    Bremen, since you're interested in weapons requests for our soldiers, I would ideally like a motion detector and laser/plasma pistol. I realize that the motion detectors will be up to our science types, but until then I could go laser pistol, and two of each grenade.

Let me take that thing off your hands so I can show the aliens what happens when you combine a high rate of fire with high explosives.     Ah, you've hit on the one little drawback of the autocannon. When firing high explosive shells on automatic, there usually isn't a body or even any artifacts for the scientists to study.

    If you only connect with one of the shells, then the body will usually remain. It's a small explosion like a grenade, not medium like the rocket launcher, not large like the alien grenade or high explosives, and definitely not teh HUEG like the blaster launcher.

    And we should do some stupid things made of fail for shits.

    It's remarkably easy to do stupid things and fail in Xcom. You very rarely have to try. :)

    About our first mission, well, it was a great success, wasn't it? Only one fatality, some stunningly accurate shooting, and lots of explosions. I haven't been able to play this game for years, so it feels great to see it in action again. It's one of my all-time favourites, along with Ultima Underworld, which would make for a nice LP thread, btw.

    Watching the video made me realize that when I played this game, I did so very, very cautiously. I would advance inch by inch and games could take a very long time. Seeing you charge ahead like that made me a little nervous, but it worked out fine. :)

    As for video hosts, anything except Stage6 is fine by me, because I can't get Stage6 to work here. Uploading high quality videos to Rapidshare is cool too.

    Dude, I survived, though I'm a chick, and apparently throw like one too...

    I'm also in the back of the bus, so to speak, I see a long career for me until it shuffles me forward through attrition.

    Private velmeran request a laser rifle STAT, along with a high explosive, two standard grenades (alien type when we get there), and a smoke grenade, once I have more strength, throw a stun rod in the back pack also. I'm all about laying down large amount of precise plasma in the direction of the enemies head.

    For the resurection list, I suggest we keep track of things like "highest rank achieved, number of deaths, worst way to go, etc" Maybe we can even vote for awards to be given to soldiers after missions.

    Can't remember the exact tech tree, but I think that Power Sources are probably better to research earlier than Navigation (leads to flying suits I think) so if we get one of those before Alloys is done then do that next instead.

    Just in case you get a lot done, add small launchers and stun bombs to my queue too.

    I fail to see why reducing a hostile alien to smoking ash would count as a drawback. However, if it bothers you, I could always aim at the cyberdisks, I hear those things tend to explode anyways.

    Settling in

    As soon as the skyranger settles down, the newly hired Dr. Burnage charges in and grabs the largest alien weapon recovered from the wreck. He immediately rushes it to the lab and refuses to come out, but he can be overheard muttering the word "plasma" to his project team. Meanwhile, Dr. YerMum helps Dr. Lowlylowlycook with his laser rifle project.

    The X-com troops are hailed as heroes and a party is held with much X-com funded beer. Luckily no ufos are spotted for a few days, or the valiant troops of X-Com would probably have only been able to stumble out of the skyranger, vomiting.

    VeritasVR, in between parties, manages to put together two of the new laser pistols. Construction crews also finish expanding Wang HQ with additonal living quarters and a containment unit for captured aliens.

    After a week of relative quiet, a third UFO is detected passing over on its way to Eastern Europe. While no Eastern European countries fund the X-Com project, the decision is made to shoot it down anyways. An interceptor is launched, and after a tail chase manages to catch up and bring the UFO down with avalanche missiles.

    At this moment Dr. Lowlylowlycook charges into the command center and announces a breakthrough on his Laser Rifle project. When asked how he could concentrate with the dogfight going on, he responds "what dogfight?"

    While it is a wonderful announcement, it is also a somber reminder that the production models will not be ready in time to deal with the latest UFO. Once again, valiant X-com soldiers will have to go into batle badly outgunned.

    Orders go out to launch the Skyranger at dawn.

    Decisions

    Recovered from the crashed UFO is a small alien device strongly reminescent of earth handgrenades. Scientists may now try to figure out how it works.

    Development of the laser rifle suggests that the design can be scaled up further, leading to a laser equivalent of a bazooka and perhaps eventually laser weapons for X-Com craft and tanks. Scientists may begin development of the heavy laser.

    Engineers may begin producing Laser Rifles.

    We're almost at the end of the month. Once I get next month's funding I plan on hiring 10 more scientists (That's you, piL). I'll also take votes on expansions for the base, a large radar system or another general stores (or both, if we get enough funding) might be good ideas. We're also running low on laboratory space. Alternately, I could hire more engineers.

    Positions for scientists, engineers, and soldiers are still being filled! Don't forget to sign up.

    Kerdos made Captain. Grats! If you want to try you can run a battle, but it's not mandatory.
    JamesDM fills Kerdos' old sergeant position.
    Redstormpopcorn gets cut down while about to throw a grenade. It will be a closed casket funeral.

    Last but not least, continuing to do videos for small ufos may be getting boring. Should I limit the videos to terror missions and larger ships? Either way, I'll make sure to be on the PA Vent server when I play, and anyone is invited to get on and watch/give advice.

    Haven't watched it yet, but I think by the time the team starts getting laser rifles and explosive packs I think it shouldn't be necessary for vids of small ufos.

    I don't think you need our advice on how to take care of a couple sectoids. I think we can limit the up to the minute coverage to the high profile missions without losing too much sleep.

    I have to wonder what the point of priming grenades was in the first place. When DON'T you want them to explode come next turn? Aliens could merrily walk out of range within a single turn, you don't want to just hope they walk in its range just as it goes off.
    I always spent the first turn of the game priming everyone's grenade; if you ask me, the game should have given you a minimal AP penalty for priming them to 0, and keep the current one for higher counts- that way you don't have to wander around with a grenade that'll kill your entire team upon death just so you can actually throw the damned thing AND move in the same turn.

    So in light of this thread, I obtained a copy of this game. Damn... its confusing. My second mission involved a landed UFO.....but how the hell do i get inside it? the doors were shut. I think i unloaded everyone grenades and HE rounds, as well as setting the entire world on fire with I rounds, trying to bust a hole in it. What gives?

I think i unloaded everyone grenades and HE rounds, as well as setting the entire world on fire with I rounds, trying to bust a hole in it. What gives?

    Hmm, I can't seem to get the video to work. Is anyone going to host it on dailymotion or something? When I downloaded it, I got audio, but no video. :|
