I'm getting a 360 for christmas from my other half. We have a big lcd HDTV in the bedroom, which is obviously my prime candidate for play, so i've bought an hdmi lead for that. However obviously my other half uses that tv for watching tv and dvd's so I can't really hog it every night for halo 3 sessions or whatever, so I'm considering using a 22inch lcd pc monitor i have spare to compensate for those times. My desk is right next to where the tv is... so i was wondering...
can I have both the HDMI and VGA cables plugged into the xbox at the same time and just choose which one to output to? It would be so much easier if i could have it all just plugged in and choose a different setting on the xbox or whatever rather than moving the console constantly. I know the vga cable uses that big video port, and the hdmi has a specific port on the back... I'm just don't know how the 360 would deal with having both hooked up at the same time.
thanks for your help in advance!
I believe in angels, not the kind with wings, no...not the kind with halos, the kind who bring you home
nope, the A/V connector blocks the HDMI port when using the normal A/V connectors. Only the special audio connector is slim enough to be connected at the same time as the HDMI.
That said you can crack the connector case off the VGA to provide enough room for both the VGA A/V connector + the HDMI cable... but I have no idea what would happen with that (as the 360 would have 2 valid Video connections I'd assume it would just pick one).
I'd assume if the monitor was turned off, or the TV HDMI wasn't active it "should" move to the active connection, but I really don't know what to expect.
Does your tv have split screen? if it's big enough, why not split off one half for the tv and the other half for halo? Me and the girl play guitar hero III and mysims split screen.

consider this solved unless someone has any vast revelations in the future!
