.I but did what they were told and did it good enough for you to do your job. The game was a whole lot more tense which is something that is missing in majority of FPS today by putting you in close quarters levels I really do think that game had immersion down with the briefing, the squad mates mechanic(members can actual die and had stats), pick your type of ammunition and level of kevlar protection. I remember when I use to time myself to see how fast I could clear the bank on Elite with suppressed weapons.
Times changed, no one wants to play a slow paced methodical FPS anymore. Everyone wants to be the next Halo or Call of Duty instead of making a new pedigree of FPS gaming and also people gotta' pay the bills. The console is more profitable, you can see that with PC devs jumping ship. So I'm not surprised if Ubisoft told Red Storm "Hey, we want to make our game more accessible to more people. So lets put this game on the consoles and I'm sure the original community will love it." This isn't a PC vs Console debate. Rainbow Six on the Playstation was fucking awesome and that what made me play the PC version. Last game to have the feel of the old school Rainbow Six was SWAT 4 and that was awesome. I can't see any game like old school Rainbow Six come to the consoles since the more profitable games are action-twitch shooters and if thats the demand, someone must supply.
Having an intricate plan with mutliple go codes and contigency operations was the greatest thing ever. If they could have the great shooting of the current games combined with the tactics of the originals and ramp the damage back up to realistic "OH FUCK A GUY AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS WITH AN UZI WIPED OUT TEAM ALPHA!" levels it would be so awesome.
The thing I really hated with vegas was the absurd number of badguys. There's a robbery, being done by several hundred guys apparently. It felt ridiculous. I'd much prefer they had a realistic level of guys that are all potentially deadly, so you have to use tactics again, rather than just blunder through guns blazing and diving into cover to regenerate health. Bring it back to what it's meant to be, something like what SWAT4 did.
This series is a shell of what it once was, but you're an idiot if you say it isn't tactical at all, especially in comparison to CoD4. That game is pretty much Halo in the middle east, let's be honest here.
Anyway, that said, I'm excited for this game. Even though it isn't as intricate as the previous games, I still find it to be a whole lot of fun.

Most of the people involved in the attack were meant to distract Rainbow and everyone else from thier main goal, the dam.
Though its a bit strange that a game called called Rainbow 6: Vegas has its final showdown on a fucking dam outside the city.
.
And on the topic of planning in Rainbow 6 games, i think they should have kept the Ravenshield idea. Sure have the planing stage but you don't really need it. I never made a proper plan when i played Ravenshield. Just a series of waypoints to make sure i cleared every room. If i felt fancy, i'd put a go code on a door leading to a big room or something.
But the option to create really well thought out plan with multiple entry points, go codes, door breachs and stuff should still be there.
And get rid of this regenerating health crap. I'm not the fucking Masterchief.
I have fond memories of developing deep strategies and complex maneuvers in the original Rainbow Six. And then having the AI fuck up like dozens and dozens of times and finally just putting riot gear and shotguns with as many flash-bangs as possible on everyone.
It would be nifty to have more tactical shooters, though. If only because I like planning the mission myself.
Edit: Health regen is its own dang thing. On the one hand, it keeps the player from dying too often to silly things and prevents players from switching playstyle from "fun" to "oh god oh god 1 bar of health" 50 seconds out of the gate. On the other hand, seriously health regen? What, am I Wolverine?
I suppose the best way to do it is to just have the game star nobody. Switch between characters as they die to keep you in the action until you've well and truly fucked up, but keep everyone's health at 2-3 bullet levels.
Hardcore has no reticle, hud or healthbar. There's no map unless you call in a UVA, and you only get one grenade(Fragx3 aside). Not to mention you die quickly, sometimes even when you have cover. The sniping system includes sway and breath holding. It may not be R6 but it's nothing like halo. Now normal mode is another story.

Team SWAT has no shield armor, power ups, or grenades. You do not have a motion sensor to tell you where anyone is. Not to mention you die quickly, sometimes even when you have cover. A single headshot will take you out. The sniping system has a noticeable delay between shots now, preventing you to mindlessly shoot forward and get a kill. It may not be R6, but it's nothing like Hal... oh wait.
My point is, with the control scheme provided and fairly simple gameplay mechanics, it's pretty impossible to make it any more tactical than an R6, even though it's been simplified numerous times.
Can we not start a huge Vegas vs Original R6 games argument.
Only one of them sold millions of copies.
the other was a niche title that never gained any kind of critical or commercial recognition.
As much as I liked the tactical aspects of the old games, I really prefer the turn it has taken. You must be a silly person if you think you will find many people who will want to spend 15-20 minutes in the lobby planning out their mission. Then 10 or so minutes playing the actual game.
Hell, AI hasn't really advanced all that much over the years. Old R6 games were clunky as fuck.
I had no idea a halo game type like that existed. After a youtube search I can see the similarities. Though having the reticle that changes on an enemy is a substantial difference.

You have the advantage of using the iron sights on every gun in CoD4. It evens things out.
Can we keep the hate on R6:Vegas to a minimal there are those of us who actually liked the game and want to know about the sequel and not how others are pissed that the really boring parts were taken out and the franchise has taken on a more visceral feel. We get it you hated Vegas. Fantastic make your own thread.
So is this going to be a sequel that takes place immeadiately after the first game? Or will there be some delay time?

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
So if I'm new to these games, where should I start? Rainbow 6 games or Ghost Recon? If you feel like describing what differs between the R6 and Ghost titles I'd be grateful as well.

It had better pick up where the first left off. Because to be honest it didn't seem like much of ending to me. More like we ran out of time so we will just put to be continued at the end. I love the game though I will pick this up day 1.

They made it not boring.
Yeah it may start something but of all the PC vs Console shit this one is the truest of them all.
when you say original are you talking about the PC versions or the console ports

Have you played on a Hardcore server?
I'll agree that SP has some far out stuff, but it's no Halo.
CoD4 Hardcore has made me want to take another look at "tactical" FPS's.
It's might as well be the Team SWAT Halo gametype.

And here is there first news letter to see what they're all about.
Someone should really do a tactical gaming thread and have a summery/update on all upcoming games of the genre. I nominate Basticle
