Last night I created a short term monopoly on beehive chips.
Mwahahaha, buy my overpriced chips japanese! BUY!
Started leaving my bazaar up all night, seems to be paying off mostly.
Get some Ninja-Warrior / White Mage on tonight?
Hopefully, it is a school day so I might knock out all my HW tonight, so I have 4 days to burn in FFXI.
I want to get my sub before next week hopefully.
Holy crap I am rich, Gonna take the time to properly equip my WHM with some appropriate equipment for my level/upcoming levels.
My WAR is 11 and is good on gear until 16 (thank god, so pricey!)
I will go ahead and start up on my WHM, Galka...must....have...mp...need...now!
I've loathed to tell you this, since I hate to discourage people on what they want to do and I don't want to discriminate against Race, but I should tell you...
The worse possible race for WHm is Galka.
you'd have an easier time (a little) at later levels, but people don,t want Galka Whms.
Add to that, the RDM is WAY more popular when it comes to healing than the WHM. Then you've got parties who can do without a WHm or RDM.
Dancer healing Ninjas, summoners....
I'm not saying DON'T be a WHm Galka, but udnerstand that when picked, you'll be the fat kid in gym class...
If you like the aspect of healing, you could do a few thigns here.
First, you can become a Galka PLD. not only do you have the war sub down for it, but a Galka is a great Tank! and well... you heal only yourself, but still.
Also, a Dancer. they heal with TP. Galkas are good for Meleeing, so a Galka Dancer will be great, I'm sure, and with 20Tp, you can heal someone for like 60-70 Hp.
you might not think you'll be the party's main healer, but actually, dancers are not only popular (many invites, same with PLD, btw) as a Dancer, you'll be able to Duo VERY effectively, like you do with Bri at the moment.
you'll not only be able to heal with your TP, but let's say you Duo with Bri's Sam or a DRK or whoever's DD job, you'll be the Tank. Dancers can do a dance that does provoke.
not pulling hate enough for the big DD with you, maybe you can go /War (this is me guessing on this point), but going /war will help you keep hate, be a better tank because of the vitality and HP.
and if I undrstand Dragoons, if they go /WHM, they can heal soemone with their dragon with as little as 6 MP, by using somethign like poisona.
So you'll get help on the healing side too. you don't do much damage, but the Dragoon will take care of that.
Another alternative would be a Dancer + Bluemage
Just don't forget some Accuracy food.

Smashism is subbing White for Red when he gets his support job unlocked, he knows the difficulties he is looking at and is unswayed. (You go, Sam!)

No Sam, I as a Mithra am merely "conservative". Galka transcend that to the level of "ruthless triage".
"The monster isn't hitting you right now, man! Throw some sand on it and get back out there!"

Woo! Notorious monster hunting is like combining the excitement of watching paint dry with the frustration of waiting overnight in line for a Wii only to find out that only one person goes home with one and it isn't you.

With the added bonus of watching that 61THF/07WAR wearing level 21 gear out-claim you and get the drop

Haha, reminds me of the time I was camping Nunyenunc. I'd been at it for a while and it was almost 2 in the morning, so I said to myself "if this next bird isn't it then fuck it, I'm going to bed and I'll try again tomorrow"
As luck would have it, the next bird was Nunyenunc and I got myself a shiny new Pilgrim's Wand
Sadly, your post also reminds me of the three times I camped Spiny Spipi, found and killed it three times, and still didn't get the damn cape
So a friend of mine is having a rather unusual problem trying to get XI to work on his new Vista comp. Apparently when PlayOnline is opened, it keeps stalling out and saying "Not Responding" in the title bar whenever he moves his mouse, types on his keyboard, or basically does anything at all. When he stops, it goes back to working, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what might be up. Unfortunately I don't use Vista myself, so I'm hoping somebody around here has gotten it to work on Vista who can help.
EDIT: Little more information, it seems he has control for just a brief moment before the mouse and keyboard stop responding in POL, then the above problem occurs. I hope that can help.

and don't forget, maybe not now, but those beastmen's seals you keep in your mog house are worth millions.
and the best way to get lots of beastmen's seals is to solo, especially from 1-15.
I have quite a bit piled up right now. If theres any advice I get alot of its: DONT THROW AWAY THOSE SEALS!
I guess alot of people made the mistake of vendoring or trashing them when they were noobs. Thanks for looking out guys.
I may or may not be on today, pretty sick today. Hopefully I can knock out sub level by the weekend.

I remember that I used to throw them away because I didn't see a use for them, and as far as I was concerned they were just taking up inventory space
I stopped doing that when I was at my friend's apartment and he scolded me when he caught me doing so
He was all "what the hell are you doing" and I was all "freeing up my inventory"
Then he told me what the seals do, and I felt pretty dumb

He has the Vista-compatable version of PlayOnline already, since the XP version won't even attempt to start.
The install is kind of in a wacky order. Are you sure he did it right?
From a clean computer you:
Install the VISTA playonline, from the website i linked.
after it is installed, EXPLORE the FFXI disc. Open the folder that says Disc 1, click setup or whatever. itll install ffxi. When done go to disc 2, open setup, install first expansion. Keep going until you are done.
Install the game this way, any other way and you will have troubles.
Also keep in mind that nvidia has specific drivers just for FFXI, 8xxxx series of Nvidia cards are having a ton of trouble.
Your friend should also provide more specifics. Such as his setup to start. 64bit or 32? Theres so many variables outside of it being vista.
He installed it in that order, yes. And the drivers should all be updated as well, though that was done by a tech and not by himself.
Having a difficult time getting an exact spec list being as neither of us know how to look up anything on Vista (I've never used it and this is his first time using it) so I have no clue if it's 64bit or 32bit, however I did manage to get a few specs from him I think.
XPS 420, Intel Core2 processorQ6600 (2.40Ghz,1066FSB)
3GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
256MB Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT
Those being what I believe are the major ones... if any other info is needed, lemme know and I'll do my best to get it.
And some clarification on the problem that I just got after typing that post, the problem is that PlayOnline works for a few seconds before checking for updates, at which point he loses mouse/keyboard control and never really gets it back. While he gets the mouse back, he's unable to click anything and the keyboard doesn't respond period, however both work normally outside of PlayOnline. Plus it continues to randomly stall with "Not Responding", usually right after he does attempt to do something in PoL. If he leaves it be, it just sits there merrily seemingly working untill he tries to do anything again.
He installed it in that order, yes. And the drivers should all be updated as well, though that was done by a tech and not by himself.
Thats your first problem. A tech cant update your drivers for you when there's a new release. Go check the drivers and make sure they are up to date.
Mobo drivers, sound, video, and if he has a fancy mouse, mouse too.
From what he told me, when he contacted Dell's tech support (yeah prebuilt I know ew, but not my comp.) prior to asking me for help, the Dell tech had been able to take control of his computer and bring the drivers up to date across the board. (Apparently the tech he talked to was actually a former XI'er too, though I wasn't there.)
What might help a little bit more, how DO you check what versions your drivers are in Vista so I can go about finding the updates for him? He's not too comp-savvy and I'm a third of the way across the country from his house, so... plus I have zero idea how anything works on Vista.
EDIT: Problem solved! Long story short he says he had a cord plugged in wrong. Aaah, I love computers. Feel free to point and laugh and I'll shoot it his way.
Watch, something else will break horribly. Calling it now.

WOOOOO 17. SO CLOSE!!!!!
Cant believe I took the WHM as my first class to 18, as a Galka none the less. But I feel like the obstacles and downfalls force me to adapt and become a better player.
Anyways, I consider myself to be a good healer so far. I had to teach a WHM my level some Cure 101.
Dont chain cast Cure II
Dont ever cast Curaga in battle (yes he did this almost killing us all)
He had half the level gear that I have, yet his mana pool was almost double (Taru grrrr), but sadly he couldn't utilize his awesome mana pool.

Wooo, I am so close I can taste it. It's pretty awesome being the black sheep.
My big manly arms help me cast better, trust me, its proven.
Also my lack of mana to start with has forced me to really conserve on every cast, because of it I know I am learning to be a better healer.

Also, wasn't there a feature planned where you could talk to your LS and Friends in realtime chat, without having to log onto PlayOnline or the game?
Blog||Tumblr|Steam|Twitter|FFXIV|Twitch|YouTube|Podcast|PSN|XBL|DarkZero
For Vista, you need to download a special PlayOnline thingabob from their website; I think Smashism already put the link out on this page
For the second, I'm not sure a real time chat feature exists without having to log on to PlayOnline.
Also, does it offer any benefits for using Vista?
