Even those elitist end game folk will need to have some sense smacked into them at times, because all they want to do is show off their "skills", you know, "d00d wtf u talking bout? we dont need no skillchains, waste of tiem, lemme jus spam mah tp and ill show you true powah!". To which you would typically respond, "Right..well you, your skills, and your HNMLS can piss off for all I care. /kick elitistraidfag".
I know it's fun and all to hate on "elitistfags" but skill chains and magic bursts aren't really worth the effort after like
level 50
Also, who were you on Phoenix? For all I know we might know each other
I love elitists! Just not the ones that can't respect damage-dealing casters. But you know what's one class I felt was really out of place in it's role as tank? Ninja. Boy, they sure did hate me. And really, doing skillchains is still worthwhile.
Aht Uhrgan screwed Black Mages over for sure though. Colibri? Bah. >_> A party wanted me to heal for them as 71-72 BLM and about an hour into the group I got fed up with them and threw out a couple -ga III spells and left.
Gahmrious: That's why FFXI is so appealing. It's difficulty and harsh conditions are amazing. You actually have to go out of your way to make money in the game much unlike WoW(The most recent patch cements that thought). Having the best gear didn't really do much for you either, because almost everyone had the same scale mail, same heki obi's, and so on. You defined yourself.
GrinninBarrett: My most recent character on Phoenix was Atlas. I'm not sure people will say positive things about me if you ask around. To my defense though, I did look AMAZING in a Weskit.
The heierarchy of an LS is the Shell (Leader, can invite people, make anyone's linkpearl/sack inactive, and drop the shell to completely break the LS), Sack (can invite people and kick anyone with only a pearl), and pearlholders (regular members without any 'powers').
I'll reserve my judgement on having an LS, I'm generally not happy with most LSes. Primarily because I've been inconceivably drawn into other people's drama just because I crack jokes at drama in general.
Yeah that's me. I don't pt. with them cuz they're high level. Since you're experienced it problably won't help since you know what you're doing. A nub like me needs guidance.

Hell, once you get started, just send me tells for help. I'm (hopefully going to be) named Demitrion on Carbuncle.
I really want to come back to this game. I left maybe 2 years ago if memory serves me, and I hear it's changed for the better. Being more solo and small-group friendly, primarily. Is it worth it? I never took a character past level 35 and feel I probably never got the whole experience.
And I can't stand WoW's community for another second.

Ah yes! I understand how you feel. Many WoW players make me want to go on a killing spree. Stupid pieces of shit. Anyways, I might be back on FFXI within the next month or so. I gotta figure out what's wrong with my brother's computer and then it'll be mine once he gets his new one as a junior high graduation gift. Basically I'm getting my old nVidia 6800 GT computer back, but it's perfect for FFXI!
I'm leaving my character online while I head out for the day, if you guys want to /befriend me, I'm Demitrion on Carbuncle.
EDIT: Well, I had some time before work to play, and whoever Maus is nearly got me killed, I went to check the forums after the friend invite arrived, and I suddenly heard a growl after a few seconds.
Goblin aggro.
Luckily an EM goblin is no match for BATTLE WHITE MAGE
Sorry about that, I just wanted to log in to check my delivery box and add you to my friend's list. I am glad you owned that goblin, whm is a pain to level with no subjob.
I'd love to come back to the game, but It takes way to much commitment that I am lacking. I'm not trying to start an MMO battle or WoW vs XI chat, but WoW is appealing for more "casual" players.
Unless things have changed in XI, where casual gameplay is possible, I'd consider coming back. I do miss the superb XI community, the WoW world is pure shit with the exception of a few good e-friends.
Meh, I'm sad, I miss XI. All of the game boxes have been crying out to me lately.

The Smithys will have you repent for that comment, good sir.

FFXI is more casual than it was, but it's still not nearly as solo friendly as WoW is right now
You'll still spend time seeking for parties, but now you can at least solo easy prey/decent challenge mobs, or form a smaller group (2-4) and plow through experience without having to wait for the 'perfect' party
Making gil is still about as challenging as it's ever been, though
I just watch vids while I pop easy mobs. I picked up a level 8 great axe today. It does Fire damage! I'm one shotting 20xp rarabs like it's nobody's business. Yeah I decided to try WAR out. It's actually much faster to level than the other classes. I've got RDM subbed. I know WHM/Mnk is best for these levels but I'm having fun with RDM so meh!
Is it possible to solo the extra subjobs? I know they unlock at 30 but at what level can I solo them? DNC/PUP/COR are supposed to be soloable at 30 so I hear.
I never liked Blue Mages to be honest with you. By that I mean I avoided inviting them to parties.
That's nice. I suppose I should be nice and ask why, but it really doesn't matter. I'm not soloing because I have to, but because I prefer to and can.
I don't dislike any jobs. I mean, I might not enjoy playing them, but I won't avoid partying with them.
Hembot - The only extra jobs you should have trouble soloing at 30 are DRG, NIN, and SAM. And you can do almost all of the DRG quest on your own. I soloed NIN on my RDM with my NPC (so that's actually kind of doable), but SAM really does require some help. PUP, COR and BLU are easily soloable, SCH is barely even a quest, so totally soloable, and DNC is also very, very easy.

I generally avoid Blue Mages because a large percentage of them are idiots and take false rumors as factual law. No offense to you, unless you happen to be one of those.
My name is Wrektem on Carbuncle. I am gonna try and get some game time in sunday. I'll be on in bits and pieces till then but not enough for any hardcore leveling.
Thanks for the info about the jobs. BLU actually sounds really fun. I just didn't want to run around collecting all those spells. It has a certain appeal but I die a lot....and I do mean a lot. So adventuring is slow for me :P

I'm not even sure what that means. What rumors?
The only problem I've ever had with a BLU is when they refuse to consider roles other than pure DD in a party. But that's just bad playing. It has nothing to do with BLU.
Hembot - Collecting spells can be a bit of a pain, but really, it's not so bad. I've got everything I need through 50 save, of all things, Sandspin, which is level 1. And I got all of them on my own, or with my NPC. There hasn't been any spell that has been overly painful to acquire. And yeah, I die from time to time, but I keep reraise up, and can usually get back that lost exp pretty quickly. I get to keep all of my drops, and I never have to stand around and wait for others to exp.

Generally two things:
1. That the physical spells reading a relation to TP reacts to TP outside of Chain Affinity.
2. That the only use for Chain Affinity is for a self-Skillchain & Magic Burst.
I've not encountered that attitude in other BLUs tho.
I have several times, it's very annoying. Another thing was all the shit they would talk about PUPs. And on that subject, SLAPSTICK~!
Murphy: It's not that I avoided them, it's just that the majority I ran into were very stubborn and idiotic. People tend to group things together when there is a recurring trend. I think that's how the "loldrk" phrase came into being, and "huntards" on World of Warcraft. In memory of both of those, I create "lolbluetard". It shall echo through the annals of FFXi forever.
Yeah, but earlier you were complaining about "eltistsfags". So there is a bit of irony (intentional I hope) in your most recent post.
I feel bad for you guys though. The BLUs I have encountered have been pretty seriously awesome. And those that weren't were bad players anyway, and I'd avoid them on any job.
Anyway, I've decided to level WAR as my next 75. I'd do that with BLU, but I don't have Sea, so I don't want to be gimp, and it can only help to have an entirely different role from RDM or WHM as another 75 option.
Yeah, but earlier you were complaining about "eltistsfags". So there is a bit of irony (intentional I hope) in your most recent post.
Was it intentional? Yes, and no, I just don't see a similarity between my distaste for shitty players playing overhyped jobs and elitist players that have grown far too comfortable in their HNMLS. You know, the "I'm in so and so LS so therefore you're wrong" attitude.

If you level WAR, you should totally use two-handed axes all the way to 75. Blood tank! Rawr.
To be fair, you can still use a GAXE with /NIN. But considering how awesome other subjobs can be, with any luck I won't be asked to sub /NIN 24/7.
Ah, who am I kidding?
/SAM is excellent and /MNK is classic. Do either of those and you are win. God, the sad thing is the only time I've been able to find a Warrior without the /NIN sub was when I was doing Promyvion-Mea. Damn, that was one excellent Warrior. :<
I have all of the various subs I might need available, so whatever the party needs is what I'll sub. Hopefully they won't all insist on /NIN, but I won't be surprised if they do.

Tell them to piss off! Seriously, if you know what they're going to say then surprise them and come as another sub. /NIN does nothing but take away hate. It's retarded that it and Ninja are still viable options for a tank.
When I start playing the single player version of FFXI I will totally do that. Until then I will take the needs of the party into consideration and gear and sub myself accordingly.

As a career WAR, you're generally not. People sub ninja on their own accord, unless you're really being dumb about the hate and damage you're taking... then you might get asked to switch subs. I've used /MNK, /THF, /NIN, /SAM, and my new hotness, /DNC (to tank)! With retaliation, it's marvelous. You're like a PLD who can also actually put out some great DPS at the cost of taking a little more damage yourself. It has the same weaknesses that main dancer has, though.

Yeah, it makes absolutely no sense that a job with the magic to completely nullify damage is a tank these days

Hee.
And Xhero, I absolutely agree. Like I said, I have all the subs available, so we'll see how it goes.

You sir are WITTY! I commend you! But seriously, completely nullify damage? At what cost? Harder time keeping hate and making sure those important squishies don't get squished? 4 shadows with Utsusemi: Ni? 3 with Utsusemi: Ichi? Sounds idiotic to me.
Yes, I think the majority of folk who play Ninja to tank are morons. Even Square-Enix has strongly hinted at it, hell, they even made it where you'd lose hate each time a shadow breaks. Didn't get it that time either, did you? I'll let you off the hook this time because you're obviously emotionally attached as it seems to be your main job.
Besides, maybe the insistence of condemning Ninja as a tank is some rebellious nature left over from puberty, "You can't control me, man! Don't tell me how to play my job!".
It's getting to the point where I can't tell if you're serious or not. Because if you're not, then you're putting on a hell of a good show. But if you are, then man.

Nin is a great Tank, man. Even /Nin
You get two War/nin in your party and you barely need a healer. but taking a Dancer to be safe dosen't hurt.
