Why are people talking about Excite Truck like that?
The game is a ton of fun to play, yes, even in multiplayer. I suppose you can fault it for not having online multi if you want, but it was a launch game, a proof-of-concept. If it were released today you can be sure it'd have online multi.
Hell, in the latest Nintendo Power they've just announced that the new Wii Mario Kart is going to have 12 player online.
I'm angry right now because of the Ghostbusters junk on the Wii. I know the wii is better than X-box hardware, but no game seems to even reach that graphical level. In Ghostbusters, they aren't even going to try.
You know what? We may see the opposite of what we usually do in this particular situation.
The 360/PS3 developer is Terminal Reality, who has released such classic turds as:
* The Blair Witch Experience
* Blair Witch, Volume I: Rustin Parr
* Blair Witch, Volume II: The Legend of Coffin Rock
* Blair Witch, Volume III: The Elly Kedward Tale
* CART Precision Racing
* Fly!
* Fly! 2K
* Fly! II
* Maximum Racing
* Re-Mission
* RoadKill
* SpyHunter: Nowhere to Run
* Terminal Velocity
Whereas Red Fly is a rather unknown factor, except that they seem like a good ambitious studio. They are making Mushroom Men, after all.
I finally bought my Wii in late september because we had a good enough financing offer, and I wanted a TV, so I threw the Wii in with the package.
To date I only have 5 games (Three of which I got because of the B2G1 free sale this week) but it's definitely my favorite console to date.
In fact, this reminds me...I really need to pay more attention to my DS before I get too far behind on games for it.
Why do people use the jackets for the remote? Don't they block battery access and feel odd when there's a raised surface next to the remote's plastic? They look stupid too, in my opinion. I mean, all year it was - "Ugh, look at those jackets they're selling! Awful! Why would anyone want them?" Then... "Nintendo's giving away these awesome remote jackets! Hell yeah!"
?
I actually find them to be more comfortable than the remote alone.
Also, you take it off to access the batteries. Oh noes that's so difficult.
I've had a load of good times with Zelda, Warioware, Strikers, Trauma Center, Metroid, and Galaxy. It can just be uneven- there are periods where nothing comes out and I lose interest. I also miss shooters, and am late to the party for Gears, Assassin's Creed, CoD4, etc. and there's still that "traditional" void. I am still anticipating GTA4, Haze and Mercenaries 2.
That all being said, Galaxy is the game that made me absolutely certain the Wii was a good purchase. Now I just worry it'll be the best game the system sees.
I really don't understand people who complain about time between releases of good games and mention November's glut of games in the same breath. Are you an automaton who has to buy games the second they come out? I'm going to be buying this winter's game throughout the next year; no game drought for me.
I love my Wii, despite the fact that I haven't used it as much as I like. I've been a PC gamer since I was weened, and the Wii is my first venture into the console realm. It doesn't surprise me that I'm distracted by every major release on the PC. The only games I have for my Wii are Wiisports, Madden '08, and a handful of VC NES games. I borrowed LoZ: TP since I knew I would only play it once.
I hope to rectify my lack of Wii games this holiday season with some Galaxy and maybe LEGO Star Wars.
Is LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga any good on the Wii? I played through the first LEGO SW game and loved it.

I'm the same way. The Wii is the first console I've owned since I had a NES when I was 6. I've dug Zack and Wiki quite a bit, The Bigs, Strikers, MP3, and of course Mario Galaxy.
And yes, Lego Star Wars is a surprising amount of fun. If you've already played through one, you've beaten half the game. The Wii version doesn't really bring anything to the party, but that doesn't mean that it's not totally awesome.

I got my Wii on launch and have been happy with it ever since. It may just be because I beat games slowly, but I've always had something to play on it. Then there's the VC, where I don't just rebuy game I already own (with 2 exceptions, but they're good reasons I assure you) and instead grab classics that I never had a chance to play.
After this holiday season especially I can't see how anyone could not find something they would enjoy the Wii. And hey, even if they don't that's not gonna stop me from enjoying my system/
The wii has literally changed my life. Not dramatically, but it has given a huge hobby shared between my fiance and I. Since purchasing it on day one, I have converted her from someone who absolutely loaths video games to someone who is willing to drop an hour or two a night on Excite Truck or Resident Evil: Umbrella with me.
I really enjoy the games that have come out, and have never felt that I didn't have a game to actively have fun on it since it came out. One player games that have occupied my time from the begining:
Zelda
Paper Mario
Resident Evil 4
Metroid Prime 3
Mario Galaxy
And then throw in the hours of playing by myself or with my fiance/friends with:
Excite Truck
Wii Sports
Wii Play
Mario Party
Mario Strikers
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
Maybe this system isn't for everyone else, but I KNOW that this system was the absolute best system for me.

I'm really torn on the control schemes they have going on.
On one hand, you have games where the motion controls really help make the game: Trauma Center, Metroid prime 3, Need for speed: carbon.
Then on the other, you have games like wing island taking up space on store shelves.
Somewhere in the middle lies Twilight Princess. I like using the remote to aim the bow, but swinging the remote to swing the sword just feels retarded. After a couple minutes I just started doing jump attacks to avoid having to swing the remote like a spaz.

Do people actually swing the controller? All I ever did was twitch my wrist slightly and that worked.

Yeah, I just flick my wrist. However, I'm with SirUltimos on liking the wiimote use in Zelda par waggling to swing the sword. I would rather have just pressed a button.
I don't understand why they didn't use basic gestures. Swing left/right to do basic swing, swing down to do his jump attack, and push forward to stab.
While I type this my wife is playing laser hockey on Wii Play.
Let me back up:
My wife had an NES when she was younger. Her family had an N64 during that era, but she wasn't playing it much. Her all-time favorite game is The Legend of Zelda (the first one) and she hasn't liked one since.
During our relationship and now marriage, she has played The Legend of Zelda about 5 times and just recently beat the second quest (she would start it often but then not play for a while and forget where she was so she would start over).
The only other game I've seen her play often is the original Super Mario Bros on the GBA.
I got a Wii on launch day. It was my Christmas gift to me from her. She played tennis day in and day out. She was unbeatable.
I got Wii Play when it first came out simply for the extra controller. We played it a bit that week, then put it down and haven't picked it up for a long time. Wii Sports was much more fun in general.
My wife is now playing through Wii Play determined to gold medal EVERY game. She is a machine, calculating every move to net the best score and that gold medal.
TL;DR: My wife is awesome and loves the Wii.
(oh, and I think she got me GH3 for Christmas - a game she said and I quote, "looks stupid")
I bought my Wii in January (in a 6 game bundle) and have no regrets. The only game I got that I was disappointed with was Ultimate Alliance, but that was just because of their crappy controls, and I'm going to get the 360 bundle version anyway.
And I stand by what I said when they first announced the name change - the name Wii is pure GENIUS.
the only difference i can feel between my old wiimotes and my new ones is that the casing around the bottom of the new ones feels less smooth and slightly more grippable. However, this may only be due to the old one having been smoothed out over use.
on a completely different matter, Matt and Bozon from IGN both gave hint to an upcoming treasure title for the wii that'll be announced next year that they claim as ranking a 10/10 on the anticipation meter. Could this be Sin and Punishment 2?
to be fair, they seemed to also imply that they have no idea what said title is. for all we know, it's a new puzzle/casual game.

a treasure game that will be that anticipated, no matter the genre or series, should be awesome. can't wait to hear more than basically a rumor of an announcement .
I imported my Wii a year ago, since I didn't want to have to sit through the waiting I did on my PS2 and GC for titles taking forever and a day with whatever the hell process it is that takes 2-12 months converting it for use in PAL territories when it still only has English as the only available language to play in.
I don't regret it for a second.
Originally, I only had Wii Sports, Twilight Princess and Excite Truck and Elebits to play. Though I still haven't beaten TP, I'll get around to it eventually. For a while I didn't really play it too much, some RE:4 when it came out, Mario Strikers, the Metroid Prime 3.
Then all the sudden this massive flood of games has come out for it and pretty much blotted out the time I would spend playing other games. First it was BWii. I cleared it, bar some of the multiplayer missions. Then Fire Emblem hit. I got two dozen chapters into that before Mario Galaxy got here yesterday, which has to be one of my favorite games in a long long time. I had this huge grin plastered across my face while I jumped from one side of a little planet to another.
So yeah, loving the Wii. I'll be playing it for a good long while till a decent iteration of the 360 or PS3 comes down to $250 US, then cash in. But then, I need a TV to make buying one of those worthwhile too....so it could be some time yet.
Also, I want to see the Lucas Arts point and clicks on VC at some point. Z&W has whetted my hunger but I require more.
As far as the name goes I still love it. Its kind of quirkey and rolls off the tounge really easily. It does make it sound like a kids toy but I do know of several adults who may not otherwise touch a videogame become interested in it. It really markets well to casuals and new players and since that was one of Nintendos goals from the onset Id consider it a success in that regard.
As far as games though I havent really touched it since spring or summer. I really enjoyed Super Paper Mario and give that game tons of love, but some of the others like Zelda or Elebits have been a forgettable experience for me (which makes me hesitant to contuine supporting some franchises as I dont really know if they are up my alley anymore.)
I have regretted the purchase at times but now I can see some games on the horizion that will be must owns again (Brawl and No More Heroes right of the top of my head while I remain cautiously optamistic about things like Project O) it will defenitly prove itself.
I think most regreattable is the freaking dongle which I havent gotten to work in some time, so I may be buying a wireless router of some sort in order to take advantage of things like the virtual console again.
I want the Sam and Max compilation on Wii and then a disc full of Lucas Arts classics. I would gladly pay obscene amounts of money and it'd make console sales go even further through the roof.
The Wii has housed a number of my favourite games this year: Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Zack and Wiki

Well, the main character was just announced to be an Assist Trophy is Smash Bros., so that points ever so slightly to it being S&P2.
I didn't really go into the Wii's first year with huge expectations, so I'm fairly comfortable with the use I've got out of it; i.e. to play Gamecube games I've no reason to stop playing in between bigger Wii proper releases. A slow-ish first year isn't much to worry about. The DS had a shitty first year. It improved.
And I love the Virtual Console, since I finally have a chance to catch up on a lot of what I missed when I was younger. Thanks to the VC, if nothing had come out for the Wii, I'm not sure how down I'd be about it.

To be honest, I never really understood the love affair with Wii's VC. I like the idea. I like the things its structure could bring about, such as WiiWare. I'm just not sure I agree with the whole pricing scheme as much.
I mean, we're paying $10 god damn dollars for an N64 game? Am I the only one who feels that this is too much? These games are selling 0 copies now anyway, and it's digital delivery. Come on!
In Canada, not only do we pay extra for tax on our points (14% in Ontario), but retailers are jacking up the price of a points card by 25%. We're paying $24.99, when the Canadian dollar is worth more than the American.
In the end, I often find that the games I remember so fondly aren't half as fun to play as they were when I was 12.
1) Warioware was too easy. Fun as hell, but too easy. Beat it in a weekend, and never played it again. Still need to get Mario Party.
2) Metroid is awesome. I don't play it enough, but the UI is awesome.
3) Wii Sports is still played more in my house than any other game.
4) VC is fun for a bit, but then you realize how easy and/or ridiculously difficult certain games used to be. Kind of like when they came out with Double Dragon for the GBA.

See, that doesn't sound like too much to me at all. A new, modern game, costs 50 dollars.
For that cost, I can have five games that are a maximum of 10 years old.
Now, my sense of time and graphical standards are both warped and distorted beyond belief, but that sounds like a pretty decent deal to me. Plus, for most of the good stuff, I'd pay that much at a used game store that still had them anyways. Fuck, I paid close to 20 dollars for my Megaman X cart, and if it ends up on the VC, it'll be about 8.
I bought my Wii very recently after recognizing that I'm no longer the kind of gamer who can own every major system and buy 20+ games a year. Having a career and a soon-to-be wife and, you know, responsibilities just take up too much time. All I want are my core Nintendo franchises - my Metroids and Zeldas and Marios - and Virtual console (VC really clinched it for me). Oh, and a few party games like brawl that my fiance will play with me. The console has a huge library of shovelware that I'll mostly ignore, but I knew that going in.

So I'm pretty happy.
Exactly. I enjoy buying games, but I've come to the realization that I just don't have the time anymore to sit and play for hours. I'm actually considering selling my PSP simply because I don't have the time to play games for it. My initial idea was to have a DS & PSP and that be it for my gaming systems, but the opportunity for a Wii arose so I took it.
