I just don't get why anybody would want the wii zapper in the first place. Not for me I guess. This game would be easier to play without the goofy piece of plastic that puts the two controllers in awkward positions.

Nobody is making me buy it though, so it is just more options for those who DO want it. For those of you who DO like it, what do you think are the benefits are for using the zapper vs not using the zapper? I am just curious.

Does this post have a point? Nope, it does not look like it does...

    Carry on!

The only reason people should buy the Wii Zapper is for Crossbow Training. It's pretty decent, and definitely worth the 20 bucks. The Zapper is just something useless that comes with it. The game is actually easier without it, and I can't think of any redeeming qualities the shell has.

That sums it up nicely. It actually restricts movement! It completely contradicts the concepts the Wii introduces !

    Frikkin lunacy.

myself and 3 of my friends experience is that the zappers are totally awsome.
most of our experience is based on 2-player / 4-player Ghost Squad

Maybe it's my long Irish arms. I just don't like it.

Don't use "zapper mode" in ghost squad. Use "chuck mode" which will make the trigger the Z button. All is great on this configuration. Nobody has complained or asked for a different config since we discovered this

Also, you don't have to restrict your movement, as has been said many times. You can use the zapper and have the chuck separate!

My Wii sure has been getting some play time recently and outside of the zapper I still haven't bought anything recent (SMG for example). The zapper while not a classic light gun seems to work pretty well after about an hour with it and Crossbow training. I wouldn't of considered Ghost Squad, Medal of Honor, or Umbrella until the other day when I picked up the Zapper and a $10 copy of Red Steel (black friday ftw). Light gun style games and shooters are FUN on the Wii. Yes Crossbow Training is short and yes Red Steel is really ugly in the graphics dept. but they are both a blast to play. Now to get some cash together for some more Wiishootan games.

This does bring up another console though.. I wonder how Time Crisis turned out on the PS3?

    Iiiinteresting...

I've been getting a pretty good ratio of headshots with the Zapper config, but I'll give that chuck config a shot if it means holding the Zapper "right". Thanks! ;-)

I enjoy it well enough. I like the idea of taking the wii remote and molding it for a given game, solely because it's possible. several times last night while playing LCT I thought "this might be easier without this plastic..." but it just manages to be part of the fun for me. I wouldn't have expected it, but I definitely enjoyed myself. currently going for all platinum which I'm sure won't take long, and then just playing for high score. Enjoying the simplicity far more than expected as well.

Yeah, I don't mean to bash the Zapper, as it does add to the fun. I know I could increase my scores without it, but I don't want to take it off.

I hate to bump this thread but I do want to see more reactions, and also have a specific question.

I platinum'd 1-6 very easily, and don't anticipate much of a problem with 8 or 9, but the second bit of 7 is giving me a lot of trouble. some sort of dragonsoldier guys that I don't recognize, I just can't seem to get solid hits on them. it's frustrating.

I wish they had made customizable controls, so I could have Z for fire and C for zoom (are there any other actions?). That way I could play with one hand. And feel badass.

If I was feeling really wild I'd hold my Zapper sideways.

I played this for a couple hours today. Link's Crossbow is surprisingly fun and has 4 player multi (havent tried).

However the Zapper (IMO) is terrible imo. I got way higher scores playing in star trek phazor mode. Personally I'm just less accurate using the zapper and the game is all about accuracy.

    Just got this yesterday.

First impression of the Zapper: Unintuitive. At first you want to hold it like a submachine gun, with your right hand in back and left hand in front. But then you aren't pulling the trigger with your right hand. So you switch. Then it feels unnatural.

    HOWEVER.

After playing Link's CB Training for about 45 minutes, you start to get the hang of it.

After doing a few missions and getting a feel for it, I started getting nothing but Gold medals on my first try on these levels, except 7 and 8.

After beating every level, I felt pretty comfortable with the Zapper. So I went back and tried getting Platinum on every mission.

Having finally done that, I have greatly increased my skill at bot this game, shooting and hitting targets rapidly, and using the Zapper.

At this point, I'm a lot better WITH the zapper than I am without. Why? Primarily because being able to hold a verticle handle with my right hand while keeping the wiimote horizontal at the screen AND having a second hand to steady my aim really helps pinpoint shots. It took several hours of 'training' with Link's CB, but I am now comfortable saying that I am more accurate with the thing for 'lightgun shooting' than with just the Wii Remote.

that said, my highest score for a single section of a level is ~123,000, the total for that level being ~330,000. I think it's level 3 but I can't remember. the 123,000 is from, I think, 3:1 or 3:2.

Oh I forgot to mention -- Adjusting the crosshair and sensitivity made a HUGE difference in my speed and accuracy in this game. I tweaked the hell out of it so much that I've got it down to nearly 1:1 with the aim. I'll be getting Ghost Squad for Xmas, which supports direct 1:1 aiming of course, so I'm excited to try that out.

No, you just don't express anything constructive. This is a thread discussing a game. If you have played the game, then please elaborate on its faults. Otherwise, you have no business here.

You're either a very good troll, or a simpleton who can't comprehend that people enjoy things that you don't understand. Either way, I don't think you're in the right place.

    So, anyways...

Is any part of this package worth it for someone with admittedly more interest in RE: UC?

I'd say yes. The Defender and Ranger portions were very fun and got intense.

I said it earlier but if the game had a story and utilized those two modes more it would have easily been worth fifty.

I feel like Link's CBT is to the Wii what Duck Hunt was to the NES.

I like it, but.. I got to all of the platinum medals really quickly..

.. now i'm just setting arbitrary high scores for myself to meet. like.. getting over 100,000 on every 3-part level. (my highest single level is 129,000 for a total of 350,000; i think it was level 3:1 or 3:2 and the total was for level 3)

    It's fun.

That video said that there are branching paths.. I haven't seen any and I usually shoot tons of shit in the levels besides the targets/enemies. Anyone find a branching path?

So, my highest score for 1 section of a single 3-part level is 165,980.

Anyone score higher than that on 1-part of a 3-part level? It's a pretty good score, I think.

Try doing that without a zapper/gunshell!

Ebay maybe.. I have no idea. As far as I can tell, there's only the game+zapper. Unless you want a third party shell. The Nyko one is pretty cool. There's also one shown on pg 2 of this thread I think.

But why would you not want the game? It's a pretty decent light gun shooter. It'd be nice if there was a 'career score' so to speak, (unless there is one and I just havent bothered to look for it).

Link's CB is pretty good. I may or may not have bought the zapper without it. Unless the zapper was like 5 bucks on its own.

Well, still, the suggestions stand. You could try to get one on ebay without the game, or you could attempt to buy the zapper and ebay off the game. Or you could get a third party one which tend to cost less than $20 by themselves, although I think they're $10-$15 and may depend on shipping/handling.
