You do realize that FFXI is not WoW, right

Certainly, WoW is a lot more fun than FFXI Online was for me. You would probably like it too if you could pull your head out of your ass. Then again, you'd probably get stabbed to death on a PvP server because of your obnoxious attitude.

Just because WoW is a better game doesn't mean FFXI didn't have it's good points. Like laughing at Ninjas(Like you) who would try to tank and just utterly fail at it because they can't get more hate than me as a BLM. Shucks, I must be an idiot because I have this delusion that a tank should be able to hold hate/threat/aggro. Silly me. Sorry guys, I'm gonna go charge people for crossing my bridge now, good luck with your game.

The flip side of the coin is that others probably have some delusion that a blm should be able to work WITH the rest of the party and not chain-nuke (thus generating way too much aggro for themselves and causing chaos for the party dynamics).

Not that it happens anymore...but if you're going to party with a nin as a blm, you should also have a thf for SATA. Also, you'd really just be there for magic bursts.

The funny thing is, GrinninBarrett is probably one of the most reasonable and level-headed posters I've seen in this thread or its previous incarnations. But hey, what do I know? I'd probably be stabbed to death on a PvP server too.

And as an aside, any BLM who grabs hate from the tank is a bad BLM. Learn to work together with others, or enjoy soloing.

Edit: I have been looking for Demitrion in game. Haven't seen you yet.

I cancelled my account for the time being, I'll probably reinstate it later this month. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do, because my friend has a character on Bahamut, and I want to play with him, but he apparently works 2nd shift as a county sheriff, so he's pretty much at work when I'm online anyway. Also I'm trying to figure out if my next paycheck is going to give me enough to transfer my old characters to Carby.

Also my hard drive space is generally looking grim.

My PC is slowly dying. FFXI (all games, actually) keeps freezing up randomly, sometimes sorting itself out in a few seconds, or occasionally rebooting my PC for me. Thanks for the free reboot, screwed up system!

I'm going to try soloing a few levels between crashes, but I guess I'm going to have to move up my 360 purchase date.

Would Ninja be a viable tank still? I'm sorry, but if a class's useful is defined by one spell, then something is wrong with it.

You do realize there is a lot of jobs in FFXI that are setup this way? RDM and Refresh, WHM and cure, hell have a PLD not sub WAR for Provoke (I know it's not a spell but a JA but still) and hate management doesn't work out quite as well. Take away any of those and those job's usefullness is quickly diminshed. Honestly, this just doesn't sound like the game for you.

So anyone want to provide some pointers on this swords event?

Assuming it has not changed since last time (aside from adding goodies):

Get the first wooden katana from the event moogle. It's All Jobs, Level 1, EXR. It hits for 1 point of damage (no buffs do not help, even crits seldom do) and has Added Effect: Light Damage. I strongly suggest using a main or sub with ReRaise. Cast it, set buffs like SS and Blink.

Out in the nearby zone (I STRONGLY recommend Ronfaure for this. Set your HP at the Outpost and use that specific zone), talk to the moogle there to get level-capped at 1. Normal mobs will not aggro you.

Go wail on one of the Samurais running around. Yes, your damage will suck and so will your accuracy -- but so will everybody else's, that's why people gang up on them. Using the monk's 2hour is s fun way to whittle one down to size quite quickly. As soon as it dies, a ??? mark will spawn, it lasts maybe a minute or so. Click it as soon as possible before spam lag keeps you from doing so. The kill doesn't count unless you click the ???, unless I'm mistaken.

Click that to get either Mochis (food) or a slightly nicer katana. Killing all four of the normal samurai Armors OR the Mithra one (it's much much faster and it doesn't hang around very long) after getting both katanas should yield either an instant "Fellow stats+" type katana or an item that will get you same, I forget which. Note that it's possible that any katana aside from the first (or maybe normal and hardwood) do not count for purposes of "number of samurais killed". You need to kill all 4 different samurai's at least once to get credit, offing one four times does not count, tho it's fun ^^

The thing is, you have to kill all four WITHOUT ZONING. For purposes of this event, dying and dropping to the HP (if it's in the same zone) and logging out do NOT count as "zoning". The latter is mainly useful if you can't RR or prefer not to use a mage job for this.

I'm sure they added one more bonus to this, the info should be out there somewhere.

Just this moment I finally managed to get my Logitech keyboard controller working on my PC. It seemed the key was to unplug my wireless rumblepad, that way FFXI Config would detect the keyboard controller with no distractions.

I took a quick peek online, to see my friend list barren, and my three linkshells also devoid of people.

I was going to shut down my account the other day, at least for a few months, but a sudden wave of nostalgia kicked in, and I got tearfully reminiscent of the good times I had with this game. I also caught wind of the upcoming lottery event, which sounds pretty darn sweet.

Basically, I want to get back into this game. I miss it. But I haven't played since November, and I haven't kept up to date with Wings of the Goddess or any of its features. I need to catch up.

But I also want to play in a server that's active. I come from Midgardsormr, which as of this writing had about 1600 people online. I want to know what the situation is like in the other servers. Can I even move to another server right now, or is that still limited to special events?

In short, for those of you who are active and happens to know a lot of people and LS's that do lots of events on a weekly basis, would you be willing to take me in once I moved to your server? This game lives on with the community, and I really would like to rebuild my friend list and experience the joy of teaming up with fun, sociable FF fans as we level up, finish missions, do anything that's fun.

You can hop servers whenever you want now, it'll just cost a fee ($25?) and yes you should go to Carbuncle where all the cool kids are at

As for WotG, here are all the features you need to know about:
    1. .
    2. .
    3. .

Nah, I'm just kidding, the expansion has Campaign, and... well, alright, it really only has Campaign
Actually dancer and scholar are really cool jobs and subjobs, /sch is great for white mages and /dnc is very good for any melee, mostly solo situations. I am in the process of leveling DNC and SCH as subs for NIN and RDM, respectively

$25 just to move servers is pretty steep, but if one of you guys could guarantee me membership to a large and active LS, then I would consider it much quicker. I'm a bit fearful of moving to a place where no one recognizes me, but it's not too different from my current situation, where many of my old buddies don't play anymore.

Someone told me Odin was the most packed server, but if most of PA plays in Carbuncle, then that would be a good enough incentive to move.

LostLegends is mostly non-PA in its membership, and mostly PST in playtime, but there are enough people to get at the very least a bit of chat-on even during slow times.

It is also joined at the hip with the Sky linkshell known as KnightSoul.

    A funny story tonight

After seeing the garbage that has been hanging off my ears since level 10 (can you believe that I never bothered to upgrade from Energy Earrings), my buddy Sarm (who happens to be a level 75 DRK) decided he was going to help me camp Mysticmaker Profblix (to get a Moldavite Earring)

We get to his spawn point and of course it's being camped by another guy (a WHM/BLM) and his level 75 friend (a NIN in this case)

About ten minutes into waiting, I learn two very important facts about Cockatrices; they aggro by sight, and they link. I died, and because Sarm is subbing THF, there's no way for him to raise me. He shoots a tell to the WHM and Tractors my dead ass over to him.

He and the ninja /laugh at Sarm and start /dance4'ing on my corpse. I'm fucking pissed, but Sarm doesn't bat an eye at it, and I'm wondering why when suddenly:

    (Sarm) (Stun)ing Mysticmaker Profblix
Sarm starts casting Stun on Mysticmaker Profblix.
    Sarm casts Stun.
    Mysticmaker Profblix resists the spell.

Sarm sent the jerkass another tell demanding a raise, which I got

A few minutes later, Mysticmaker Profblix is dead and I'm the owner of a shiny new Moldavite Earring

Enjoy waiting another two hours for a shot at the NM, cockfags! I hope you guys had fun dancing on my face because by God, I sure did

Your DRK friend is a champion, claiming a NM from under someone's nose like that is extremely satisfying

I remember spending an hour or two every day for about a month (yes, really) getting my BLM buddy an earring of his own... by the time we got his earring, we were more thankful to get out of that horrible place than him getting the drop

Then I had to camp my earring later and my luck wasn't much better
